With all the buzz around Blanc & Eclare, we thought it would be the perfect time to chat with their fashion-savvy creative director and founder, Jessica Jung. The San Francisco-born, Korea-raised singer, model, and designer spills her personal style tips, fashion influences, and day-to-day design perspective.

You spent a lot of time in the entertainment world growing up, particularly in music. When did you first start getting into fashion?
I was always intrigued by fashion since I was a little girl. I always loved trips to the mall and department stores with my mom—she would have to drag me away from the shoe department. I recall telling her that I was going to marry a shoe salesman just so I could be closer to shoes.

Blanc & Eclare started with sunglasses. What made you choose eyewear? How big is your personal collection of sunglasses?
I believe accessories are key to making a certain outfit successful - you can have sunglasses play as a big or as small a role as you’d like. I might have as many pairs of sunglasses as I do shoes...now that’s a scary thought.

Describe a day in your life when you’re working on your line.
For one, the room, desks and floors get absolutely messy, covered with fabrics, buttons, acetate, you name it. When I focus, I like to work for hours on end - kind of like when I’m in the zone, there’s a certain energy that fills the room and the team gets excited. We sometimes work through the night and it’s actually fun and productive.

What do you think you’d be doing if you didn’t work in the fashion world?
I really can’t see a scenario where I’m not somehow working in the fashion industry—it’s just in my DNA.

Describe your personal style. What or who are you influenced by? Do you look at what’s trending in fashion each season?
I’m a lover of the classic yet timeless style. Our brand incorporates my personal taste in many aspects. I certainly keep up with many different fashion trend setters and I hope to one day be considered a trendsetter as well!

You’ve quickly become a leader in your industry and for Asian girls who love fashion. What are your top style tips?
First and foremost, be confident and feel comfortable in what you wear and carry. Don't be afraid to mix and match - experimenting is good

What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve received, and if you could give someone career advice from your experiences what would it be?
Don’t look back and regret, rather look forward and be excited about what’s to come. I always used to worry about life, but I’ve learned over the years that worrying only drags you down. I can’t recall being happier than I am today.

How has running your own fashion company changed the way you view fashion and personal style?
Humbled. I have learned to respect the art way more than I did in the past. It is certainly a gratifying experience, but the process of planning, designing, manufacturing, and logistics has shown me a side of fashion that I never really had a chance to see. It’s challenging, but I love it!

Fill in the blank:

I wish I had more shoes. I feel like I've been wearing my sneakers too much recently.

I need more fall boots.
