There was a very special girl group member, no, talented rapper this fall. Through Unpretty Rapstar 2 which aired from September to November this year, we were made aware of Fiestar (Jei, Hyemi, Linzy, Yezi, Cao Lu)’s maknae Yezi (21), who made the transformation from unappealing to appealing on the show.

Yezi has wowed both hardcore hip hop fans and ordinary viewers alike with her superb rapping and stage presence. She has been in the music industry for 3 years a member of Fiestar, but including her 3 years as a trainee, it has taken her 6 years to leave her stamp on the industry.

On stage, Yezi is a “fierce” rapper, but in reality she’s no different from any other girl in her early 20′s trying to follow her dreams. We sat down with Yezi who is soaring with her variety of charms.

Q: This can’t just be about “Unpretty Rapstar 2″. What has changed the most since the show ended?
A: Before, if I changed my hair or the outfit I was wearing, no one would recognize me. Now no matter what I have on I get recognized. It feels good to be familiar to the public.

Q: You gave us a preview of your charms on “Unpretty Rapstar 2″. Is their anything you learned or feel was unfortunate about the show?
A: I learned to always have a fighting spirit and I also learned what my own weaknesses are. The most unfortunate things about the show were not getting enough sleep before missions and messing up the lyrics.

Q: At first on “Unpretty Rapstar 2″ you seemed unappealing, but you’ve grown on me.
A: The whole thing was funny, honestly. I wasn’t a popular idol and I wasn’t some underground rapper either. But when I went to the filming site, I wasn't thinking about who was an idol or who was an underground rapper. I was just thinking of how to do my best without regrets. I think you saw that part of it.


Q: Do you get along with the other “Unpretty Rapstar 2″ contestants?
A: Of course. We all had a hard time on “Unpretty Rapstar 2″ because we couldn’t eat or sleep properly while preparing for each mission. However, out relationships were all good then, and they’re still good now. Even after it ended, the contestants all met up for dinner three times. Ah, the only ones who weren’t there where Exy and Sua since they’re both trainees. All the “Unpretty Rapstar 2″ contestants still keep in touch with each other.

Q: I know the Fiestar unnies gave you a lot of support.
A: The Fiestar unnies were really happy that I was going to be on “Unpretty Rapstar 2″. I’ve been living with the Fiestar unnies in the dorm for 5 years including before debut, and we all watched the show together in the dorms together. The unnies are all very girly, and I’m more of a laid back kind of person. But I feel like they were able to experience “Unpretty Rapstar 2″ vicariously through me.

Q: You recently stood on the MAMA 2015 stage after “Unpretty Rapstar.”
A: It was a really cool experience. I said that if I was ever invited to the MAMAs again, I wanted to come with the rest of Fiestar, and I’m going to work hard to make that a reality. (slay a bit with this determination!)
