I'm just happy Bangtan was 3rd in the votes right after Exo and Big Bang. Hopefully their digital rankings improve and next year they'll get that top 10!

Didn't Miss A's "Only You" do better than a few of these idols' songs? Is their fandom power relatively weak at this point?

They've never promoted frequently enough to build up much of a fandom in the first place, which is why their physical sales have always been low.

EDIT - now that I think of it, it's probably because they only promoted one song/released a mini. Most of the other groups had at least two promoted songs and a full album.

Yeah, that crossed my mind too!

Sistar probably inched them out since they had a mini and just one single that sold similarly, which is pretty sad for Miss A, since Sistar has always been known as the group who was strong digitally but with a weak fanbase.

Oh well, at least they had a relatively successful year. :-/

it's total downloads + streams, i think. like, one of miss a's songs did well, but overall the acts in the top 10 did better (some because they promoted more than one song and others because they can actually sell album tracks, not just title tracks)

You're right.

It sucks that Miss A's mini didn't do better as a whole, since it has a couple nice songs (wasn't a huge fan of "Only You" itself tho). 10,000 units moved is pretty damn bad.

That's what I thought at first too but it seems that it counts overall sales and Miss A did great with their title track but not with the other tracks on the album, while those artists have good sales both coming from the title tracks and from other tracks on their albums.

Toy released his album with the Sung Sikyung title track back in Nov last year so he's qualified for this year. His album was THE winter album. Lim Changjung released too close to the cut off date I think?

I need to see miss A at the year end awards. I'd also like to see Baek A Yeon perform with Young K. from Day6 (Day6 are also deserving of rookie awards, but idk if they'll be nommed cause of their lack of tv appearances).

idr if Winner were in the top 10 Artists of Melon last year, cause I only got really into WInner during Mamas voting. Before that, I was really into Got7 (I still like Got7, but wouldn't count myself a stan anymore). i don't think ikon made a big enough impact, but i know their pre-debut song is within the cut-off date b/c everyone was saying it was and that it was released then so that they could be in the running for a rookie award this year. imo, YG should have waited until next year to officially debut them. With the little time needed to make the kind of impact needed for this type of award, they would need a debut song like miss A's BGGG.

Yeah, View especially is just so good. It's the type of song that I could share with my non-kpop fan friends, and they would absolutely love it.

Mte. I've showed it to non kpop fan friends and they really loved it because it doesn't really sound like the typical kpop song. It has a very fresh and mature sound compared with the usual kpop song that tend to sound a bit more juvenile imo.
But aside from the quality of the song, I'm just surprised because it was pretty popular in Korea this year. When I was there I listened it in cafes, shops, the streets, etc and it stayed top 10ish on melon for 4-5 weeks and 4 months in the general top 100, so I really don't get it tbh.

i wasn't sure how the nomination process worked so i asked around and apparently the cut off for last year's mma's was the end of september and it was for this year as well which means: october 2014 - september 2015 was the nomination eligibilty for this year's awards which explains why a pink's "luv", ect. was nominated. i saw someone ask why exid's "up & down" wasn't because it would have been but it's eligibility was for the 2014 show and it's spike in popularity missed the mark / doesn't count and it won't for any other award show this year.

and for the top ten artists: obviously, decided by 80% digital sales / 20% vote so voting was pretty pointless because these were probably gonna be the nominees regardless. it's also based on overall digital sales for the year, not only just one song, ect.

By Sept 12, Total Downloads:

2. Hyukoh: 3,564,251 with 14 songs (still charting)

so, those are / were the top ten artists of the year as of last month. stats compared to the final ten? kim yeon woo wouldn't have counted because all of his songs were for a reality show which opened up a spot. iu, davichi, exid, and primary all weren't nominated, and a pink, snsd, san e, snsd, sistar, and toy aren't on the list for the year. but a pink being for "luv" and toy's album doing so well late last year, both during eligibility period, explains why some of the others were cancelled out.

I agree that RV, Miss A and others should be there though. They did really well digitally (Miss A straight out slayed tbh).

shinee's after big bang / exo as the best selling boy group digitally this year tho..., and a pink's nominations are based massively off of "luv" from last year so it makes sense. plus it's for overall artist sales for the top ten artists, a pink and shinee both brought in more overall in digital sales than even sistar so it makes sense for them to be included.

those two did pretty well? like the other user said, shinee's the best selling boy group digitally this year only after big bang/exo and way above beast, infinite and others that are considered pretty decent at digitals, and apink did great with luv and even remember which everyone labeled as a "flop" is still charting after 3 months so...
