This...this sounds bad. I mean, I expected it. But I mean damn. I don't know what he's saying, but his flow sounds bad, and the music is- well no it's not the music. It's like his voice is flat against the music. The music isn't doing anything special, but it's not to blame for the song being crap.

To be fair, I'm only on #3 right now, which is better than the first two. The flow is alot better here, but his voice is still a bit flat. It's almost like he's out of tune while rapping, and that is boggling my mind.

What I will commend is Ravi putting out a mixtape. I can't shoot down someone trying to put out their own sound (Okay, I kinda can)but he's young and there's plenty of room to improve. If Jay Park can do it, he sure as hell can.

Edit: Yeah I'm about halfway through and that was exactly the problem. He's somehow rapping offpitch and it's driving me crazy. Especially when he gets to the chorus of his songs where he's basically repeating the same word or phrase over and over and over again. :/

Finished the entire thing and the best song was #10.

I think I know what you mean. I feel like the tracks lack vocal dynamics so it comes off as monotonous. Add that to the pretty basic and repetitive flow, it gets hard to listen to for 11 tracks. The backing tracks are generally flat as well (although I was listening on pretty crappy speakers, so maybe there's more to the production than I can hear, but I doubt it.)

The only track I legitimately liked is 10 -- it's rhythmically interesting and his flow sounds good and Microdot is awesome as usual.

Yeah I don't have a problem with Ravi's voice over a fully backed track like with his collab with Leo or when he's with Vixx, but his voice lacks dynamic. A flat voice with flat, repetitive music just doesn't work.

It's awesome he's doing his own music, but I just can't get into his voice.. >_<;

Ell, say whatever yiou want about his flow or voice, but the man can compose, produce and write great lyrics. So even if omona doesn't like his mixtape, he'll be more than fine.

He'll be fine because he's a member of a successful kpop group, not because his solo efforts are bringing in mad amounts of money. Not to say that he can't, because I don't personally what songs he has composed/produced other than the ones on his mixtape. I just mean that he's not well known enough for doing it to make bank, like Junhyung from Beast or Zico, etc.

And I'm not trying to pick a fight, so I'm sorry if it comes off that way. It just seemed like your statement was saying Ravi's mixtape will do fine despite Omona not liking it, and I think that whether he does fine or not, it's because he's in Vixx, not because of the quality of his mixtape. Honestly, I'm not sure it would do well in Korea either, but that's because of a different theory moreso having to do with his fans than his music.

Lol are you sure you are not trying to pick a fight? ☆ accept that Ravi is not the best rapper, but his production and composition skills are what we are proud of : )) I should have elaborated though, since it's usually Ravi and Vixx fans who go into these posts, who know a little bit more I guess. And my comment was meant more about the whole trajectory of Ravi's career, not his mixtape. So here comes the context.

Ravi will be fine as a producer and a composer because he comes from a company that is famous for its producers and composers and actually creates music for other artists plus a lot of freelancers use/collaborate with Jelly sound ( their CEO is an active composer plus he teaches this at university). He and Leo and other composers all go through the very strict and competitive selection process for their tracks/lyrics to be chosen, before they had to submit them anonymously to eliminate bias.

Plus the company encourages its artists to write/compose/produce and does not limit collaboration opportunities to just in-house people. That's why Ravi has been able to work with all the collaborators on his mixtape too. He has connections and friends in the Korean hiphop circles, people ready to guide him in his growth. However, he has addressed in his mixtape the hate that he generally gets for being an idol rapper, so it's not all roses and unicorns.

Vixx LR's Beautiful Liar in the summer, the title track, was created by Ravi, the whole mini was composed and produced by Ravi and Leo, and it sold well for a subunit, winning the first on The Show, also going against SNSD for the music win. He also regularly puts tracks on Vixx albums. So his efforts are bringing in the won. Ravi is not as known as Junhyung or Zico who also have a few more years of exposure on them, but the media is paying more attention to him now than before, and that attention has been growing consistently since August.

His Hyundai Card concerts (it's a series of concerts that invites a range of artists) have sold out in under 2 minutes. Obviously, it is because of the fans (which is a blessing and a curse tbh), but it is still getting the media buzz.

So, my conclusion: Ravi will be fine as a producer/composer/lyricist. The rapper part, well, he has improved since 2012, and I hope he improves more, because there is definitely a room for improvement. Sorry for the long explanation, hope it helps to see where we come from.

Thank you for your in depth explanation, and I say that with all sincerity. As a very very casual vixx listener, I didn't know what he contributed or anything about their CEO. If he did Beautiful Liar, then he indeed has composing talent. I'm sorry I implied otherwise. I look forward to his growth in that case. :)

I personally love it. I've been jamming to it since yesterday, I'm so proud of him. My faves are Lean On Me and OX. That reminds me, I need a Ravi icon lol. I've had this Jonghyun icon since Sherlock era.

the production is pretty good, not the biggest fan of Ravi's flow rapping voice but on some songs he is better than others
