Flawless skin is every female’s dream.

Especially, when it comes to celebrities, perfect skin is essential, just like elsewhere in the world. Some stars are even dubbed as an ‘elf’ for their fair skin and beauty, just like an angel from fairytales.

Among many starlets, hallyu star Park Shin-hye, actress Lee Yu-bi and Tae-yeon of Girls’ Generation garnered the ‘elf’ title for their flawless, translucent skins. Check out these stars’ secret behind maintaining their skin and beauty.

Park, who is currently filming a new flick “Older Brother,” is known for her glowing and fair skin. Park said in a previous interview that she focuses on maintaining moisture-rich skin. For her basic skin care products, she always uses extra moisturizing products. Even amid busy schedules, she never forgets to erase her makeup before bed. She regularly wears facial mask at home and sprays face mist throughout the day.

The 25-year-old actress did get her fair porcelain skin from her popular actress mother Kyun Mi-ri, but she also maintains her fair skin by consistent care on her part. On one beauty TV show, she chose a sunscreen and a face mist as the must have items to carry around wherever she goes. She even carries two different kinds of sunscreens inside her makeup bag, to protect her skin during many outdoor shoots.

Taeyeon

Taeyeon has revealed her no-makeup face a number of times on her social media account, surprising fans with her flawless skin just like a baby. She keeps her skin moist by slathering moisturizer on her face everyday. Also she has revealed that Ginseng Royal Silk Watery Cream from Nature Republic is one of her favorite skin products on her Instagram. The cream is dubbed as the ‘miracle cream’ and was praised by various Korean celebrities, including Ha Ji-won, Min of Miss A, Hwang Shin-hye and Ji-yeon of T-ara.

Sunscreen sprays are an Australian thing. Our summers are brutal and we tend to be a more outdoorsy culture, especially around the beach/water, so sprays are more convinent. Im not sure if theyve reached the States yet tho??

Is it just me or are those skincare tips from celebrities always the same - use moisturiser, sunscreen and remove your make-up well. I mean, yes, that's all important, but I'm sure that all of them go to the dermatologist to get treatment at least once a week.

I do pretty much everything they said, but my skin is far from being as perfect as theirs. I don't know, I just find those tips always a little bit misleading. xd

hmm my two cents re things to keep in mind:
cleanliness of things that get in contact with your face
check your allergenes

it all depends on the individual ofc, and the environment, too, but it helped me greatly to just ditch towels completely and to stick to only eating stuff i know i'm not allergic to.

...and yeah, they do get regular dermatologist care and facials for sure. also i heard about vitamin c injectibles cause of korea, so i'm assuming some of them get that, too. ugh i don't do that, but vitamin c oil is def addicting.

I've OCD, so I keep things VERY clean most of the time! ^.~

I like to drink water with some lemon in it, because I can't use Vitamin C products. I tried a Vitamin C serum once and it gave me a terrible rash! -.- My skin is very dry and sensitive and while it's not perfect, it's much better than it was a few years ago, because I've found a routine that works for me. It's just three steps (teatree soap, almond oil and a moisturiser from my dermatologist.), because I'll never understand how people can have a 12 step skincare routine. I'm just: "Do you really need to slap all those products onto your face?".

the cleanliness box is ticked, then:D
that sounds like a great routine.
lol our skin is the complete opposite. anything tree nut related gives me bumps in low doses, pure almond or argan oil or any other tree nut related product causes rashes that resemble cystic acne. (took me a while to realize what was going on...)

That sounds VERY unpleasant. Do you only get rashes if you put nut related products on your skin or also if you eat nuts? I'm allergic to nuts - they give me blisters on my tongue - but putting almond or argan oil on my skin is no problem at all.

it was really scary. but i was like.... i stopped putting anything on my skin, took calcium and antihistamines, then waited. the rashes started slowly going away, so i felt comfortable experimenting later (though i would recommend getting a proper allergy test instead).

yes, i do get itchy tongue, got blisters a few times from walnuts. but i only connected the dots like in the last year or two, when i started using tree nut oils externally and saw the rashes. for decades i was like "that must've been an old walnut" or so, didn't realize why they hurt my tongue. it probably never got more serious, as i flat out told my family to never give me walnuts after one those tongue-hurting walnut cakes, and i just never got to eat other tree nuts.

Yeah, obviously. Plus having good genes is probably the most important out of all. Taking care of your skin obviously helps but I know people that take a lot of care of their skin and it'll never look /that/ perfect.

The tips they give are always vague though. It's really just basic skincare stuff. They always fail to consider the skin types i.e. don't use certain creams for oily skin, don't use certain toners for dry/sensitive skin etc. especially for those with allergies and other skin conditions that can't just apply products without considering the ingredients.

About #2, I just want to say, coming from Australia, we get a lot of sun and every summer get ads about learning to swim and slip-slap-sloping that sunscreen. However recently there has been a steady rise in vitamin d deficiency.

So while yes, be very smart with the sun and protect thyself fam, the sun is not the enemy, just be sensible and try to know the amount of uv levels in your area that is needed for a healthy dose of vitamin d.

(prolonged periods in the sun, protected or otherwise, does not mean more vitamin d - thats up to your uv levels and the amount ofuncovered skin, usually face + arms are only needed.)

yes to all + the obvious "keep things clean" part.
(i mean to me it's obvious, but i see way too many people irl who eg. apply face cream with hands that were touching the handles of a tram right before...)

YES to #1! I've friends, who put so much different products on their faces, yet they eat junk food all the time and only drink a few glasses of water each day and are then surprised that their skin is bad. I mean, come on. Personally I think it's much more important what you put in your body then what you put on your skin!

my skin was really nice most of the time but it sucks right now because finals week and im 3 months into a new pill (but im prob gonna stop taking it). it makes me wonder how celebs deal with uncontrollable hormonal breakouts

I have pretty good skin and I think it has a lot to do with cleanliness and diet. I avoid red meat and most meat in general. Same with dairy other than kefir. I don't drink water a crazy amount but it's more to do with keeping hydrated (you'll need more than just water).

Also! For those who suffer dry skin, I recommend fish oil supplements! I take a powder from Japan and it helps with winter dryness.

If you suffer from sensitive skin, keep your skincare minimal and don't use actives. Better to let your skin get thicker (and usually less sensitive) instead of getting rid of the top layers.

Most of these celebs are right about moisturizers being important. And avoid the sun!!

What I do for decent skin:

Take grape seed extract (that also contains some vitamin C) daily - my tcm doctor recommended it to me because I was a little malnourished for a while and had a breakout. I first took 2 pills a day and my skin looked better within 2 weeks. I take 1 pill a day now.
At least 1.5 litres of water daily - I drink sweet drinks maybe 2-3 times a month and avoid fizzy drinks completely.
Change my bedsheets regularly
*Try* sleeping at regular hours - very hard for me because I'm very nocturnal

I also swear by The Body Shop's Vitamin E Moisture Cream - I'm on my 3rd tub and will definitely get more - my skin is now smoother and I don't get much cystic acne anymore. And maybe Kiehl's Ultra Facial Oil-Free Gel Cream if I could afford it lol. I've only used 1 tub but it was good, as with all the other Kiehl's products lol.

I think it also helps that I live in a tropical country so I don't have to deal with the whole "separate skincare routines for different seasons" thing. I had a terrible breakout when I went to Korea in autumn and the air was significantly drier. In Singapore you just need 1 good routine and you're good. Humidity does terrible things to the hair and makeup though.

honestly guys im not gonna say that i have a flawless face.
BUUUUUTTT ever since ive been using just jojoba oil after i wash my face (which has been for 3 years now) it has never been as amazing.
i barely ever get zits, discoloration isnt a big problem for me anymore and my face just always feels moisturized. its supposedly the only oil thats 'identical' to the sebum you produce on ur face.

only products i use:
purpose gentle cleansing wash
jojoba oil from acne.org (but you can get it anywhere, its all the same thing)

Park Shin-hye's skin is stunning, she was glowing even in the later stretches of Heirs and Pinocchio (when the live shoot+no sleep was fucking everyone else's face up). Sometimes it's just genetics that goes the extra mile on top of good care, but that doesn't mean that nothing will help.
