Wonder Girls: no plans for Korea in the near future

The Wonder Girls are back in Korea and they just held their first press conference today at 2PM - ironic, I know...

It's been 7 months since the girls left Korea, but they returned with good news as they reached the 76th spot on the TOP 100 Billboard chart with their English version of Nobody. Yes, this has been beaten to death, but that's what the press conference was about, their US success!

Each of the girls started the conference with a little message and talked about their time in America. The mood was somewhat sombre when Mimi teared while speaking.




Yenny/Ye Eun: "I'm so happy to be back after so long, and I'm actually kind of nervous because there are so many camera flashes. I was so thrilled that people at the Jonas Brothers concerts knew our music."


Sun/Sunye: "It's so nice to be back in Korea after so long."


Yubin: "It's nice to be back and talk to everyone again."


Sohee and Mimi/Sun Mi while smiling: "Being back after so long with so many people here, it's making us a little nervous."


Mimi/Sun Mi: "When I first went to America, I cried every single day. I think it was because I'm so young and I was also lonely. It took some time to get used to it, it was also difficult meeting people because I couldn't speak English. However, because I had the other members, they gave me the strength and courage. Also, as America accepted our song little by little, that also gave me strength."

Wonder Girls:
"In America right now, Ye Eun is definitely the most popular."

JYP:
"I feel so proud of the Wonder Girls. For the past 7 months they suffered and went through a lot of rough times, but they worked so hard. They are truly amazing. They may not be the prettiest, the best singers, or the best dancers in the world, but I know for a fact that they are the hardest working and kindest singers in the world."

Sunye:
"Although JYP says we suffered a lot, we also felt and experienced a lot of new things. JYP also gave us a lot of nice things to help us through the rough times."



JYP then shocked everyone by stating:
"Right now there are no retro artists in the states. The Wonder Girls will have another upgraded concept in America, but it will be similar. At the moment we have no plans for any activities in Korea. They are doing well in America. We didn't go there just to gain more fame in Korea, we went to America because we wanted to succeed in the US market. Moving forward, our plans are to continue in the US and European markets. A lot of people are doubting us, but I want to break that mindset. It is now the beginning and we will give it our all. Even if we fail, we will fail with pride."

Starting in November, the Wonder Girls will be featured in many American newspapers, magazines and will also attend TV programs. In addition, next year they will release a full album in the states.



To wrap things up, Sun Mi talked about how she loves Girls' Generation as well as f(x). To which JYP stated, "I think I have similar tastes with Yang Hyun Suk, so for me, 2NE1 leaves the biggest impression in my mind."







Yubin and my bb Sunye look kinda rough :( I heard that Sunye's dad is going through some health problems right now? :(

Also, I love the JYP/YG friendship. WonderBang reunion next year, please.

I think there's just more focus on her because she's the one with the best English skills (though the other girls are fantasti as well) so she's grown more confident... I think confidence makes people look sexier hahaha (^_^)

They aren't even a retro group in the first place. It is just a look because he is lost in his own world if he thinks they sound like the supremes or something.

It is weird to me that they would go back to Korea and hold a press confrence to tell them they aren't coming back. lol uhhh ok then...

I hate the way SunYe looks lately. Her hair is so fug but I think everyone else looks great.

Honestly I don't care for their US activities, I feel hurt when I see them trying so hard over there. I'd rather they come back to Korea, not as a safety net, but just because they are better and I dare say, happier in Korea.

I'm not being negative, but I still don't think WG will make such a big impact in the US music scene or that they'll be the first Asians to break into the US.

That being said, I still admire WG for working hard. Not to mention they're so sweet. They might not be the next big thing in America, but they're learning a lot of things, and they're experiencing a lot of things that a lot of Kpop groups/artists don't experience. :)

I just do not get the obsession with breaking onto the American market. BoA, Wonder Girls... just... why? Foreign artists don't usually make it in the US and considering there are no prominent Asian-American artists on the market, I find it entirely too optimistic to think that a Korean artist will be the one to bring that change.
