I'm a bit sad he didn't win on inki today but I was expecting it since inki counts around 60% digital points and his digitals are pretty weak, sadly :/. His song should be doing better because it's a solid and somehow public friendly track but his public popularity is still so low...
The encore with Gfriend was the cutest thing ever. He continues being awkward but in a VERY endearing way.

I guess because he's relatively unknown by the general public outside of the group? Like I'm sure if you gave this song to an EXO member or even a more popular SHINee member like Onew or Jonghyun it'd do much better. I think Taemin needs more exposure to the public and being taken more seriously as an artist. He still has a very youthful idol-ish aura and you know Korea basically don't care about male idols.
Also, the song ,while good, doesn't have a super catchy hook/part that can draw general listeners to it.

i've been enjoying all the performances so much and 4 wins (that encore with gfriend was so cute)!!! i'm so happy for him even if he didn't win today -- i've been able to livestream almost every perf (except for like...the last two bc my sleeping for 4.5 hours every day has taken a toll and i've been falling asleep in the middle of the day every day lmao)

and ahhh i gotta watch blue night with eng subs, altho i understood more than i expected to when i livestreamed it *-* ty for this post op!!!

Idk about other people but to me it's public friendly because it has that urban/R&B-ish sound that Korean public tends to like, and it's also linked to a very popular artist like Bruno Mars. I'm pretty sure that if you gave this song to an EXO member or a super popular artist like Zion T it'd definitely chart within the top 10-15 but Taemin's public recognition is very low, basically nobody knows or cares about him outside of the group so that's the major problem imo.

But then SM's problem has always been figuring out how to appeal to regular members of the mainstream public
I actually think SM is giving pretty public friendly songs to their artists lately: SHINee - View, SNSD - Party/Lion Heart, Red Velvet - ICC/Dumb Dumb, EXO - CMB/LMR, etc but again, the difference here is that EXO or SNSD are household names so they're always going to chart well or at least decently either the song is public friendly or not (obviously the most public friendly the best they're gonna chart), while you can give Taemin the most public friendly coffee shop song a la Zion T/Crush that public is not going to gaf because he lacks public awareness/recognition.

I've seen people saying that he looks/sounds dissapointed with his charting and I actually agree. Selling 93k albums in less than 2 weeks is certainly no joke but like other people are saying, knowing that people outside your fandom are listening and loving your song is much more fullfilling for him as an artist that depending only on your fandom bulk buying.
