Q: Your first solo song after debuting with Fiestar in 2012 is coming out soon.

A: Yes. “Crazy Dog” that I previewed on “Unpretty Rapstar 2″ will be coming out as a finalized version on the 11th. This version is featuring San E oppa and produced by Rhymer oppa. You all know the title, but it doesn’t seem like I can go on broadcasts with this song. Haha. Next year in January I’ll be officially debuting with a maxi single with about 3 or 4 songs.

Q: What do you want to show as a solo artist?

A: On the show I was only able to show what I prepared for the missions, with this solo I want to properly show “rapper Yezi”. I want to a more honest side of me than what was seen on “Unpretty Rapstar”. I’m not just “fierce”, I also think I have a rather playful side as well. I want to show those sides of me.

Q: Now you’re a rapper, but you were originally trained as a vocal and dancer, correct?

A: Correct. I was trained as a vocal/dancer at first, but I liked rapping more, so after debuting in Fiestar I did my activities as a rapper. Now rapping is really fun. I’m always writing new lyrics on my phone as soon as they pop into my head. This helps with rap making. Later, if everything goes well, I want to eventually show off all the things that I’m good at, like rapping, singing, and dance. But I’ll focus on rapping for now.

Q: What kind of solo singer do you want to be?

A: I want to be an honest artist. I like talk about when I’m feeling down, but I hate saying the same things over and over again. I want to somehow become a cool and honest singer.

Q: Fiestar’s promotions are also confirmed.

A: Of course. Living in the dorms and everything, our teamwork is really good. Fiestar is a group that has done all sorts of concepts, sexy, cute, innocent, there’s nothing we haven’t done. But still there are a lot of people who don’t know us well, so we thought that if we kept doing different concepts eventually people will like us. You’ll be able to see Fiestar again soon.

Q: You seem to be very happy focusing on your work, but I think it would be better if you had a boyfriend.

A: Ah, I really don’t have a boyfriend. When I saw Lee Jung Jae senior at the MAMAs, he had a great aura. Haha. Guys like Lee Jung Jae are my ideal type.

Yezi has become a real “rapstar”. She went fro being the rapper of an unknown girl group to being recognized as one of the nation’s top female rappers. She has captivated the best producers, fellow rappers, and the public with her frightening skills. On hip hop communities and SNS they call her “God Yezi”.

She has been the most prominent beneficiary of the recently aired MNet show “Unpretty Rapstar 2″. Although eliminated in the semi-final, she was able to impress the public with her skills and confidence. Her presence was unrivaled.

Getting the attention of the public doesn’t mean she can rest. We sat with Yezi on the morning of December 7th to discuss why she started rapping, what it’s like being a girl group rapper that took 5 years to become successful, and how she received recognition from the hip hop community.

She has skills on top of skills. Let’s talk with girl group Fiestar member Yezi who’s become a “rapstar”.

Q: I’m curious as to what you’ve been up to post Unpretty Rapstar.

A: I’ve been busy working on my album that comes out in January. I also did the MAMA 2015 performance and the Unpretty Rapstar 2 concert, which was fun. I’ve also been finalizing “Crazy Dog” which will come out soon.

Q: What’s changed for you since Unpretty Rapstar 2 finished?

A: Um… Nothing has changed that much. It’s not some huge transformation, but now more people recognize me in the street. Before, I would have to have my stage clothes and makeup on in order for people to recognize me. Now people say “it’s Crazy Dog” when they see me. Haha. I really enjoy it and I’m thankful for it. I feel like (this broadcast) was an opportunity to show who I really am.

Q: I’m curious about the other members of Fiestar’s reactions.

A: We all watched it together. We would eat chicken and drink beer and watch. The members all gave me a lot of support. That’s because Fiestar has been through a lot. We feel like we all have to do well together. It made everyone feel happy that I was going to be on Unpretty Rapstar.

Q: Do you have any regrets about joining (Unpretty Rapstar)?

A: I think it was a good and satisfying experience. I trained for 3 years and it’s been 4 years since I debuted, but I’ve gained more exposure in 2 and a half months of “Unpretty 2″ than than from that. I don’t regret joining.

Q: Even so, is there anything you felt was unfortunate?

A: My throat condition wasn’t good, so I was unable to show a better performance, which was unfortunate. We didn’t have a lot of time in between filmings. It’s not easy to find a beat and memorize lyrics in such a short amount of time. Everyone was going crazy. There’s nothing you can do but listen to the beat and practice over and over. Because of that I lost my voice and even got vocal nodules. I’m feeling much better now. It wasn’t just me either, all the other rappers had similar problems.

Q: It looks like you worked hard.

A: It was to the extent of going insane. You have to practice as much as you want to do well. I hate feeling guilty because I made a mistake. There was nothing I could do but work hard.

Looking forward to her other sides. Only 3-4 songs, though? I felt it would be a short solo venture but not that short. ;(

Seems cool and level-headed and, even though I already knew about it, the talk of everyone having to stress over lyrics and music in a short amount of time makes ME stressed.

Don't think I'll ever be a Fiestar fan like I'm a fan of Yezi on her own but I'm wishing them lots of success in the near future.
