Kim So Hyun shared her thoughts on the umbrella kiss scene with EXO′s D.O.

Ahead of the release of film Pure Love, Kim So Hyun sat down for an interview at a cafe in Seoul′s Samcheong-dong on January 28, where she said of the ′umbrella kiss scene,′ "If I′m being completely honest, when I saw the script and even right before we went into shooting, I thought it was a little weird."


She said, "I even asked the director, ′Does Kyung Soo (D.O) oppa really kiss the umbrella? The other actors also wondered how that scene will play out. I heard the staff was split on it too. The women said he should kiss the umbrella, while the men said he has to do the real thing."

Kim So Hyun continued, "But the director insisted that we had to do the umbrella kiss. So we shot it, but when it came to actually shooting it, it didn′t feel weird at all. It was just sad and unfortunate. I thought Bum Shil′s pure heart in that he likes her but can′t approach her was conveyed well. I think it showed on the screen too, so I′m satisfied."

She also said, "Although we didn′t kiss for real, it felt like our lips were touching, so shooting that scene was really difficult."

Pure Love is a melodrama about first love and friendship, centered on five friends, told through a 23-year-old letter delivered to a radio DJ during a live broadcast. It stars EXO′s D.O, actress Kim So Hyun, Yeon Jun Suk, Lee David, Joo Da Young, Park Yong Woo, Park Hae Jun, Kim Ji Ho, and more and is set for release on February 24.

it's not bad! i was watching some of the trailers for this movie and it seems like it's kinda corny though, he like......overacts imo but not to an extent where it ruins the scene but to an extent where you're like "oh D.O is acting" kinda thing lol but that was only from the trailer

his other stuff has been solid imo

I'm relieved there is no actual kiss, because that age gap makes me uncomfortable, even if I was super immersed into the movie, in the back of my mind I'm gonna remember how she was probably underage/just recently 16

As long as the message of the movie is portrayed well, then it's fine.

I wonder if there are age gap comments in school 2015 about sungaje/nam joohyuk loveline with soohyun in school 2015? because they literally just 1/2years younger than kyungsoo, and sungjae even had kiss scene with soohyun.

i love her, but i remember suzy (who was 16/17) had kiss scenes with a guy 10 years older than her in architecture 101. that movie is regarded as such a great love story but geez lol irl she was in high school and the guy had his university degree for a while

well tbh, i'm the type that never bothered to found out about the age gap between main lead while watching movies.

but many age gap comments on this movie make me realize that many people concerns about that.
so i'm wondering if this age gap basically had been hot topic everytime kim yoojung/kim soohyun/kim saeron have a love line in drama/movie? or it's just because it's D.O from exo, so everyone start take notice about the age gap ;)

I've never heard of that drama/movie before, but I can assure you that if I did know of it sooner, I would've said something about the age gap lol

My bias may be Kyungsoo but I'm not pressed because Kyungsoo could've kissed any girl (not about to be some delusional fan); I'm pressed about age gaps in general I swear :)

idk if the korean viewers were bothered, but yeah there were a few comments from international fans. the problem is that aren't alot of buzzed about actors in sohyun's age range, so instead she gets paired up with popular guys way too old for her. imo the situation in high school love on was even worse, kim sae ron was literally 14 and woohyun was in his mid twenties. gross.

i remember watching high school love on and thinking that they don't match due to the actress look too young for woohyun but not bothered to found out her real age lol

no one beat Jr got7 drama "my love eundong". Jr basically have a crush in elementary student!! and even though i'm not the type that bothered with age gap, i'm still thought that was weird as hell..

oh god i forgot about my love eundong. that was really strange bc unlike in school 2015/high school love on where the girls are playing older than their age and the boys much younger, they basically acknowledged that she was way too young for him, but no one cared. like, the actress was 13-ish (to me she looks younger) and so was her character. and jinyoung was playing a 17 y/o when he's 21 irl. wtf. idek. pls stop this madness already

Maybe it's just me not being clued in to whatever everyone else seems to know but I don't get the big deal over actors with age gaps kissing?
They're not real couples, imo I don't even consider movies/stage kisses "real" kisses. Like 9.99 times out of 10 no one has actual feelings for the other person.

People were more weirded out by Reset, she acted there with a 30+ actor, in a double role - his first love (flashbacks) and a high schooler (present)
There was also that short drama Ma Boy where she had a sorta kiss scene with a 91 liner
Most people shipped Sungjae and So Hyun as characters Taekwang and Eunbi. I think all irl shipping stopped when Sungjae basically sister-zoned So Hyun and Joy - at once :p Joy-Sungjae are different story tho.

For those curious; this is what D.O had to say about the kiss scene

"On the topic of Kim Sohyun and the umbrella kiss, he ventured, “When I read the scenario, I was really curious about how it would turn out. I thought, wouldn’t we be setting a new kind of scene?”

He added playfully, drawing laughter: “I was pretty sad there wasn’t a kiss scene (laughs). Can’t you do things in a project that you usually can’t? Honestly, when I only saw ‘umbrella kiss’ I thought the umbrella would be covering the kiss, but regretfully, I was kissing an umbrella.” However, he added, composed again, “My co-actor is (Kim) Sohyun, and we’re six years apart. I had no intent after that. It was the idea of an umbrella kiss that was interesting, and I wonder how the audience will receive it.”

this is the first time i've watched the trailer and damn i'm still getting chills up my spine. d.o is not my bias, and have never been, but maybe it was the fact that my romantic experiences when i was younger was kinda like this that i kinda relate??

yeah well i had no problems with the kiss scene -- the umbrella kiss idea was cute, fits the scene, and seriously makes me nostalgic for my life five years ago haha
