Composer SeongHwan, who also composed singer Tim’s ‘Injured Ankle’, said on 27th October, “Lee Seung Gi’s song ‘Let’s Break Up’ has infringed on the copyrights of the song ‘Injured Ankle’ released in 2007″ submitting his complaint and also documents of evidence in Seoul.

Already there has been some suspicion on 7th October on various portal sites where netizens voiced that the 2 songs have sounded very similar.

Lee Seung Gi’s new song ‘Let’s Break Up’ has caused quite a sensation when he first released it, with the song going up ranks on music charts in just 2 days into its release.

Composer SeongHwan said, “Singer cum actor Lee Seung Gi’s album ‘Shadow’ title song ‘Let’s Break Up’ has infringed more than 4 lines of Tim’s ‘Injured Ankle’. I hereby request for investigation into the case.”

It is known that Lee Seung Gi’s song was composed by Mr Kim and Mr Lee.

SeongHwan then revealed during a phone interview on 28th October saying, “When I first heard Lee Seung Gi’s song, I suspected something. Personally I thought about 16 lines had infringed the copyrights of Tim’s song, but altogether there are 4 lines with copyrights infringed. I sent my concerns to Lee Seung Gi’s company and also to the concerned composers about judging on it and about different variations, but there was no reply, so I decided to lodge a complaint about it.”

He has also decided to file for litigation and also request for royalty fees from KOMCA afterwhich.

But according to the concerned composer Mr Lee of the song ‘Let’s Break Up’, “I have not been contacted by the police yet. But I will be seeking advice from various authorities and officials about it.”

Seong Hwan has written many songs for other kpop singers like Monday Kiz, Park HyunBin, Hwayobi etc.

IA. Something like this should be done asap if it's true. He's probably in it for the money since Seunggi's album is doing well.

Not weird at all. Did you read the article? The guy wanted to get his facts straight before presenting his facts to court he even contacted Seung Gi's agency and they never replied. Plus the average person is fairly busy excuse him for not dropping everything and rushing to accuse Lee of plagiarism. And who's to say he even knew about the song until recently?

submitting his complaint and also documents of evidence in Seoul.

Whoa, what is going on in the K-pop industry? The amount of plagiarism claims are becoming ridiculous. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but credit should be given where it’s due. It’s easy, just get permission from the original composer, pay the fees (because we all know it’s about the won), and call it a remake!

100% AMEN

It's some weird cultural thing, I think. I teach high schoolers here and they copy and paste stuff CONSTANTLY. And when I try to explain to them why that is wrong, I get a blank look. :/

He prob did what a writer would do break down his and the other song and compare and rather then just say it.
Now this a writer... not netizen a writer saying this so this is on a serious side.

I think they're supposed to be part of a collection tribute or something or they're all from the same composer...idk my memory's kinda muddled, but they're somehow connected.

YES, I know what you're talking about, it's suppose to be like a trilogy or collection right?

I think it would take about a month to compare both songs, notify Lee's company AND wait for them to respond (or not respond). I don't know if Lee or Kim are guilty of plagiarism but I believe this Seong Hwan guy is going about it the right way.
