The popular SBS variety show, Kang Shim Jang has thrown up lots of interesting and sometimes sad stories from the 20+ guests who appear on the show weekly. Solbi who has been on the show for the past four episodes, shared a pretty sad story this past Tuesday, 27th October, about her encounter with an anti fan.

Solbi started by saying, "It's very tiring facing all these hate messages."

Having faced lots of anti messages since her debut, Solbi would always play along when fellow artistes "makes fun" of her, but this time, there was no smiles but just tears.

Solbi said, "There was one point when a star had just committed suicide because of hate messages. At this moment, a hate message had surfaced on my Cyworld saying 'Why aren't you dead yet?'. I then replied to this by saying 'Will you be happy if I really disappear?'. But that person became angrier by responding 'Why so sensitive, I was just commenting casually.' Solbi replied again 'Please don't leave hateful comments like this again. Because of your casualness, I might just commit suicide.'

At this point, Solbi couldn't control her emotions as she teared.

Columnist and writer, Kim Tae Hoon consoled Solbi by saying, "I was once hurt by hateful messages as well and then I met Bae Chul Soo. He said something that was very interesting and sincere. 'If it's something that you like, continue to do it till the end. Then those hate messages will disappear by themselves.'

With regards to this, many artistes nodded their heads in approval.

'Why so sensitive, I was just commenting casually.'

it's kind of scary that saying something like that online is completely normal to them..

There is a demand for invention.
Some tool that searches for words and phrases that are often used in those "CASUAL hate messages" and delete the posts before it is posted.
Yeah, till some people learn how to value others' lives.

If telling someone to commit suicide is considered casual... I don't want to know what serious is.

I never had someone told me to die before. But if there were, my naughty mind would like to reply "Would you like me to haunt you?" *the grudge style*
Now that one is j/k.

Anyway, the last advice is good. I came across another good saying about this kind of matter long time ago.
It said "Those who mind won't matter, and those who matter won't mind."
I stick to it ever since ^_^v

clearly I'd be the idol that causes a scandal every other week

Me too. I'd probably reply with something that'll get me in trouble like, "You first."

i think people feel that acknowledging the anti-fans will just make them go after you more, but honestly, i think if more people did what solbi did, maybe there would be less of an anti-fan problem. i mean, so much of internet bullying comes out of passive-aggressiveness and that feeling of anonymity that makes you think you can really get away with saying anything, so it's kind of funny to see how defensively the anti-fan responded when she actually replied.

basically what i'm saying is i love her.

Now if it were me, I would have told them off. KPOP stars need to call them them out openly. It's sad that these netizens don't realize that they are being pathetic. Using the Internet, an anonymous tool, to wish someones death when they don't have a clue about what goes in these people's life. Little pussies...

I'm torn between thinking that she should have just ignored the comment because addressing it gives the netizen the attention that he/she is clearly after and applauding her for replying because lets face it, it's a brave thing to do because they can make or break your career. What bothers me the most is that netizens can pass calls for suicide as a casual joke even after so many people have actually taken the comments to heart.

I'm glad she finally replied. She has a lot of antis that harass her a lot.

If you take my toy, I'll commit suicide !

That's what this sounds like to me .
I like Solbi, I really do . She's funny, a little bit chubby and seems like your average 20 something lost girl . But I HATE HER PITY PARTIES . Like Brian did last week on Strong Heart : that because of his problems he though of committing suicide ...
Seriously ?
I mean I would be really embarrassed to say that on TV in the first place ... washing your dirty laundry in public like that = not cool, desperate !
Furthermore suicide is a serious matter, STOP THROWING IT AROUND LIKE THAT EVERY TIME YOUR FAVOURITE PIZZA PLACE CLOSED 5 MINUTES EARLIER !!!!!!!

How could they! I love Solbi, she's so funny and cute. She never minds when she's made a fun of!! How could you want to have somebody that harms no one to disappear.

And there was nothing casual about the remark she received...

Casual - get the paper, have some eggs, wear your slippers, dress in jeans and your favorite pull over, talk to your neighbor and tell him you wish he'd die. Yeah that's casual.

I feel bad for her but she should toughen up.. maybe people are more sensitive in Korea but if an American artist, let's say Britney Spears, received similar comments then I bet they'd just ignore them.

RITA!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, there's a difference because these things seem a lot more well-controlled in America. Stalker fans aren't jailed in Korea and antis manage to get away with shit like almost poisoning Yunho/throwing eggs and shit and Kang Eunbi. I'd be depressed too, if someone hated me enough to do that to me.

Solbi gets too much shit. From what I saw of her on WGM, she's refreshingly like a real person, her thoughts and vulnerabilities and insecurities are always visible on her face. She seems easily hurt.

I can't stand when antis want certain idols to commit suicide. I mean there is seriously something fucked up in their brains if they actually wish for someone to die.

And I love Solbi, even though sometimes she is really immature.

Solbi is such a sweet girl and I don't know why people think she's ugly, fat, etc etc.

People need to worry over their damnselves and quit treating someone committing suicide or not like a joke.

OK, I'm really annoyed right now. From the comments here people make it sound like Sobli talk about here issues all the time to people. This woman is barely seen on Omona, maybe once every 4 to 5 months, and people still complain about it. Sometimes I wonder what is it with the woman that people hate or give a 'I don't give a sh*t' attitude towards come from. She doesn't say anything insulting about anyone but yet she gets so many of the responses I've read above. People keep saying she's always telling people her business and whining about things. Well I wasn't aware saying a few lines here and there constitutes as whining. I bet most of you do the same thing to your friends and family but don't get the same rude responses back.

What happened to her above is sad and to have someone tell you go kill yourself that's hard thing to swallow. I bet there is a likely chance none of you have experienced that kind of hate and rudeness. Whenever someone says something as serious as that I try to put myself in their shoes. All she wants for you guys to do is understand her but yet people can't take the time and energy to do that. Is it that hard to do?

you know that whole, 'sticks and stones may break my bones but words could never hurt me' shit? never bought it. words CAN HURT. we've seen it countless times here on omona and we've barely even been open for a year. so major props to solbi for sticking up for herself to that awful anti. haters to the left, please.

Why so sensitive, I was just commenting casually

so what exactly is a knetizen's definition of casual commentary? because in my book and anywhere else that i know, i don't think wishing anyone's death casually just because you dislike them for something superficial (e.g. an idol's physical appearance/reputation etc.) is something that you could consider as casual.

and if i were solbi, i would've replied, "if somebody wished you dead by a stranger you don't even know, won't you be affected as well?"
