It's also the same place Infinite and T-Ara went to for a show back in 2011. Earlier this year the director of the facility mentioned on Instagram that after that initial visit Sungyeol was the only one who came back to see the kids regularly (and told literally no one, not even the other members o_o) so I'm glad that the others are apparently now going. ;;;
Rebekah teacher : Infinite know this place well. Members come here whenever they are free. SY and DY came recently pic.twitter.com/TW1tMT1MT3 (https://t.co/TW1tMT1MT3)
Yep, sounds like Yeol is getting his brother in on it too haha. If you go to their parents' restaurant there's a bunch of photos on the wall next to the register that the Hansarang people sent over of him with a few of the kids.
i felt a little unsure about the publicity too but if they really have been coming around to the center regularly for the past 7 years... it feels like a publicity stunt for the right reasons, you know?
Honestly, I don't really think it's a bad thing when someone does it for publicity stunt (not saying it's Myungsoo's case, he precisely said he was iffy about the media but if it can bring more awareness, why not). I mean, whenever a celibrity does charity, they gives lots of money, there's a lot of media coverage that bring to light the problem, and fans of said celebrity will want to follow their example. Some celebrities might doing it for their own agenda, but the end result is that they contribute to society. That's way better than those snobs who criticize them for the publicity stunt but do nothing.
i work with people/children with disability and i have some experience with celebrities coming in for charity with and without cameras and press and the effect of a whole camera team being pointed at a celeb doing stuff that we do every single day is in most cases damaging to the ppl with disability you can't just negate those effects with money now without cameras it's a different thing and a good experience for everyone involved
also, you don't wanna know what some celebs have said when the cameras are off but sure i'm a snob who does nothing
You do realize that you didn't criticise myungsoo and there's nothing in your previous comment that would let people think you don't do charity. So considering your first comment doesn't fit any criterias of what I said, I don't know why you think I'm aiming this at you. You don't need to justify yourself. LOL
i don't understand people who criticize the presence of media for celebrity acts of charity. as long as the cameras weren't obnoxious and disrupting the children or staff, why does it matter? why shouldn't the world see the happy faces of these children?
I don't actively do charity work, most I've ever done is donate so I feel like I can't really have a horse in this race but I still agree with you. At least it brings exposure? But I can see how it can rub some the wrong way.
pasted from my comments above: i work with people/children with disability and i have some experience with celebrities coming in for charity with and without cameras and press and the effect of a whole camera team being pointed at a celeb doing stuff that we do every single day is in most cases damaging to the ppl with disability you can't just negate those effects with money now without cameras it's a different thing and a good experience for everyone involved
also, you don't wanna know what some celebs have said when the cameras are off with the huge sns following celebs have nowadays you could just tweet and encourage your fans to give to the charity you're supporting and maybe post a selfie in the santa claus costume or smth (in this case)
it's mostly german football players idk how familiar you are with those we had one guy who asked for "more disabled looking" ppl in his photo and a production company asking for only young ppl to be featured the organization that manages my workplace works with the city football club so every player /has/ to come at one point tho sincr abt 4 years ago we dont allow cameras anymore most of them are awkward but try their best standout would be marco reus who came for the club once and then came regularly in his own time to play foosball and stuff he even sends signed jerseys/cards now that hes transferred
that's why i said "as long as the cameras weren't disrupting the children". and i didn't say anything about money so idk why you brought that up....
we can only hope that in this case they were not. and since the organization thanked myungsoo/infinite and said they were sincere we can assume that it was not an issue. i'm aware that celebrities do things solely for their image but i don't believe that was the case here.
i get what you're saying in the last part of your comment but it's a lot less personal than the public actually putting faces (in this case the children) to a cause and seeing their fav celebrity actually taking action to do something. anyone could tweet but imo it's more effective to do.
my comment was just a copy paste so that's where the money talk came from
well, my workplace thanks every celebrity too. that's managed by the ppl who don't actually work there but just manage the place. so actually that's no guarantee
and i feel iffy abt putting faces to a cause why do you need to /see/ ppl to want to help them why isn't it enough to know they need help
anyway, i didn't think myungsoo (or infinite) were doing this solely for publicity but as someone who's seen celebrity charity i can't help but think that ppl in this post are a little naive i'm sure it comes from the right place tho
Is the charity you work for more well known though? I think some charities might welcome the exposure more than others. Like I don't think a place like St. Jude needs the camera work, or even some smaller charities, but I couldn't even find anything on this particular charity and I tried searching for it under 3 possible names since I wasn't sure if the tweets about it being partly an adopting agency were right but I couldn't find anything aside from the video from a few years back where T-ara and Infinite visited so I think the appreciation might be a bit different, especially since they mentioned no other celebs visit them but Infinite.
it should be enough to know someone needs help but that's not reality. it's pretty simple psychology. people are more willing and likely to help when they are emotionally connected and are able to see with their own two eyes why they need to help. why do you think documentaries exposing social ills exist? why doesn't st jude just have commercials with a doctor talking to the camera and asking for donations instead of showing footage of the kids and what they're going through? t's psychological. and the kids in these pictures mostly look happy... why shouldn't that happiness be shared? i could see it being exploitative if they looked distressed or in pain but they're just pictures of them playing with a nice guy who showed up to give them presents.
also this particular place myungsoo went to has been visited by sungyeol and his younger brother. a while back an employee called in to a radio show infinite was on to thank sungyeol and tell him the kids missed him, when he had never mentioned volunteering there before. so they have been associated with infinite before.
like, nothing in this world is black and white. there are times when media is appropriate for charity and times when it is not. but at the end of the day what matters is that the kids had a pleasant experience and that hopefully rebecca house will gain more exposure and more people who want to follow in myungsoo's footsteps.
fair question ... when celebrities do charity so public, i think they want one of those things: 1) improve their images 2) inspire their fans/followers to do the same
This is such lovely news :) It's always good when celebrities use their fame to help bring attention to needs where they might inspire others to help, and it looks like Myungsoo was a very welcome visitor anyway if these pics are anything to go by.
but yeah what IS it supposed to look like then?? is there some official standard of charity out there that celebrities must adhere to in order to look genuine?

edit: I also want to point out that it's the organization that Global Inspirits Union helped for Infinite's 5th Anniversary "One Love Project"
