kyuhyun finally gets called out on his douchey behavior

Radio star and gagman Yang Se Hyung and Kyuhyun had a bit of a back and forth on 'Radio Star' where viewers thought Kyuhyun was being disrespectful by continuing to fire back retorts instead of dropping the topic.

The argument was about when Kyuhyun had previously asked Yang Se Hyung to host his friend's wedding as a favor.

Yang Se Hyung: "I was supposed to be paid after the wedding but I thought I'd look dumb waiting around to receive it so I got in my car to leave. Right at the time, Kyuhyun and his friend were walking out with the money, but it wasn't even in an envelope and it looked like four bills of 50,000 won bills."

Kyuhyun: "It was actually 20 bills of 50,000 won bills. I was looking for an envelope but I saw hyung coming out so I just tried to give it to him as is. Yang Se Hyung then said that he'd rather I buy him something to drink next time because he felt weird taking it but I haven't been able to treat him yet."

Yang Se Hyung, "If I had known it was 2 million won of payment, I would've taken it even if he threw it on the floor and was holding it down with his feet. Kyuhyun agreed to buy me drinks at a nice place but he never contacted me for a year and he didn't know I was guesting until today."

Kyuhyun: "Hyung left an impression on me back then too. The wedding was at 5 pm but he came in almost late looking hungover and haggard."

Yang Se Hyung then gave up, saying, "I guess I've just become trash then."

Kyuhyun and a lot of the other SJ members are douchey (to put it politely) and have zero manners, they get away with it simply because they are male.

Kyuhyun has always rubbed me the wrong way though. It is not the first time his attitude is being called out and him being funny usually means someone else gets humiliated. But when Hani was on RS and he could have tried to be "funny" about Junsu he was suddenly the shy boy laughing about everyone else's jokes and he didn't even dare to make one himself.

What is actually his role in RS to begin with? He isn't the funny one.

someone on my tlist was translating this episode as it aired and didn't find it as rude and disrespectful as netizens apparently do until the articles about it came out. it was just an amusing anecdote to them. it's a pity the article failed to include that Kyuhyun apologised for the retort and said he would treat the guy when he could. not that he's even obliged to, considering it was his friend's payment to the MC and not Kyuhyun's (who was just acting as a middleman on his friend's behalf).

tbh, if someone was supposed to be MC at your friend's wedding and turned up late and hungover, wouldn't you be pissed? if it was me I wouldn't have had the courtesy to even pay him but Kyuhyun is better than me in that respect.

I'm not surprised netizens think it's rude no matter what the MC did because to them seniority > everything, and if you're younger than the person being rude to you/your friend you're presumably supposed to just suck it up because they're old enough to do and say what they want without repercussions, but I'm a little surprised international fans here are following suit just because it's Kyuhyun when I know people would be calling it bullshit if it was anyone else.

i'm not going to comment specifically on kyuhyun or this other guy, but i just wanted to comment on the etiquette aspect of this post. personally if someone i knew asked me for a favour for their friend, i would expect them to also be the middle man for things like payment because it would be super weird/awkward for me to directly discuss that with the friend since i don't know them that well. if the friend isn't helping in that department it leaves you to hang around waiting which is nagl, so i would put more importance on my friend to make sure i get paid since they asked me for the favour.

also the whole giving money without an envelope is weird to me bc idk i just grew up with not giving above a certain amount of money you owe someone without an envelope or some form of discretion bc it would make them feel uncomfortable? esp. w ppl older than you. i've made that mistake as a kid and the person usually responds that they don't want the money lol. i would feel uncomfortable myself if someone tried to pay me back a large sum of money uncovered in front of people/out in the open.

(kinda ot but i think ppl on here assume hierarchy/respecting your elders is exclusively a korean thing when a lot of other countries/cultures have it as well)

Watching this part is cringe-worthy. It's like both still have unresolved grudge and trying to shove each other under the bus on national television than resolving this on their changing room.
