shinhwa 2

"Junior-nims, orange is a color that has belonged to Shinhwa Changjo since 1998. If possible, please avoid using the color orange. See you when we promote next year. From Shinhwa's Eric."

Article: Shinhwa Eric, "Juniors, please avoid the color orange"

Source: 10asia via Daum

1. [+693, -56] It might look childish to other people but his fans must feel so grateful that he said that

2. [+470, -40] "Please avoid using the color orange" Instant retweet

3. [+391, -32] You don't even have to be a member of Shinhwa Changjo to know that the color orange belongs to them. Anyone with even a teensy bit of interest would know that. What is YG thinking printing goods in that color...? I bet even iKON fans are pissed with YGㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

4. [+205, -12] That's right, Shinhwa is still a promoting idol group, it's best not to overlap colors

5. [+203, -12] Eric knows that even if he gets hate for speaking out about it, he knows how much the color means to his fans. So many people think of Eric as just an actor but it seems he knows that his true identity is that of an idol singer.

6. [+184, -16] Shinhwa and Shinhwa Changjo have been using the color for 18 years now. Please think of what it means to us.

7. [+158, -16] Shinhwa is an idol group that has been running for 18 years. They have been using the color orange since debut, and have managed to release an album every single year excluding their time in the military, and continue to do so with Seoul + Asia tours and promotions on all three public broadcasts. They have worked harder than any idol and should not have to suffer the discomfort of having their color overlap with another group.

8. [+156, -18] Please just leave Shinhwa alone.. ㅜ

9. [+108, -12] He's right, orange belongs to Shinhwa.

10. [+75, -15] We understand that the color orange is pretty and coveted but leave us alone. So many groups have tried to take the color but it can only be used by Shinhwa and Shinhwa Changjo.

11. [+59, -10] I didn't even know there was an idol group named iKON. Anyone who has any interest in celebrities would know that orange belongs to Shinhwa. I'm sure those juniors didn't know, so what gives? No respect for their seniors? Eric proves to be the leader once again...

12. [+49, -10] YG is such a nuisance to their artists

13. [+45, -10] I don't even know what the point of another group insisting on using orange is? Shinhwa continues to promote as an active group 18 years in with no disbandments or member changes. If iKON fans are seen in the crowd holding orange support sticks, everyone's just going to think you're a Shinhwa Changjo. There was confusion even recently with overlapping fandom colors and the singers themselves thought they were their fans when they weren't ㅋㅋㅋ

14. [+44, -9] So is this about the rumors of iKON's support stick being orange ㅎㅎ

15. [+40, -11] Shinhwa = orange is so ingrained in everyone that I'm surprised there are even still groups that are attempting to use that color

-

Source: Naver

1. [+6,206, -620] It's not like Shinhwa's an inactive group... poor iKON having to deal with YG

2. [+5,597, -874] I had no intention of ever putting iKON down but when fans went to YG to petition the color, they called it some stupid persimmon color and the rest of us were treated like we were blind while they cosplayed as the victims in all of this. Why should we even be the ones petitioning it to begin with?

3. [+3,441, -344] Reminds me of when BoA entered the music industry with a bucket full of hate for using the color orange when it belonged to Sechs Kies...

4. [+5,178, -997] Just how bad were the fandom fights that even Eric had to step in

5. [+2,566, -405] iKON fans, we're sorry this is happening. I think us fans got aggressive because these color controversies have come up so often in the past few years. I think we should all take a step back and assess the situation for a bit.

6. [+497, -53] Why does YG always screw up iKON's stuff. They've screwed them over so many times from his stupid promotion tactics already. It's like YG is purposely trying so hard to get iKON hate. Poor iKON.

But yeah the name of colours and fanwars that follows are plain ridiculous

It's a little surprising since it's a YG group and Se7en, 2ne1, and Big Bang all had specialized support sticks.

It seems like the use of fancolors is tapering off?? Like, there aren't many newer groups that have debuted that I associate a color with. IA with netizens on this Shinhwa is still active and orange is a p unique color if iKON, I'm guessing they have orange color fangoods, wants to use that shade, they need to ham up the color a bit to appease SHCJ

I thought IKON's color was red? The Konbat is orange but it's not Changjo orange; idk why they didn't just make it red, it's not like TVXQ fans aren't already butthurt about it. Fan color disputes are so silly.

People were talking about how it was "childish" of Eric to call them out like that being a leader and having many ways to reach them, but YG has been around for so long they know what colors mean to the fandoms..? Last time they were trying with red and Cassies were angry, and ikon fans had the nerve to say that it was fine since the group is currently inactive.. But now that someone calls them out because it's so important to them, they're just gonna argue that it's childish? Yikes.

From: [identity profile] lily-of-west.livejournal.com
You mean like TVXQ claiming red, the same color that JinuSean, Finkl and other groups who came before TVXQ were using as their own? Wonder what Cassies were saying back in the day when red (which other senior groups have been using) was picked as a TVXQ color?

This entire situation is childish, anyone who claims differently would be singing a different tune if this were about their favs.

Ever since the scandal with Han Ye Seul, I think Eric should keep his opinions to himself. Nobody has a copyright on a color, plus they don't even look anything alike. I just heard that Shinhwa's claim all shades of orange, who the heck does that?

I dont get how the scandal has anything to do with it but its obvious that this is a cultural thing. The hierarchy dichotomy in asian countries especially korea is strong. So I agree with him. As respect for his super senior they shouldnt have done it point blank. i-fans may not get it but its how they roll in their culture and I am not going to tell them its stupid just because it isnt like that in America

I feel like for YG groups though, emphasis has always been placed on the object and not the color. Like BB is not associated with yellow, but with the crowns, and when Se7en was around, the 7 was more prominent than the green. This is opposed to a majority of groups outside of YG who previously did not focus on elaborate designs, or mainstay symbols (e.g girls generation, 2pm, sj). Which might explain the constant disregard for color like when 2ne1 adopted pink for their glowstick despite the fact that girls generation already had a claim on the color.
I understand the importance of colors in kpop culture, but I also understand that there are culture shifts like how balloons aren't a thing anymore. The idea of a representational color seems to be more and more outdated. I think groups are moving towards symbolic lightsticks such as the Beehive for BlockB, Rose for B2ST, Matoki for BAP, etc etc.

Shinhwa Changjo is insufferable when it comes to the use of the color orange and turn rabid when other idols come into contact with any shade in the same color family. It's childish and tiresome, and it's disappointing to see the actual members reflecting the same mentality. No idol has ownership of any color, period. It's obviously good sense to avoid identical overlaps, but there are a limited number of colors to choose from and an overflowing number of new groups debuting. Similar shades are unavoidable, and Shinhwa's fans acting like they have copyright over any and all shades of orange or any color that is kind-of-maybe-but-not-really like orange is ridiculous. They pitched a fit just a few months ago over Red Velvet's lightstick too, which is a kind of a pastel peach/pink color. It's embarrassing, given that the group's members are in their mid-to-late thirties and the majority of their fandom range in age from their mid-twenties to their early-thirties at least.

And TVXQ fans acting like they have a claim on red is also eye-roll worthy, given that they took red when FinKL was still active and promoting. At least Oak Ju-hyun had the maturity to be sensible about the issue and made an effort to calm her fans down.

And most K-fans outside of the Shinhwa Changjo fandom find their behavior ridiculous.

The pettiness is real.

iKON's color is not orange just like it isn't red, at least YG never came out and said it. Second the colors on KONBAT (eugh YG I hate you a bat, for real a bat?) are not even close to those of Shinhwa's.

Image

Getting prissy over fandom colors was understandable when there were about dozen kpop groups that were relevant. Now the industry is so over saturated that people will use same or similar colors since there's only so many to choose from.

Eric's pettiness is embarrassing, the fact that he's acting like a child and giving wings to their fans to act like they have been acting towards iKON, even tho he probably didn't even check what iKON's merch looks like. It's like he gave green light to Shinhwa's rabid fans to come after iKON. And to basically go after the boys instead of calling out YG (which also doesn't make sense but it makes more sense than to address the boys themselves like this), just embarrassing as fuck for both Shinhwa and their fans right now.

Although children within the iKON fandom need to not provoke shit and argue with these people, you can't go around calling this group nugus.

idk, i've seen other korean sites where the general reaction was eric was being too much
like even all their fan merchandise are different shades of orange
i used to be a shinchang too and my first reaction to this was god eric stop being embarrassing
it's nice that orange is a sentimental color for shinhwa and their fans, but times have changed and there are like three hundred groups out there, it's unrealistic to avoid the entire color orange just because of shinhwa, esp when kpop overall puts much less emphasis on group colors nowadays.

and i don't even know why shinhwa's so defensive about it, like everybody in the damn country associates orange with shinhwa already, they don't need to feel like they're being threatened of having the color taken away.

edit: and to do it on company's twitter is doubly embarrassing, if you were really bothered by it from a professional standpoint you contact yg to see if you can work it out, not address it on twitter and co-signing this bullying shenanigan from your fans.
