UPDATE 2: REFUNDS

see here.

http://azulity.tumblr.com/post/134736186235/exo-2016-mymusictaste-scam

tl;dr

- There are fake accounts voting for some of the cities that were announced on the tour
- Speculation that they were made by MyMusicTaste

There are also these paid votes called "Taste" which you buy for $10. 1 Taste per user per artist per city. The taste is locked in for 6 months, and if a concert hasn't happened by then you get the taste back to use elsewhere on the site. You don't get the actual money back. Atlanta fans apparently spent $4000USD on tastes.

UPDATE: With ~Insider Info~

- more claims that the whole thing was rigged

What is even going on

we coulda told y'all it was a scam before you spent money. I hate how this tour is already messy, but it's absolutely not surprising.

idk why this is so funny to me, it's so dramatic Our Toronto page was devastated, but even more upsetting was the fact that our ally, Atlanta, whom we’ve been helping, who has been helping us, and supporting #TorOrLanta, did not get a concert. and that staywoke hashtag lol

this has to have been a big marketing ploy to make sure there was buzz around the concerts. i'm as sure as everyone else that they had the stops already planned out before hand

I honestly wish none of them used the #StayWoke tag. I feel like it is not appropriate for this at all, lol.

This was pretty obvious. Why are so many of these promoters so shitty? You get these kids' hopes up and take their money shamelessly. It's sad.

MMT looked shady af from the start and this "crowdfunded" concert thing is just a way to make the monetary investment on their part equal 0. Why didn't SM just use whoever they use for their SMTown concerts? But looking at their page, they seem to be managing a lot of other Kpop concerts.

Date: 2015-12-08 04:07 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] nekobot.livejournal.com
Asked this on the other article as well but are MMT actually promoting/organising any of these gigs themselves? If anything they just seem like a blown up stat collection site that K-pop companies can use to check interest as a guideline for concert planning and maybe reduce the risk of underselling tickets (which is a big problem with K-pop concerts) and all the actual work that goes into making these concerts happen (booking venues etc.) is offloaded to someone else.

All in all agreed though, this is shady as hell but that's practically expected at this point...

"If these people are such scam artists, why go with them why not go with someone more legit?" Because they don't know a thing about local markets and because they want to save money

"And what can Kpop companies do to make their Western ventures less.... skeezy?"
Book actual promoters that have a good track record of organizing successful events, and not just K-pop fans masquerading as professionals. Afaik Big Bang went with Livenation who also put on tons of other big concerts, but they're not the best group to use as a comparison for most of these events.

It's a global problem though, people are not just getting shafted in the States. Europe is is just as bad if not worse and I've heard about total disasters happening in Australia as well.

I didn't like how it was SO easy to obviously cheat on that site. But whatever, SM can deal with not being able to fill seats in certain cities cuz so much cheating

I still feel bad for the people who spent money.

I didn't have no $10 to hopefully get Exo in SF when I know these ticket prices might be high.

From what I read on the MMT site last week people who buy tastes get their money back if the concert in their location doesn't happen.

It does seem like the locations were pre-decided though so it's a bit suspect to encourage fans to campaign and buy $10 tastes when they aren't having any impact on the end results anyway. I know that Vancouver had the most makes out of all cities at the time they announced the tour last week, but were falling behind until just before the end. I'm not surprised to hear that there were probably false makes/tastes added because I was already wondering how that were going to ensure that the cities they had decided on and the cities fans voted for lined up.

Can none of these act get Live Nation to promote them? Not even SME? I feel like your hood club promoter would do a better job at this point.

it seems like these locations were chosen before this whole ~vote for where you want exo~ to go thing because los angeles and nyc are cities that will always be on the map when multiple-stop tours are involved. i get why people in atlanta are mad but can you imagine the insanity that would ensue if everyone on the west coast had to try and get tickets for the dallas venue while everyone living in dallas was trying to get the same tickets? yeah vancouver is on the west coast but vancouver is also in another country and i highly doubt a lot of these fans have passports or even parents that would let them peace out of the states for a concert

Date: 2015-12-08 09:25 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] madielou.livejournal.com
Idg why they did this if they already confirmed the cities beforehand? If it's about fake votes then it's not just Atlanta, it was every city doing it lol.

I don't think I would care as much about the money issue if it wasn't for the huge possibility that the majority of those who lost all that money were teenagers/young adults. Liike, scamming kids out of their money is such a shitty move. But honestly what did they expect like the entire thing looked suspicious from the start lol.

Kpop companies need to do a better job of organizing overseas concerts. It's like only 1 in 10 acts that come here actually don't end up being god awful. Stop trying to cut corners with money and actually do your research?? Idols have no obligations to perform overseas but if you say you're going to do it then do it right?
