CJ E&M Music Business Unit has signed exclusive contracts with Eric Nam and Spica, while it has decided to part ways with Jung Joon Young, who has been with the company since Superstar K4.

CJ E&M Music Business Unit stated on December 24, "We signed exclusive contracts with Eric Nam and idol group Spica."

CJ E&M Music Business Unit′s Ahn Suk Joon said, "We signed exclusive contracts because of Eric Nam′s global growth potential and the potential for a talented girl group like Spica has to take on individual activities as well in the future. We will do our best to help them to go beyond Korea and be global stars through CJ E&M′s music infrastructure."

Eric Nam made his debut with a mini album in 2013 and spread his name through singles Ooh Ooh, Melt My Heart and I′m OK. He has proven himself a multi-entertainer, receiving praise from global top stars for his English skills and command of languages. Spica made its debut as a five-member girl group with single Doggedly in 2012, which drew attention for Lee Hyori′s producing credit.

However, CJ E&M Music Business Unit has parted ways with Jung Joon Young. Despite the fact that Jung Joon Young′s contract ended this year, the company continued to provide management support, but the two sides recently decided not to renew their contract. CJ E&M will be offering support on the management end as well as for his concert until the end of the year and help Jung Joon Young make a fresh start.

As such, CJ E&M Music Business Unit′s roster of artist currently includes SG Wannabe, Davichi, Roy Kim, Eric Nam, Spica as well as Son Ho Young, Hong Dae Kwang, Park Boram and Wable.

CJ E&M made a good move signing Eric Nam. He is great at hosting and interviewing especially with international entertainers.

No offense but this seems like a loss of investment. JJY is a much more lucrative artist to have signed on. Spica, sorry to say, doesn't exactly have what it takes to hit it big as idols. Korea isn't checking for their music and they don't put out any stan fodder. Eric Nam I can understand though. He has a good rep and he gets a consistent amount of work.

if mamamoo can make it big (which they will) i think spica could make some waves with the right management/promo/music. i don't think they could ever become huge tho.

Maybe they will do some rebranding. Like leave the idol thing in the past and give them more vocal group image, like female version of Noel or something, but more diversified music?

Spica! Hopefully this means a return for Spica. Could Boa's solo be back on track too?
Eric has strangely gotten popular recently so hopefully CJ E&M can help him capitalize on that.

amazing news! spica not finding success would be tragic with their talent. they had amazing releases with b2m though, i hope the music remains at that level

eh I think CJ is taking over B2M, which is the likely reason why they were signed.

Yaaassss Eric! I'm so happy he's getting on more shows lately, he's such a sweetie.

Here's hoping Spica will finally get that hit song!

I'm glad for Spica and Eric hopefully getting to promote more and having more financial backing. Eric's gotten really big recently so his music sales should increase significantly (especially if he's releasing more frequently).

I wonder why JJY left though. Did his contract end and he didn't renew or was he not offered the chance to renew? He's still popular and provides a good revenue stream so...

Didn't he do some comments in the past about his music not selling or something? I don't remember and considering that you never now when he talks seriously that would be invalid lol But to be honest for a person with great variety skills, being in really big show as a fixed cast also, having looks and skills - he's not that big, like with all that you could expect bigger boom. So does Korea don't care about rock/ is his music not good (Idk, I only now his debut song) or maybe he's more interested in indie stuff, but the agency wants bigger market so there are some conflicts in that department?
He seems to be the assertive/do what I want to do type so I wouldn't put it past that it could really be his choice to leave
