Rapper Iron Revealed to Be Among 10 Involved in Marijuana Case

On April 1, reports revealed that 10 individuals were booked without detention on charges of smoking marijuana on several different occasions. They were sent to the prosecution on March 30.

The identity of one these individuals has been revealed to be rapper Iron whose legal name is Jung Heon Chul. The 24-year-old was the runner-up on “Show Me the Money 3.”

Apparently, the marijuana scandal was revealed when a thief stole from a 23-year-old composer-producer named “Kang.” The thief stole Kang’s bag and cash from his locker while Kang had fallen asleep after receiving a massage in a sauna.

Police caught the thief and believed they were investigating a simple theft crime until they noticed Kang’s odd eyes and behavior. After conducting a drug test, Kang tested positive for marijuana and confessed to smoking marijuana with his friends.

With Kang’s statement, the police arrested and investigated the other nine individuals. They also tested positive for marijuana and informed the police about how they met foreigners at a club in Itaewon and purchased marijuana through the internet. Also, they revealed that they smoked marijuana because it gave them confidence and helped them focus.

Meanwhile, the other individuals involved in the case besides Iron and Kang include a former first-generation idol group member, a hip-hop producer, a concert organizer, celebrity hopefuls, and more.

I know cultural differences is the key here but just can't understand prosecution for smoking marijuana. I would understand possession or possesion with the intention of distribution but just for smoking? Really?

I'm european too, but weed is illegal where I live, like in Korea, just the sentences seem to be lighter.
But on the other side I know the case when they have found weed in some guy's room in uni's dorm (not the super big amount, but also more than a little) and they kicked him of uni court trial aside (99% somebody did not like him much and snitched on him bc police came straight there, it wasn't coincedance)...

hmm i'm from a place where it's illegal, and i never (actively) smoked... now i live in the netherlands, so let me invite all koreans who like marijuana to the theme park of adults that is amsterdam.
i always wonder how koreans deal with the smoke here... i mean just walking around on the streets as a tourist you inhale some. coffeeshops are not too insulated, and there are plenty of people smoking outside. does that not count when they go home? is that so little?

I don't think marijuana is more dangerous for public healthy than heavy drinking everyday tbh, but I think that's where the cultural difference takes place.

seems like it. apparently the article said that there's also a "founding member" of an idol group, a hip hop artist (male, twenty four) and composer (male, twenty four) involved. but idk if i've seen any speculation on who any of them are yet.

Yikes. I don't know much about Korean culture surrounding marijuana tbh, other than that it's a big deal to get caught. How much does the general public know about it? Whenever the topic comes up on Japanese forums it seems like the vast majority of people don't know very much about it at all (to the extent of seeing people ask what a joint is and what they look like) so I'm wondering if the same is true for Korea.

Too bad for him I think he won't have a career there any time soon since he doesn't have a big fandom nor does he have a big company to help him out. Well apparently he doesn't have a company at all because they dropped him in July (?) and "didn't know anything about this" even tho this happened in March.

I hope he's able to make a comeback after all this. I assume that he won't get actual jailtime, but just some fines and suspended sentence (unless he was selling too) for being a first timer. I just hope he'll be smarter than e-sens and just sticks to booze now on, or at least as long as he's on probation. Also this Kang guy is a total asshole for snitching about his smoker friends.

It's so ridiculous how Korea deals with marijuana, it's one thing to punish people for selling or growing it, but busting ppl for having smoked it in the past is ridiculous and a waste of resources in the judicial system.
