Mess. A lot of Korean stans are saying the akgae translator redjuhye0n made up half the fan accounts she posted about irene during their fansignings. She also deactivated her account so I'm gonna need to find some other sources.

basically this one non native transaltor posted a translation of irene replying to a fan, who asked her if they could get married, with "marriage is supposed to be between woman and man only." and then there was a big shit storm abt it (well, at least on twitter and onehallyu) until this other native(?) translator tried to break it down to prove that irene was speaking abt herself personally, and it was not a general statement for everyone else. both translators are red velvet fans tho so the jury is still out on this one.

i was talking to a friend of mine (who's korean canadian + fluent in korean) about it and she basically said that like. the way that the comment in the original translation went can be taken ambiguously? as in: she either could've be referring to herself or in general but that, regardless of the connotations involved, either outcome would ultimately be disappointing because the context in general is pretty "no homo".

yep, exactly. it's def one of "those" situations. we're never gonna totally know what she meant unless she gets asked about it (which she won't) or something similar happens that's more blatant. but, ia, and if she didn't want to play along she could've at least turned them down in a different manner.

mte. i don't find anything malicious about what she said and knowing how irene is in general being the more conservative/traditional type. but it really blew out of proportion because people found out the op translator was an akgae and then the people from onehallyu started creating troll accounts about irene being homophobic so majority who don't follow the fandom were like wtf and started assuming things.

yeah seulgisolomon (https://twitter.com/seulgisolomon/status/717721497624772608) posted a long explanation on it. the whole situation is still a big question mark to me, i didn't know what to believe. it's easier to judge someone when you get it at face value instead of it going through several different sources first

i dont think it was a knee-jerk reaction (or where that ultra conservative stuff came from) bc she had said yes during another fansigns (translated by the same fan), i dont know why she answered differently this time but in general it seem like she's still very awkward with fans and doesnt know how to play along yet. like when she scolds fans for skipping school or not studying hard enough. i understand why she would do that but reading those fanacc she comes off too strong?? like she has no people skills or something, and she def needs to work on that.

what her intention was here doesnt matter tho, bc people have already made up their mind about it. i have people on my tl that never acknowledged rv's existence, but they were all over this, saying the nastiest shit. same with all those troll accounts, or people sending gross msgs to rv blogs.
