I saw someone the other day commenting on the Tzuyu issue when it was already dying down, saying that the only option for JYP was to kick Tzuyu out and replace her with Somi. Arguing that she already deserved it and would even add more to the group than Tzuyu did.
They're reaching levels of absurdity I didn't think were possible for a child that hasn't even debuted lmao
LOL Somi's talent is average at most. She is really young, so there is place to improvement, and I guess this show is going to help her on that. I'm not going to say Tzuyu is a perfect performer, because that would be just a big lie, but she was the most loved one for the public and gets CF contracts without having to do anything. I don't know in what world would make more sense having her on the group instead of Tzuyu xD
Tbh I am worried for Somi. She already had to compete on a survival show and now she's on another one competing with five times the amount of people, most who will see her as the biggest competition because she's from a big company.
Her father was on an episode of sixteen. He supported her a lot and gave her advice. But that seems to be the case with a lot of parents with kids getting on this business (in general, not only korea). If they are there at that age it's probably because the parents push them too. Money, I guess.
Her father seems to be her biggest cheerleader, so I'm glad she has someone there to encourage her.
Imo, what Somi lacks in talent, she makes up in stage presence so she'll definitely debut one day. But I'm still worried that the path to debut might become too much for her to handle. I agree with you that the amount of stress might not be worth it in the long run.
I can't believe Jang Geun Suk, Asia Prince, has dropped in level so much that he does this kind of gigs :p guess he needs that extra ₩ before enlistment. Idk, i try to stay away from all survival shows since I met the guy who writes the script for local Master Chef :/ Mnet is always extra with drama and Kahi & Jessi as judges... idk. At least Cheetah is there. Cube trainees are the only ones I care about and they are cute but... that's it. I remember reading profile posts for this show the other day and damn some kids wasted their youth training. Like 7 years a trainee? And this show will make you not a trainee, not yet a nugu - at most. I think Somi will make it to the final lineup, Mnet is thristy and they never gave people so much story if they won't make it far.
These trainee survival programs need to die tbqh. They're just plain cruel. I don't understand how anyone feels comfortable taking advantage of desperate teenagers/young adults and toying with their emotions on national tv.
that's what i heard plus there were videos uploaded by her dad on youtube when she was a kid and back then it seemed like they lived in canada. but idk, she probably did grow up in korea. i think they speak english with her sister. as for her name, jeon is probably her mother's while somi is her middle name iirc.
this show better have psychological assistance on hand for all these girls bc some of their companies definitely won't provide that, but lbr they probably don't :( I was watching the MV and yikes @ the way they positioned them, with some of the girls being barely visible
also ppl can be so embarrassing about this child, has she ever done anything messy? bc her having annoying stans isn't a good enough excuse for grown ass ppl being this pressed over a 14 yo...
also a lack of talent isn't valid criticism bc like since when did kpop or other industries put that much stock into talent? a personality is sometimes enough to make you a celebrity tbh
I can't speak on her talent or personality bc I've never watched anything of hers. but as you said, since when did kpop stans care that much about talent? the ott reactions she gets are very weird tbh... ppl writing her off as "white" like it's another chad future situation? it's... 😐😐😐 she's a fucking kid, ppl really need to chill
this looks like it'll be entertaining. without this show most of these girls would end up being completely unknown, at least with this opportunity they're getting even a small boost. it may be "cruel" but probably a lot less so than what they'll have to face in their careers lol. i shall be watching this and enjoying the drama guilt-free ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
and yet i'm tempted to watch. there's something so historic about this that i feel like i'll be missing out on some important part of kpop history if i dont give it AT LEAST 3 episodes.
lol @ 95% of you acting like the girls have never watched reality tv before. if they're trying to get into this industry they should prob know how edited and fake things can be. ofc they'll be prepared. it's a test of their acting skill tbh.
