Article: 'Grapevine' Hong Suk Chun, "There's a popular girl group member with wealthy parents"
Source: Sports Donga via Daum
"At first, her idol group didn't do well and they were at risk of disbandment. But her wealthy father stepped in and poured his money into the group to promote them." When asked if the group eventually got popular, he revealed, "He supported them continuously until they got popular. Now they're very famous. The group definitely benefited off of that one member."

1. [+591, -47] So it's either Girl's Day or EXID...
2. [+569, -36] Either reveal the names or don't talk about it at all, so frustrating
3. [+381, -43] Yura
4. [+106, -6] Why bother talking about something you're not going to reveal the name to, it just ends up getting innocent people accused
5. [+80, -5] Way better than serving sponsors. Nothing wrong with a father supporting his daughter's group.
6. [+49, -1] Yura's father is an SK board member and they do live in the most expensive apartment in Ulsan but I don't think he's that rich. And Hani's family is middle income at best, definitely not that wealthy either.
7. [+122, -75] Maybe it's EXID's Hani. She studied abroad in China which any average family can't afford. She's also good at other things which means her family had to be wealthy enough to support her in them.
8. [+56, -10] A Pink??

Date: 2015-11-25 02:42 am (UTC)I agree with netizen five,as long as the funds weren't obtained illegally, it's just a father spending money on his daughter.
Slightly OT, but it would make a lot of sense to me if many (if not most) k-pop idols came from well-off families. The amount of debt they can get into during the trainee process alone...

Date: 2015-11-25 09:30 am (UTC)They hit big after Yookyung left. Naeun is pretty well-off too but it was Yookyung who was mediaplayed as rich. There was speculation her dad bought A Pink dorm but he himself clarified it's not true (http://www.soompi.com/2015/01/02/former-a-pink-member-hong-yoo-kyungs-father-clears-up-rumors-surrounding-her-leave/).
It's Yura.

Date: 2015-11-25 09:38 am (UTC)Can't be EXID lol I don't imagine Hani's father taking the fancam or buying new views on it wtf.
Girl's Day would make more sense. Even if Hyeri's relation with Tony put them on the map when it comes to public attention, they still needed money to buy and record songs, film the MV...
Anyway... who cares? A father does what he wants with his money, I'm not surprised that he would support his daughter's dream but want to keep it low. As long as the money doesn't come from illegal activities I really don't see a problem at all.

Date: 2015-11-25 06:36 pm (UTC)Block B had a similar thing, when Stardom was ripping them off it was P.O's father who bought the group's stage outfits. Let's not kid ourselves, idols are generally poor, over-worked and half-starving, maybe if they got decent wages and work hours their parents wouldn't have to swoop in like that.
