Taeyang posts racist video to Instagram, deletes it, then apologizes

Using some sort of face-swap app that let him put Kanye West's face over his, he says "Happy Monkey New Year" (in English) and starts screaming. He deleted the video soon after. He also made two other videos using Seungri and TOP's faces, which are still up on his insta.

(In the clip he is saying “Happy New Year” in Korean, then pretending to rap some of T.O.P’s past solo work. No mention of the Year of the Monkey.)

I read all the comments and I am very sorry to anyone who had bad feelings about the last post which is now deleted. I didn't know some people would think that way but it is totally my fault and I take responsibility. I did not mean it that way and I hope you guys will understand that. I'm sorry again and I will never make this kind of mistake again. I hope you guys will forgive me.

This is probably inappropriately tangential, but all that face-swap tech is fucking incredible. It's being used for goofy fun stuff, of course, but it's also pretty amazing. The future is here and shit.

I guess I'm just having an 'I'm old' moment, but it's so cool to me. Cell phones weren't really a thing until I was in college. Now we've got these vibrantly lit, tiny, flat, world-networked, super computers in our trousers... that can super-impose a 2D image of another face onto yours... in real time... and move like it's your own face. WTF!??!?!?!!

yoo se yoon's schtick has nothing to do with racism against black people.
koreans associate monkeys more with japanese (still insulting and discriminatory as fuck).
the reason it was controversial here was because yoo se yoon always did the monkey impression with all the guests on the show and people were saying tsuyoshi shouldn't have been asked to do that since: a) koreans calling japanese monkeys is a well known insult b) tsuyoshi genuinely loves korea and shouldn't have been subject to making fun of him like that.

Someone said that he wished a happy new year in that vid and this new year in Chinese calendar is Monkey year so some ppl are assuming "he meant it like that". Not sure if that was the case cause I did not see the video myself, nor was I next to him when he uploaded it to ask "why???'.

I'm not black so more than answering you from a personal observation I'm doing a conclusion for what I understand about reading other comments about this issue.
I think the main problem is not that people think he was relating being the year of the monkey to Kanye because, while it's a big possibility, we cannot know that for sure, but what we really known it's that to compare black people to monkeys is a common racist attack (I don't know what word to use for this). So even if he didn't mean it in that way, he should know better. And to make it worst, he is one of the main offenders when it comes to try to "borrow" parts of the black culture.
It's must be frustating to see someone to choose only be ~knowledgeable~ about the parts who are beneficial for him about a culture, and then being ignorant to some other important points about the racial discrimination they suffer.

When I first saw this, I honestly didn't connect the monkey thing with black people or whatever. I side-eyed Taeyang for the Kanye face swap thing and thought that was the issue instead of the actual monkey bit because that flew over my head. Sorry for being ~ignorant~.
