I wouldn't say it's the photoshoot per se, I saw this kind of effect being used for scans to make them look better? Like smoother and without lines? I guess probably if the magazine will post official pics on their site then we can judge

Apparently their retoucher has only read the skin smoothing tutorials about surface blur and not the high-pass filter. He looks like a toy version of himself. The eyebrows are extra tragic.
