Good Luck Showcase

Good Luck M/V Making

AOA Tops Charts With Summer Tune “Good Luck”

Girl group AOA released their new song “Good Luck” on May 16, and has already topped seven different music charts. At around 7 a.m. on May 16 the song ranked No. 1 on music charts such as Mnet, Genie, Olleh Music, Bugs, Soribada, Naver Music, and Monkey3. The song ranked third on Melon after TWICE and Jung Eun Ji.

AOA is making a comeback with this fourth mini-album after 11 months. The title track, “Good Luck,” is a refreshing summer dance number written by Canadian composer Matthew Tishler. In the song, AOA members express honest and confident lyrics such as “don’t ever let me go.”

With an addicting chorus and wild crush concept, the song is already taking music charts by storm and setting the path for another unbeatable summer hit.

AOA’s “Good Luck” MV sees reupload on YouTube to avoid another controversy

Fans of girl group AOA were happy to finally watch the latest music video release on May 16th, midnight KST, looking forward to bring the views up as high as possible in a short amount of time. However, they were disappointed to find the original link no longer working with a new version of the music video re-uploaded on YouTube hours later.

FNC Entertainment posted on their SNS accounts, apologizing on May 16th, writing, “The 4th MINI ALBUM [Good Luck] released on May 16th 12:00 AM was re-uploaded due to an error in editing. I hope those who experienced difficulty in viewing will understand.”

It was later revealed through news media portal that the editing error was due to the Toyota and Honda logos not being blurred in the original upload with the current version having the car logos blurred out. Both car companies are Japanese enterprises and are known to have forced labor on the Korean people in the past during the Japanese invasion of Korea.

With the recent controversy surrounding AOA member Seolhyun and Jimin, who were both criticized after being unable to recognize an important Korean hero who sacrificed his life to fight off the Japanese invasion on a recent episode of Channel AOA, the decision to blur out Japanese companies Toyota and Honda was made most likely to avoid another controversy.

Was AOA’s “Good Luck” Music Video Edited Because Of History Controversy? Agency Responds

AOA’s new title track “Good Luck” has been taking the music charts by storm since its release at 12 a.m. KST on May 16.

However, shortly after its release, the music video became unavailable. It was later re-uploaded, but many have noticed edits to the music video and are speculating as to what the reasons might be.

Fans noticed that the edited scenes are those that included product placement. A “Toyota” logo on a car was blurred out in one scene at 2 minutes 37 seconds, while another scene at 2 minutes 43 seconds was cut completely. Fans speculate that these edits are due to the inclusion of “Toyota” and “Honda” branded cars, both of which are Japanese companies, and that they were removed to show sensitivity for the recent history controversy, in which members were unable to identify an important Korean historical figure who fought for Korean independence from Japanese colonial rule.

AOA’s agency, FNC Entertainment have responded to the speculations, stating, “Excluding the vehicles, we admit that other products in the music video were included as product placement. The vehicles, however, were merely borrowed due to the local situation and we had no intention to show [the brand].”

They continued, “If there are parts [of the music video] which are not well done, or are lacking, we will not hide them and will apologize for them accordingly. We hope that there will be no misunderstandings regarding the vehicles and brand product placement.”

AOA’s agency, FNC Entertainment had previously asked for understanding from fans on their Twitter for the video being taken down, explaining that they had to edit it due to an error having been made.

AOA’s Seolhyun’s Past Sparks Further Criticism Regarding History Knowledge Controversy

Despite AOA’s Seolhyun and Jimin’s apologies over their lack of historical knowledge on an episode of “Channel AOA,” netizens’ disappointment over this controversy has yet to die down.

Netizens are further criticizing the situation as Seolhyun graduated from Gyeonggi Arts High School, which is located right across the street from An Jung Geun Park, a public park dedicated to the very historical figure Seolhyun and Jimin could not identify. The park displays a statue of An Jung Geun at the entrance.

Netizens have been circulating photos that show the how close Seolhyun’s school and An Jung Geun Park are (pictured below), turning a cold cheek towards Seolhyun’s apology.

This controversy has grown because of Seolhyun’s status as being a well-known idol icon, her participation in public service announcements, and activities as ambassador for Korean Tourism. Harsh criticism of Seolhyun’s position as ambassador even prompted the Korean Tourism Board to address the issue. This controversy has become a painful experience for both Seolhyun and for fans.

The controversy started over the May 3 episode of “Channel AOA,” where Seolhyun and Jimin were challenged to identify important historical figures. Both AOA members were not able to identify An Jung Geun, a well-known figure of the Korean independence movement. They guessed incorrectly several times in a joking manner, which provoked a storm of criticism for their lack of basic historical knowledge.

Seolhyun and Jimin responded to the issue through individual apologies acknowledging their ignorance and expressing their embarrassment.

What are your thoughts concerning this issue following the revealing of information about Seolhyun’s school?

The witch hunt about the history controversy is really getting too much. They made a mistake, apologized for it and are staying quiet, what more can they do?

Even though a lot of the other songs on the album are better, I really like Good Luck as the title song. It is a good energetic summer song with a few catchy lines (I can't get the "Boom Boom Beat Drop" out of my head) and it is perfect to promote. Also really like the choreography and I hope they perform in the black outfits as well. Also would love to have a choreography video of them on the dock (?) with the sunset behind them, lol.

I don't care what people say or about this controversy, they are slaying me this comeback and that is all I really care for.

Just about all the girls cried (yes even the ones not involved in the incident), you can see it if you browse through the photos on fyaoa's twitter page :(

And yes Mina's haircut is so cute!!

I just saw this too:

Jimin's dress for 10 seconds was extremely short.

i actually liked the mv and the choreo for this song. it's a fun song and the mv is perfect for the summer. the dancing could have been better though. choa was the only one who seemed like she was giving her all and going hard.

the digging up more info on them is pointless though. it's not like they can take the incident back, and they apologized. their fans better protect them from these netizens

I wasn't expecting this controversy to get more ridiculous yet... It has to stop! They made a mistake, apologized and are keeping it low, that's all, let's move on.

10 Seconds was nice! I like most of the clothes too. I guess they'll perform it on music show for the comeback week!

Their controversy is really... like ok, everybody knows now that they're lil' dumb/not the brightest cookies, but they apologised/admitted to the mistake instead of trying to dodge it in some fuck uped/cringe manner seen many times in kpop.
I just saw those crying pics, I hoped those do not fuel it more more aka "Look at those fake h*** crying now, trying to score some pity points" bc that we've also seen in the past.

too late, there's comments with like +10,000 ups about their crying, including some that say "why do girls think that crying solves everything?", etc. lol

netizens aren't gonna be happy unless j&s quit the group entirely, wtf. they apologized. it's done. seolhyun does look sad in the showcase vids. :(
but i'm glad the controversy hasn't prevented the song from slaying the charts!
the choreo is ok, but it doesn't take advantage of what AOA can do, and the closest thing it has to a "point" is the like, turn around and butt-shake part.
10 seconds is great tho! i like jimin's rap a lot more than in good luck... also i was kind of expecting choa to spread her legs at 3:07 lol
i was surprised the video wasn't about jimin's underboob/bra padding but i guess that makes sense
