It's interesting how Hoya turned out to be the "natural" actor in Infinite. Not to undermine L or Yeol, but I just find him more compelling when he acts. To be fair, I think that it's in the characters he has played so far -- they are still rooted in Hoya's personality but are challenging enough to get viewers to separate Hoya from the characters in a subtle way. That, and the fact that his character isn't around for your run-of-the-mill romance or fanservice (which is an idol actor's bread and butter, tbh).
I read somewhere that his dialect got him callbacks for both this movie and Reply 1997 so I'm guessing that roles for Busan dialect speakers are just better written than your standard TV drama people haha. Hoping that L's drama works out well and that Sungyeol gets cast in something off-beat and totally unexpected.
I agree. Notwithstanding his talent or lack of talent in acting, all the roles he played were rather interesting and not stereotypical popular pretty boy of high school. Sungyeol's also went out of the usual idol role with his character in D-Day. I hope with this movie, it will help Hoya get more roles and get more serious/challenging ones at that.
Don't forget Myungsoo is also gonna play the lead character in a movie this year! ;)
I was really proud of Sungyeol for taking D-Day on, even if it wasn't a star-making role :) I wish Woollim would continue helping him get more auditions to things that idols don't typically try. There are too many pretty boys in the industry being pretty boys in dramas, it's a goddamn stereotype. Some image-breaking stuff would be refreshing like a dark comedy, a horror movie or an indie or something haha. Hoya as Joonhee initially gave Woollim some reservations but it paid off. Hope they can do the same for the other boys :)
Ooh, I didn't know about L's movie -- I think I zoned out after learning about the drama set in the Philippines (where I'm from, lol).
Yeah, if they want to be taken more seriously, they need to break off the stereotype. I haven't watched the dramas Kyungsoo played in, but he's getting roles tha are interesting, I think he played a psychopath or something? But yeah, he's getting lots of love calls from producers now (being in Exo also helps a lot but yeah).
His movie had been announced a while back in November, I think. Once he starts doing promotion for it, I'm sure we'll see more posts about it on omona. I don't want to spoil anything yet, but I can already tell you this year will be rather busy for the boys. Look forward to it. ^^
