Also, this is a prime example of how fans tend to think that those idols who grew up in the Western society should have this higher understanding of what should and should not be done, when that's clearly not true. I don't really expect Western idols to not be assholes, but because countries like America or England in her case have been multicultural for much longer than Korea and race is much more of an ongoing, constant conversation in those societies, I basically give them less leeway in terms of their fuck ups, if that makes any sense? Some of the offensive shit I see Korean native idols do really seems to come from a place of genuine ignorance, "Oh, I had no idea that was considered not okay, I just heard it in movies/music/whatever." whereas in this case it feels like she has likely at least encountered the idea of saying "gay" being offensive or "negro" being used as a slur, because those are things I've seen people arguing about for most of my life. I don't expect a Korean native to have that sort of context, I guess, is what I'm saying.
