WGM PD on why she chose Joy and Sungjae as a couple
MBC’s variety program “We Got Married” currently features actors Oh Min Seok and Kang Ye Won who share concerns of single life in their mid-thirties alongside cute and lovable BTOB’s Yook Sungjae and Red Velvet’s Joy. Another couple who is displaying a fantastic chemistry as an older woman and younger man couple are actors Kwak Si Yang and Kim So Yeon.
The magic behind this program is that it allows the viewer to identify with what the stars are going through as they experience virtual marriage on the show. It also lets the viewers to imagine the idealistic type of person they’d want to marry.
PD Sun Hye Yoon of “We Got Married” sat down for an interview with Osen and described the process of selecting the Yook Sungjae and Joy couple. She said, “We confirmed Joy’s appearance first and then looked for the celebrity to be her husband. When I met Sungjae, I thought, ‘Ah, he’s the one.’ After meeting him, I couldn’t think of anyone else for the role.” She also added, “I think Sungjae and Joy are very similar people. When I see Sungjae, I think of Joy.”
PD Sun Hye Yoon went on to say that a lot of people think Joy’s appearance was confirmed after selecting Yook Sungjae, but it’s actually the opposite. She said, “When I met Sungjae, I didn’t feel the need to audition any other celebrities. He was made for her. The two of them are very cute and lovable as they experience things together for the first time on the show.”
