IU’s bonus track “Twenty-Three” from her latest album “Chat-shire” has been accused of illegally sampling from Britney Spears’ song.

The song in question is Britney Spears’ song “Gimme More” which was released in 2007. Britney Spears’ fans noticed a voice and various sounds that sound like Britney Spears in IU’s bonus track version of “Twenty-Three.”

For example, Britney’s voice saying “keep on rocking” can be heard in IU’s song. This is an issue because the song does not credit Britney Spears and it is unclear whether there was any permission given concerning sampling the track.

The singer’s agency, Loen Entertainment, responded to the accusations on November 3 and stated, ” We became aware of [this issue] over the weekend. We have confirmed that the composer who arranged the song used a sample from voice samples he purchased in the past. They were unsure of the origins of the voice sample, so we have contacted Britney Spears’ agency to confirm whether or not it is her voice.”

Her agency continued, “We plan on discussing the matter and resolving it after we find out the truth. We will notify you after we find out the results.”

They then apologized saying, “We want to apologize for not being meticulous during the album creation process and for worrying fans. We want to thank and apologize to the fans of Britney Spears who brought this to our attention.

Regarding IU's Sampling, Britney will likely check for it herself.

1. [+1,800, -249] She actually has a lot more scandals than you think... really quite sly of her with the amount of times she's just brushed it under the rug...

2. [+1,666, -217] As always, sly little IU... she was going to brush it under the rug if people never found it but if people did, "I was just looking for the right timing to tell you ㅠㅠ"

3. [+1,515, -164] I knew they'd go with the "we had no idea" excuse

4. [+179, -9] 'Pureudun' plagiarism suspicion:

This is really disappointing as an IU fan

5. [+156, -16] No wonder she lied about wanting take care of her health and not promote on broadcast ㅋㅋ She was probably testing the waters.. if people never found out, she was going to crawl back out. What a little b*tch ㅋㅋㅋ Just retire from the industry

6. [+142, -8] Sounds scary to hear that Britney's going to check it out for herself... well, IU messed with a worldwide star.. hope it's all resolved in the end.

7. [+133, -6] If Sony files a lawsuit, Loen's screwed ㅋㅋㅋ probably Melon too...?

8. [+131, -15] I wish Britney will tear IU to the ground ㅋㅋㅋ Ugh, so sick of her acting like an artist all the time, serves her good

9. [+128, -2] So how did IU use that sample when a sample CD of it was never released?

10. [+106, -6] She's embarrassing our country

The one thing I learned from this mess is that Sony Korea is no better that any other Korean ent. agency. Because their response does not make any sense, who should know if Britney music was part of some sample packages than her record company.

Right? Their response was so ridiculous I'm still cringing at it. I feel like at the end of the year in a "PR blunders" compilation, this would be included.

mess.

ofc netizens will take this chance to drag IU even if she's not the producer/composer from this specific track. I still don't understand why loen named both tracks with such similar names tho....

I also thought her saying "Check It Out" in her single sounded too similar to Fergie in My Humps, but that's me being nit-picky, I think.

if that was intentional, that would really count as a reference/homage rather than plagiarism. there's a big diff between referencing something and ripping it off

this looks way worse because there's 2 songs with almost the same title, one of which she has a writing/composing credit for, the other she doesn't. The one that she wasn't involved in making is the one that has the potential sampling issues (which isn't really plagiarism from an artistic perspective, more of a legal/financial one - it would be barely noticeable if almost anyone else was the one giving that vocal sample, but korea's strange and confusing ideas on plagiarism make this on par with her personally strangling a kitten apparently)

2 of those 'plagiarism suspicions' linked in a comment by a supposed IU fan (willing to be they're as much of an IU fan as I'm a sone) are some of the most absolutely fucking ridiculous attempts I've ever seen. The one for The Shower sounds incredibly dissimilar from the one it's supposedly plagiarising except for a hint of one small part of the vocal melodies being the same. The Red Queen one is even further off, and you had to go back half a fucking century to find something you thought sounded the same? Please get some better hobbies, try and make your own music, do something, anything, that actually contribute positively to the world as a whole, my god

Britney's team will absolutely care - Kate Miller Heidke used to do an opera cover of Toxic for fun in her live gigs but got told not to - and it's not like Kate is super well known or anything outside of Australia

having two songs named exactly the same end it up in a mess after all

iu never talked about it as her own song tho ..... its like a cindy song
(she wrote lyrics for a sample 'producer' drama team gave to her)

there's a reason why this song it's a extra track included only on chatshire physical version

the kind of xylophoney thing in the background of gimme more is quite similar to 23, but calling plagiarism from that would still be pretty ridiculous

Britney Spears will never ever probably hear about this and her team will probably hear about. Even if she did hear about it, I doubt she would care, lol.

Also, it's not IU who's in trouble it's the producers of the song. Get it together netizens.

lol Exopose HA!

This is so messy wtf is Loen thinking and this is Britney Spears we're talking about not some random Indie nugu the could brush off and pretend nothing happen.
And the excuse...I'm no expert but isn't common knowledge to know where your sampling source come from, like come on this is blowing my mind, did the composer just browsing random beat/sound and put it on their arrangement and praying that nobody notice?? Lol better luck next time because they choose the wrong artist to mess with. Britney voice can be heard pretty clearly underneath the beat.

You can hear Britney's voice in the background. The song itself sounds nothing like gimme more. If the composer had really paid for the samples, there's no problem to be here anyway, netizens just love to use their sly fox comments.

The producer of this song is a complete fool -- the song sounds so much like a Britney song already, which makes it even more obvious (even on first listen) how much the 'moans' in the background sound like Britney (she has quite a recognisable voice as well ...).
I still think it's a great song, and I don't think IU is to blame in this case but yeah ... this could have been avoided.

I have no idea why that little scream in the beginning is even there, considering it wasn't in the song's fancams. Not sure what the point of editing the song was, since it was great on its own.

A lot of people need to know that the 23 song being questioned here is the one that IU did not have any participation with the making of.
