At least this time it wasn't like it was when it was Tiffany and I was like 'where is the colorist part?' AKA: I had no idea to look at the emojis in that situation.
At this point I am starting to become to this when idols do things like this as this point. Like I'm not even surprise anymore. I'm convinced that pretty much every idol is and we'll be colorist and until an idol speaks out against nothing is ever gonna change.
tbh my jimmies aren't as rustled as when tiffany pulled nearly the same stunt, mainly because one of those darker emojis is sooyoung herself so it isn't like she's trying to insult yuri and hyo while praising herself, and she didn't egregiously use any emojis that are typically reserved for dark skinned black people, which would have been an unnecessary exaggeration. i'm unbothered but i really do wish the obsession with skin color would end. feel free to correct me if i'm failing to see something
Maybe I'm being naive (especially since this is post Tiffany) but I feel like this one could be more tied to hair color than skin? Tiffany's was definitely wrong since she made Yuri black but IDK there are only a few set color/hair combos in this so part of me wants to give her the benefit of the doubt.
I'm thinking the same thing. Because if we're talking "colorist" here, then just on skin color, I think Taeyeon is paler than Yoona. The skin/hair combo is very few on emojis.
But better yet, idols should stay away from these emojis and the world will be happy. No?
Seems as though fans are way less outraged than last time. Soo made herself one of the dark ones and no one is a black colored emoji. It still messed up that she thinks that way of herself. :/
Sooyoung posted this about two days ago, I'm surprised that it took so long to pop up on Omona. Honestly, this one doesn't bother me as much as when Tiffany did it - I'm really not bothered at all really. I actually think this one was related more to the hair colours than anything else.
I am so over all of this colourism issue right now. Nothing surprises me any more, though probably I would be surprised if there was someone who wasn't colourist. We've seen so many cases of colourism over the years that it's getting hard to keep up with who hasn't made an offensive comment. At this point in time it's obvious that majority of idols, well not just them actually but a lot of people in the world (not just in Asian countries) will have some sort of colourist mindset going on or have been affected by it. Obviously, it's not right and it's something that should change but at this rate I have no idea how soon that would ever be. This is a deep rooted issue that can't be solved overnight. The worst thing about this is that they think it's okay and they accept this kind of behaviour, which is probably the biggest reason why this kind of mentality still exists in this day and age.
ia. For default I think all idols, and obviously a lot of other people, have the colourist mindset. I'm even pretty sure I had it at some point and I just learned day by day and I would probably suprise myself in the future with a colourist thought and I hope I would learn from it.
I think she's just matching their haircolors unlike tifany. there's only one skin color for hair color right.. but what's the point in putting those emoji anyway
let's continue a prayer circle around the precious maknae of soshi. even if she did do something wrong, she's so self aware I feel like she would apologize.
wtf??? whatever her intention, surely she saw what happened on tiffany's post lol? like even if you're colorist how stupid are you to invite that kind of negative publicity, it's not like they need it. i have no idea what goes through these people's heads
imho I've never understood the rage about these emojis (both in sooyoung's and tiffany's case)... from my understanding being colourist is to DISCRIMINATE based on colour but I feel like what they're doing here is just to DIFFERENTIATE each other? sure there were times where some idols were indeed colourist and laugh/make fun of members for being "too tanned" but I don't see that here. different perspectives perhaps.
jfc Tiffany's IG post is, what, barely two weeks old and now this? Tiffany received a lot of backlash from ifans (i think) for it with >10K comments on her IG post and she has yet to address an apology. It pretty much shows that 1) they see no harm in what they do and mostly that 2) they don't really care about the fans they may hurt (which is a pretty dumb PR move on their part tbh).
edit: looking at the available emojis I am leaning toward this being based on the emojis available or not intently done like in tiffany's comment and idky I thought the hair color came in all shades lol
i think this is def a hair colour thing rather than a full out colorist joke, but as someone who doesn't have any ios devices and therefore am not actually able to see the original emojis/know what emojis there are, i literally don't even know anymore.
another one bites the dust it's honestly internalized colorism and its probably based off of hair color but still? didn't she see how angry people were with tiffany? don't be dumb sooyoung i actually like you well yoona, sunny, seohyun you are our only hope
I really think it's only to differentiate hair color tbh. Because Taeyeon would be the palest, but afaik it's the only blonde emoji.
Buuut, if it wasn't... can somebody please explain why it's so bad? It's not like Sooyoung put black emoji like Tiffany. So is it bad if she identify herself and HyoYul as tan skinned? Or is it because she's East Asian so the only politically correct emoji to use is the palest? Lol idk why we dont stick to the basic yellow emoticons... saving people from offending and being offended
It is not bad at all, she's not using it as a joke to hurt anyone. It may be internalised colourism but there's frankly nothing else in this statement to show that she's ashamed of her tanned skin here. She could very well be proud of her own skin.
TBH, if she used the palest emojis, oversensitive fans would accuse her of white washing herself and self hatred since she is obviously not that fair.
