Pann: Idol groups that have national songs

1. [+335, -37] Ring Ding Dong and Growl are hit songs but they're not national level. They're not big enough to be listed with Tell Me, Lies, and Gee.

2. [+270, -23] Ring Ding Dong and Growl are indeed hits but not national songs.

3. [+206, -12] T-ara was at a top group during Roly Poly...

4. [+79, -7] Also Wonder Girls' Nobody

5. [+75, -13] If we're including Gee, then shouldn't we also call Mister a national song? Everybody knows "lalalalalala" and the butt dance. The chained pants were new and there were a lot of parodies on variety shows.

6. [+70, -46] Did you list every group? Objectively, national songs are Wonder Girls' Tell Me, So Hot, Nobody, Bigbang's Lies, Last Farewell, Haru Haru, Sunset Glow, SuJu's Sorry Sorry, SNSD's Gee, BEG's Abracadabra, 2NE1's I Don't Care, 2PM's Heartbeat, and TVXQ's Mirotic.

7. [+48, -3] Elementary and middle school students nowadays were born when these songs were trending ㅋㅋㅋㅋ It was daebak. There was a year-end collaboration of Wonder Girls and Bigbang ㅋㅋㅋㅋ EXO is currently very popular but their popularity is nothing compared to that time ㅋㅋ

8. [+44, -1] Wonder Girls and Bigbang are insane... The three hits of Tell-So-No is an unbeatable legend and Lies and Last Farewell were also no joke. Their joint stage was amazing.

SJ's Sorry Sorry and HOT's Candy should be mentioned too. Everyone danced to that... For real. :))
Although Kara's Mister and DBSK's Balloons could fit too. :-/

I'm not saying "Hands Up" is more popular than those two 2PM's songs and not even a national song, but I love how every time HU sounds in a show every one automatically starts to put one hand up and jumps to it lol

Abracadabra is iconic.
These songs (+ Mirotic/Haru Haru/Again and Again/I Don't Care/Sorry Sorry/Wedding Dress and swap Roly Poly for the singles of their first album) where used by my friends to get me into kpop lol they're the history of kpop
I would say Lucifer instead of Ring Ding Ding, I don't know if it was that popular in South Korea though. The i-fans answer to this song was soooo crazy.

rdd was reaaaaaaally really popular in korea, actually. replay / shinee's debut gave them recongition from the get go, but rdd is regarded as their "big break". but everything after that did good as well.

I remember listening to Tell Me because Kim Heechul kept dancing to it on every tv show he went on...WG were my first kpop girl group...what a slippery slope it was from there on

and Gee was iconic because even snsd-antis were impervious to that hook (if anyone actually remembers the days of STAND which were dark, ridiculous times)

I would argue that Haru Haru was more iconic than Lies but that could be more of an iconic mv rather than the song itself

Were Heartbeat and Mirotic really that big? I wasn't into kpop when they came out but it's weird that they're saying that RDD and Growl shouldn't be considered national hits but these two should.
And wow @ BEG and T-ara. Most of new kpop fans probably don't have any idea of how big they were. It's incredible how one minute you're a top group and the next minute you're forgotten :/

Date: 2016-02-03 08:42 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kiku-cha8-8.livejournal.com
Heartbeat - idk. Mirotic - yes. It was really big because it was DBSK's big return to Korea after their big break in Japan (their T album did really well in Japan iirc). And they kind of swept the award shows at the time and everyone knew who they were etc etc. I'd say that is a national song because even now there are so many rookies that cover Mirotic despite the song being 8 years old.

BEG and T-ARA were mostly a product of circumstances. BEG's management didn't take advantage of their fame. And T-ARA had that whole bullying scandal. With how big T-ARA was, they could have given snsd and 2ne1 a run for their money on top girl group.

Agree with #8! This was an amazing era filled with amazing wholehearted collabs.

Idk why they don't do boy x girl group collabs anymore. Then again, I don't think the newer generation have that pair of the boy group and girl group.

yea i was just about to comment that. Those were honestly my golden years and the best time to get into k-pop. Variety shows were better then too
