Descendants of the Sun - Episode 9 & 10 Discussion Post

Plot: Shi-Jin (Song Joong-Ki) is the captain of the special forces. He catches a motorcycle thief with Sergeant Major Dae-Young (Jin Goo). The thief is injured during his capture and is sent to the hospital. Dae-Young realises his cellphone was stolen by the thief and goes to the hospital to retrieve his cellphone.

In the emergency room, Shi-Jin meets Dr. Mo-Yeon (Song Hye-Kyo) for the first time. He falls in love with her immediately. Mo-Yeon mistakenly assumes Shi-Jin is part of thief's criminal gang. He proves to her that he is a soldier with the help of army doctor Myeong-Joo (Kim Ji-Won).


Shi-Jin and Mo-Yeon begin to date, but due to their jobs their dates don't go well. Shi-Jin takes an order to lead his soldiers on a peacekeeping mission to the country of Uruk. Meanwhile, Mo-Yeon becomes upset that she fails to become a professor due to a colleague's privileged background. When Shi-Jin and Mo-Yeon meet again, they talk about their views on life and realise how different they are. Shi-Jin, as a soldier, kills to protect lives and Mo-Yeon, as a doctor, tries to save all lives. They say their goodbyes.

Eight months later, Mo-Yeon rebuffs the sexual advances of hospital chairman Suk-Won (Tae In-Ho) and as retribution is assigned to lead a medical team in Uruk. There, Shi-Jin and Mo-Yeon meet again.

Dang I haven't commented here in a long time.


1. Not a fan of the main couple
2. Love the 2nd leads especially Jin Goo omg
3. Onew's acting isn't that bad, but his character development is a bit uneven. I'm ready for Chihoon to stop crying now and go home to his baby mama.
4. The supporting characters and scenery are what makes this show and I love the different ethnic groups here.

I feel like for the past 3 or 4 episodes, the story has been meandering. The messages are nice but the story is a mess.

just last week i was going on and on about how this drama is bad, and how i only watch for joongki's face...
now i kind of came to terms with the fact that this is just good looking koreans flirting with each other 2 hours per week, and i kind of started to enjoy this a bit more. the actors carry this i guess.

The things that happen when Si Jin and Mo Yeon are together means that relationship has some bad vibes around it. How many cars must perish before her? Si Jin's flirting makes me so annoyed, but it's a good annoyance? I'm like EW DUDE....that is so cute. It makes me s i c k that I get bashful and tolerate that foolishness, lol.

Chihoon. I crumble inside seeing tears on Onew's face. Soft spoken crying is somehow just way more painful to me because I can understand needing to keep your issues to yourself. Still, I'm hoping Chihoon is able to overcome what he's going through. How will he be able to continue his line of work, if he doesn't work his way through his guilt? WILL he be able to continue in the long run?

Though I find the main couple's chemistry interesting, the second couple just has that something. They keep me on the edge of my seat.

There is no way Jin Goo would get away with pulling me like that and thinking I would give a shit about anybody else seeing. No ma'am. It was so hot. This is why I can't understand why the writers won't just let them prosper. If it's not her dad with some bogus shit, it's an M3 virus. What?

There are six more episodes, no firm plot, but I'm still curious. Soldier Kibum is so cute, btw. I do admire the wide variety of different people in the drama though. I got a bit emotional seeing the mixed family, tbh.

also, i feel like the only one who isn't head over heels for the second couple? their story has all the usual cliches. i love the actors, but the age gap has been more obvious in recent episodes imo?

yeah im sad about that too, they won't kill her in ep 11 but still :( i also love how they revealed it at the end; "it's me, isn't it?" (plus the fact that it was revealed at the end and we didn't have to wait until next week to find out who was infected!)

There was a line about how Sijin wants to act out a melodrama w/ Moyeon but every time it becomes a blockbuster that I found hilarious because the drama itself is really a melo-ish in an action setting.

The male leads are seriously swoon-worthy and haven't done anything yet that triggered the asshat alarms. But I actually hope we get more female lead bonding. Pleaaaaaaase

Also... M3 virus (which I'm insisting MJ got from some other source - there's no way it showed up that quickly on a blood test otherwise) is going to keep MJ from getting her kissies! D:

Man I live for Myeong Joo + Dae Young + Si Jin moments. They're so funny lol. And yes to all this Mo Yeon + Myeong Joo bonding! Shamelessly enjoying this drama for the flirting and comedy. The other part of the plot is just so messy omg

twice a week i hate myself for eagerly watching this show but then during each episode IM LIKE GIMME MOARRRR. didn't get the appeal of sergeant seo/jin goo in the earlier episodes but in ep 8/9 when he swore im like ooooh this is kinda attractive.

and can yoo si jin be my boyfriend please. he seems fun i feel like i'd giggle 24/7 everyday if he flirts with me like that 😍
