Kim Dong Wan thinks Girls’ Generation has what it takes to follow in the footsteps of Korea’s longest-running idol group Shinhwa.

On the October 25 broadcast of MBC’s “Section TV,” he sits down for an interview to discuss his recent solo comeback and overall music career.

When asked which group he would choose as the “next Shinhwa,” Kim Dong Wan replies, “Girls’ Generation.”

“They haven’t replaced any members, and they seem to pursue activities rather freely. All of them also have distinct and unique personalities,” the first-generation idol explained, and finally added, “I think they’ll stay together for a long time.”

1. [+1,487, -441] What's he talking about ㅋ Jessica already left

2. [+1,167, -353] Jessica left the group though...

3. [+884, -144] Wishing an even longer running career to SNSD and Shinhwa!! ㅎㅎ

4. [+870, -208] There is no second Shinhwa

5. [+680, -136] Love both groups ^_^!!

6. [+217, -42] They lost a member but that doesn't mean their group as a whole has changed ㅋㅋㅋ

7. [+168, -46] SNSD will last long as a girl group~

8. [+182, -64] Why are people bringing up Jessica;; she's a member who left, not a member who was switched out. He mentioned it too that SNSD doesn't have member changes too

9. [+151, -32] He mentioned them probably because they're one of the longest running and most loved girl groups out of the second generation groups. Honestly, I don't see any group other than SNSD right now maintain their popularity for 9 years.

10. [+113, -24] A member left but the group never formally had any switch outs. Kim Dong Wan himself is recognizing them so why are the antis denying it ㅋ

lol oppayam, i bet he just named whoever hoobae that crossed his mind
but netizen 4 comment is spot on though

Jessica? Who is that? Poor girl. Well, not poor...
I'm not sure about SNSD, I feel like the group will end up breaking but most of them will stay as friends, just not as an idol group.
I kind of see it with 2PM. Like they will keep doing their solo acts, but once in a while having comebacks as a group. And the Jay Park thing was in the beginning so is like it doesn't count after some years.

As much as I would love the 'right now girls generation, in the future girls generation, forever girls generation' chant to be true, I think once the 10 year anniversary is celebrated, they'll call it a day.

other successful group without member being kicked out, left or changing comes to mind. but ok.

I don't think they'll last that long though. Wouldn't be surprised if some/most members are already considering branching out to a different career, or want to settle down with a family. Not that it's a bad thing, but yeah.

I offer up flawfree Brown Eyed Girls.

damn, the Jessica erasure. Shinhwa is super close to SNSD so I see why he would name them. Whether you hate them or not, I doubt there will be another girl group with that kind of power and popularity in kpop and I see the girls keeping up with some measure of activity as a group just because they're SNSD.

this. rme whatever makes it easier for them to stan ot8. snsd is not the right answer b/c shinhwa been together so long w/o member changes.

ikr I hate it... but it's their coping mechanism to still think the Soshi bond is real and that SNSD8 are angels and not backstabbing witches from hell.

at the end of the day it doesn't matter if jessica was kicked out or left on her own. shinhwa's most admirable thing is that they stayed together all these years. that automatically means snsd can't be the second shinhwa, those k-sones can stay doing the most.

IDK, it seems to be Shinwha equivalent in impressiveness it needs to be a guy group that makes it back intact from all the military service, even without the contract messiness.

I wonder where Click-B will be in a year? They're trying for it.

Snsd is on their way to pass the 10 years mark so they fit his criteria but personally I don't think I could compare them to shinhwa because they didn't stay together till the end. I'm more impressed by block b sticking with each other than snsd's longevity tbh. I thought Zico would peace out with Kyung, since he's doing perfectly well on his own, but they're still all together. Another group could attain shinhwa level of impressiveness would be if the group stick together after they all went to the army.

How are member replacements that much different from member departures? Has Kara changed very much? Though Youngji helps them in variety, it wouldn't be very different if they hadn't added a new member.

Shinhwa is a long running group because they'll reunite once in a while to do group activities and release music together. Will SNSD do that? SJ might.

Kara's on their third lineup though. They debuted with 4 members, sunghee was replaced by jiyeon + hara and they completely changed their concept to cutesy.

Brown Eyed Girls & BigBang are the closest to Shinhwa for the longest running group with the OG line up so??
(BEG & BB both debuted in 2006)

Oh come on.. we all know the Devil's success was the nail in SNSD's coffin, and they kicked a member too, so i don't get why they would be the second Shinhwa.
