Actor Uhm Tae Woong and his daughter Uhm Ji On will sadly soon be leaving the KBS reality show “The Return of Superman.”

Uhm Tae Woong joined the show with his daughter in January of this year, and they’ve since won the hearts of viewers. Fans have come to know him as not just an actor, but also a slightly clumsy but incredibly loving father. We’ve also fallen in love with his well-mannered, adorable, and always cheerful daughter Uhm Ji On.

On October 14, “The Return of Superman” PD Kang Bong Kyu confirmed that the two will be leaving the show. “Uhm Tae Woong has decided to withdraw from the show,” he says. “However, their last session has not yet been filmed.”

Kang Bong Kyu has stated that although their final appearance date has not been set yet, the father-daughter pair will most likely be appearing on the show until mid-November.

When asked whether a new family will be joining the show, Kang Bong Kyu replies, “We don’t have any plans for additions.” He has also confirmed that they plan to go ahead for now with only the remaining four families.

While Uhm Tae Woong and his daughter Uhm Ji On have announced that they will be leaving “The Return of Superman,” Uhm Tae Woong’s wife, Yoon Hye Jin, revealed why they have decided to do so.

On October 14, she posted on her Instagram, “We wanted to tell you during our last broadcast but the news articles came out first.”

The mother continued, “I want to sincerely thank everyone who has loved Ji On for the past 10 months. We came to this decision because we think it’s best that each family member focuses on their main jobs. I will do my best to raise her healthily, happily, and well.”

She also requested support for Ji On who will be on “The Return of Superman” until November.

9. [+31, -35] To all the people who made a fuss on every Jion article asking for her family to leave the show, are you satisfied now? Being funny is important on variety shows but the point of the show is to watch a child grow and mature and it made me happy as a viewer to experience that... I hope Jion grows up healthy ㅠㅠ

i couldnt believe how rude the netz were being like? this is a child. and uhm taewoong is already known to be a shy claumsy guy who doesn't try hard to make people laugh and that's why i love him. he was hilarious on 1n2d regardless though

I think it's good they are both thoughtful parents and jion's probably conscious of the cameras. I liked they both came together to seek advice about disciplining/caring for the child so she doesn't get mixed signals.

i actually liked jion and daddy uhm. the fact that uhm taewoong grew up without a father made me like them more. i can imagine the extra struggle that he faces while raising jion since he didnt really have a father while growing up. it's like watching jion and him grow up every episode tbh.

Im honestly dissappointed in all of the korean fans who bashed this family until they left the show. Yes i understand you want a cute entertaining show with cutie pie babies but i think it provided more than that especially for the parents and expecting couples who watch it.

Idk i think they are making a mistake, they were a good role model for the stressed and clumsy parents who are figuring this thing out as they go along. Just like sarang fam is for biracial families and the triplets are for multiple fams and the quints for fam with lots of kids who all need different types of attention. The whole point of the show was to show people especially dads that by raising kids its okay to make mistakes and its more important that you grow and learn from them.
😡😡😡😡
This is why we cant have nice things

I just wanted to say cute userpic haha! And yeah I have a big issue with this program and anything with babies in it because I feel like it's objectifying them and they don't get consent into it. It might actually become something quite important in their life.

THIS THIS THIS

I thought they were easy to relate to and a very realistic family. TW was textbook first time dad, and probably how most korean dad's act around their kids (since they don't get to see/bond with them a lot). The mom giving up a great career to be a homemaker, and then going BACK to work!!! #werkbitch

One of the things I love about Sarang's family is that Shiho is very much still a working model and mom, even though Shiho is obviously Sarang's main caregiver, and the entire family supports it. (although being a top model in her 40s means she' more of a part time worker)

YES exactly. i'm the first to admit i don't find jion's cut anywhere near as entertaining as the others, but i have been loving what they've been doing. they're the family that really makes me consider how i want to raise my children, realising the scale of difficulty of doing something, and making it clear that not everyone (if anyone) suddenly becomes smart and mature and capable enough of becoming a parent. i've loved how they've brought other people in, especially recently, so that the parents themselves can learn how to be better at what they do.

it's putting a high expectation when the only fathers are ones that seem to be juggling a million kids, feeding their kids super delicious things, or doing super creative things every day for their kids to enjoy. bc realistically, that's not what it's like for dads in korea. they're dying in their jobs, their kids barely know who they are, and it's no wonder many don't have the confidence to do so.

uhm tae woong was a great example of someone who tries harder every day and loves his child so greatly, and is slowly learning lifelong parenting skills. and the ~events~ he does (ie. the halloween house thing, making that plant looking ice-cream hahaha) are so cute. and jion has been making leaps and bounds recently!!!

As much as I enjoy watching this show some of the comments from viewers are just downright creepy. It's also such a blatant reminder of the different standards set for little girls compared to little boys. It's scary how early it starts and it's depressing as hell.

Yes it always takes me by surprise how conventional Korea is. Before getting into kpop because Korea is economically wealthier i thought it would be more liberal than my country but as far as media culture and celebrities is concerned thats not true...which surprises me.

i knew this was going to happen as soon as they added tat soccer player. The hate was real, and undeserved. Their awkwardness was adorable!

I'm still surprised that Sarang and the twins haven't been kicked off, the PD rarely gives them equal screen time :-/

sarang still has her own fandom, but she's not the trend anymore. She's not a viewer's favourite, but they don't hate. Netizen's truly disliked Jion (and that little boy who was the first addition and only lased like a month because of all the hate).

I'm a bit sad I won't see my little sunshine Jion anymore but it's for the best. It's better they leave now before Jion gets too concious about everything that has been happening around her.
I agree with the netizen comment and that's also the reason I started watching this show. Let kids be kids please, they're no professional comedians. I don't understand why those harsh knetz didn't get that. *sigh*
