Song: "Fly" by GOT7
Album: FLIGHT LOG : DEPARTURE

Lyricist: earattack, 변방의 킥소리 (Byunbangae Kiksoree)
Arranger: earattack, 오브로스, 5$
KPN: How did you come up with the melody for GOT7's Fly?
EA: I was driving around Sokcho several months ago, which is right by the ocean, and I randomly turned on this track that I had on my phone. And as I was looking out into the ocean, melodies just started flowing in. I had most of the melody for Fly made by the end of that day.
KPN: Tell me a little bit about how that track came together.
EA: It's so easy to make songs without being in the studio these days so I was just on my laptop and I just felt super relaxed that day so it came together quite quickly.
KPN: Do you always make the track first and then write the melody on top of it?
EA: For these more trendy, pop/dance songs, I have to. Just because the track is so important and it almost dictates which direction the song is going to go. But for ballads, I'll probably make the track and the melody almost simultaneously.
KPN: If you had one more week to work on Fly would you make any changes to the song?
EA: It's actually almost the opposite (laughs). We made a lot of changes to Fly before we went into recording, but I personally prefer the original. For example, in the original version, we had the chorus and the hook reversed. So what now comes out as the hook used to be the chorus, and what now comes out as the chorus used to be the hook. But we wanted listeners to get hooked to the song faster, so we switched it.
KPN: Out of the songs that you've written and released in the past year, is there one song that you're particularly proud of?
EA: A lot (laughs). First one that comes to mind is Teardrop by Ailee. It was one of those songs that you just piece together last minute but ends up being a great song.
KPN: Do you think there's a big difference between what people liked to listen to 10 years ago and now?
EA: Absolutely. Remember how I said that when I first started out, I was struggling a lot? My roots are in hip hop and R&B, but by the time I debuted, the hip hop phase had already passed by a few years and everyone was listening to idol music. Now that hip hop has made a comeback, I have songs that I made in 2002/2003 that are just now getting placed. But I'm glad it worked out this way because it forced me to learn how to write in different styles. If you want to survive in the music industry, you have to know how to write everything from ballads to country to hip hop to EDM.
KPN: Did you make any changes to the songs that you made in 2002/2003 before recently submitting them as demos?
EA: The sound sources are almost exactly the same. One thing I did have to consider was people's attention spans. You can't have songs that are 5 minutes long with minute intros anymore. You have to get straight to the point, so that's probably that biggest edit I made to those tracks.

Date: 2016-03-31 03:39 am (UTC)I believe :42 & 1:55 are the hooks. If I remember correctly, the hook is the part prior to the chorus that draws you in. The chorus would be the part that starts with "Let me hear you say..."
Don't trust me on any of this, but that's what I think it is...
