i feel so bad for hyemi and im really annoyed with them. although its edited, she quickly asked cao lu what she would be to change the topic and stop them from laughing at her. then they made fun of people thinking hyemis sexy. its really disappointing but bless you! <3 why did you make them anyway?

i really like jei so that remark was very disappointing. not only it was a lie but also came out of nowhere. i don't even quite understand her thought process. ask in a box seems to be #1 stop where this happens these days huh.
the interview was actually fun and entertaining but now i can't even remember any of that because of her remark. well either way cao lu remains adorable and i like her variety sense.

like aside from being a gross comment what even is so hilarious about saying s/t about someone's skin tone??? on varieties/reality shows/etc when someone makes a colourist comment about someone else every reacts as if it's the most hilarious shit in the world. smdh. the video was cute and funny other than that. i want cao lu's jumper.

The comment reminds me to the one of the Lovelyz(?)'s members. Why are idols so obsess with talking about skin color and making comparisons? It makes even less sense because Jei has dark skin too (for those weird idol standards). I don't get idols...

I think this was my fave stage/clothes from the performances they have done until now.

societal standards of beauty are a big factor. idols are in the business of being beautiful and unfortunately, in Korea, having and maintaining pale skin is becoming more important (just compare idols who debuted in mid 2000s to their current skin colour to see how the standards have changed).

there's a lot of racism and classism involved as well. darker skin is associated with South East Asian immigrants and/or labourers who work outside in the sun. Combine it with Korean attitude of not wanting to stand out or be different, people who don't conform get picked on (even by those who may not conform themselves). It's one of the nastier sides of Korean society that I don't see changing in the immediate future.

I get it U_U And ia that sadly this is not a thing that is going to change soon. I'm more frustrated about the idols talking about it when the fans can hear it and be hurt by it. I think I talked about this on the last SNSD post about colorism.

but honestly, I don't even think their thought process goes that far. I think it just goes 'their skin is darker than mine, they are an other, others can be made fun of', and it's either not a conscious decision or they don't see the issue with it. if hyemi said that her feelings were hurt she would likely get 'it was just a joke' in response. and in the case of yuri, we know she even expects this kind of crap. yeah, i think i saw on twitter that on their weekly idol episode jei was asked why she was prettier than cao lu and she said it's because she's lighter :/

Omfg when i read it (which was quickly on the underground before my wifi cut off) i assumed she meant lighter as in her body/weight (which is still awful to judge someone for their body)

It could be that hyemi never really let them know how upset it makes her or maybe she's internalized those comments and feels the same way as they do after hearing them so much. And there are groups that don't make fun of members with darker skin so I don't know why there are also plenty that do if those groups can control themselves

mm just going by her reaction in this it seemed obvious it upsets her so i would've expected the members to know that after so many yrs :\ yeah ikr like... it's just mind-blowing ppl will treat their supposed friends this way however much these comments and this attitude is normalized/internalized in sk like... there are ppl who will say these things to their friends and it's just so sad

Seeing this wasn't so bad but it's probably because i've been numbed by worse comments. But then hearing about Jei saying she's prettier because she's lighter made the comment worse with that context. I wish there was some way to get in touch with the companies of the groups' that say this stuff and let them know that they are alienating fans this way

And just so this post doesn't become all about Jei, I really like linzy's voice and cao Lu is very charming. I can see why she's popular on shows
