Descendants of the Sun - Episode 3 & 4 Discussion Post

Plot: Shi-Jin (Song Joong-Ki) is the captain of the special forces. He catches a motorcycle thief with Sergeant Major Dae-Young (Jin Goo). The thief is injured during his capture and is sent to the hospital. Dae-Young realises his cellphone was stolen by the thief and goes to the hospital to retrieve his cellphone.

In the emergency room, Shi-Jin meets Dr. Mo-Yeon (Song Hye-Kyo) for the first time. He falls in love with her immediately. Mo-Yeon mistakenly assumes Shi-Jin is part of thief's criminal gang. He proves to her that he is a soldier with the help of army doctor Myeong-Joo (Kim Ji-Won).


Shi-Jin and Mo-Yeon begin to date, but due to their jobs their dates don't go well. Shi-Jin takes an order to lead his soldiers on a peacekeeping mission to the country of Uruk. Meanwhile, Mo-Yeon becomes upset that she fails to become a professor due to a colleague's privileged background. When Shi-Jin and Mo-Yeon meet again, they talk about their views on life and realise how different they are. Shi-Jin, as a soldier, kills to protect lives and Mo-Yeon, as a doctor, tries to save all lives. They say their goodbyes.

Eight months later, Mo-Yeon rebuffs the sexual advances of hospital chairman Suk-Won (Tae In-Ho) and as retribution is assigned to lead a medical team in Uruk. There, Shi-Jin and Mo-Yeon meet again.

I don't even care about the plot anymore. I'm really enjoying this. It's such a pretty show. I hope the momentum keeps up.

The portrayal of foreigners is quite one dimensional and plays to the stereotypes. For example the (?) Eastern European bar maid in one of the episodes. But, I have to say it could be worse... I tend to skip the ones that I find quite cringe-worthy, like the cheesy lines and stiff delivery.

Just to clarify, the bar maid spoke Russian and they played Russian music there (by the way, that band's vocalist was ethnic Korean).

The foreign actors were a little OTT, but for the most part it's quick and relatively painless... ish.

I like how Joongki flirts. I find myself getting bashful at it? He's coy and playful, but also straightforward in how he feels? I like that. He kind of just went for it at the end of episode 4, and I was at the edge of my seat. Joongki and Hyegyo have really good chemistry; they're very interesting to watch.

I enjoy Onew's scenes. My favorite scene is him singing JYP, and you can see all the other actors behind him just grinning away, cause he's so cute and goofy. It just hit me, I now want to see Sehun and Onew do a raunchy, bildungsroman comedy. So far his scenes have been cute and funny, so I think he can pull off a more comedic role.

I wonder where they shot the scene with the water, it was so beautiful and clear. I can't shake how crisp the color looked. I feel like I have to go there. I wish I could travel (really random, lol).

i hope kim jiwon accepts the lead role for that drama w/ park bogum. she's like the only from heirs who didn't get lead role yet

Her time will come, even if she doesn't take that offer. She has enough exposure to score lead roles, but I get the feeling that she's choosing her projects carefully.

eh i don't think she can take it, kbs was pretty brutal about denying it - they said she's only in the consideration but the language they used was really harsh, and pretty obvious that they don't want her name attached to it. i think someone leaked the news, her agency said they only received the script and kbs adamantly said there are several other actresses they're looking at. people are thinking there's another actress kbs is courting and don't want the drama to be labeled as the one kim ji won's rejected.

i watched all 4 eps today bc i'm a disgrace.

it's not bad? i don't really care about the main couple getting together, but i did like some of their scenes and the dissonance between their ethics was interesting. i don't like that the female lead seems to be at the emotional/professional disadvantage most of the time, but i'm used to it and it's not that bad. perfectly watchable imo

song joong ki has chemistry with everyone he talks to which is amazing and i love it.

(i think the operation scene where they were all pointing guns at each other was really cool)

the best part is Seo Dae-Young though, because he's like 3 of my favourite tropes at once. i fell in love within the first 20 minutes! disgrace

AND onew is there! i didnt know he would be. him and joongki were my favourites in 2010 when i was starting my kpop adventure, i didn't think i'd be watching a drama starring both of them almost 6 years later :')

i didn't really say anything about those two eps, but i had a lot of feelings in general i wanted to share

I love the dynamic of Dae-Young with EVERYONE. He's so deadpanned about everything. You get him with Myeon-Joo who's very expressive, it's such a great contrast.

I do not really understand where they are going with the story but now that we have a bad guy, its going to center around him doing bad things I guess.

Imo this drama could be only song joongki and song hye kyo characters flirting cause theyre so beautiful and I find everything else awkward.

i'm 100% here for the otp and side couples, the rest is just backgroud noise LOL
but i'm really enjoying this drama so far, i just hope the conflict doesn't create unnecessary angst, but this is dramaland, so we'll just see. as far as the depiction of foreigners, i'm surprised they picked people who ACTUALLY SPEAK ARABIC. also SJK's english is pretty good.

The foreigners in this drama can NOT act, did they pick random people off the street? Also, whenever the Koreans are speaking English, you can tell it's them reading from a script. I have no idea what's going on, it's kind of boring? I like the main couple though. Onew's acting is OTT

I'm so disappointed by this drama, everything looks kinda dumb. At this point, I'm only watching it for nice views and hoping that Kim Jiwon gets more screentime. Also, I've heard so much praise for Onew, but he...didn't show anything?!

What plot? Lols. DotS is pretty much Joong ki looking fine as hell and eye-sexing Song Hye Gyo and a whole lot of viewers twice a week. Joong Ki's flirting is so insanely charismatic and intimate I actually started blushing like a little girl during some of his scenes with SHG.

i feel like im watching a totally different show to you guys I LOVE THIS SHOW SO MUCH. the two leads have such great chemistry, i like how the second male leads isnt also pining for her and im so here for like an actual depiction of an adult relationship.

I had to get use to this drama after watching the first episode because it didn't really appeal to me. But the main leads have great chemistry together. The drama is kinda awkward at times but it's just okay. I love the onscreen flirting scenes between Joong Ki and Hye Ko. It seemed like I've been waiting forever for the kissing scene in ep 4 because they flirted so much.
