just finished listening! i'm actually really happy with this debut. the title song is a massive grower. the songs first give the impression of being really generic and basic yet somehow ends up feeling pretty solid. everything is really fun. i really like this mini. can't wait for the stages!
edit: also thought i'd say the vocals actually really stand out to me like i feel like the girls' voices were used really well?
It sounds so young and bright? I really like it ! Maybe not to be played all day long, but when you need the mood to be lifted up and have fun. For now, track 3 and Candy Boy have catched my attention, but Like a Fool is pretty as well. They have potential. I love how 2015-ish gg debuts have different flavours, and this one seems to be fitting them so well
I never expected to follow so many new groups but I had already added Twice to my list before they even debuted, lol. I think that 2015 is a good years for female rookie groups (counting december 2014 debuts in here as well), it's heaven!
Yep this year gave me Gfriend, Playback, Oh My Girl and now TWICE! And they are all cute in distinctive ways so they all stand out! What a time to be alive! I'm in gg heaven! :)
i'm really happy with this debut, it's very solid. the studio version of truth is so good, and do it again is still a jam. i can't wait for the live performances!
Off of First listen (for some...more than that) Ooh Ahh: It's fun and cute so I can't complain. Do It Again: This...was a fast paced bore. A cute bore...but eh. Must Be Crazy: This translated well over to the studio Truth: It was almost there (I loved the live version). Some of the parts in the song just fell short. But yes to them giving Jihyo at the end. Candy Boy: It's cute. I can't really find a complaint outside of the group being a little...weak Like A Fool: This went completely differently than I thought it would.
Overall this is cute...top 10 of this year? No. But is is nice. I do think I can't tell everyone just yet (I got Jihyo, Sana, Mina, Nayeon and There was a lot more of Jihyo than I was expecting. Yeah she is the main vocalist, but JYP groups rarely...give attention to them like that. Here she was very much involved. I also kind of think they as a group seem a little...weak just in delivery. And honestly as much as I like the group, there is a bit of "too many cooks in the kitchen" going on here. Hopefully they can find their groove, because this isn't bad.
i was expecting to like it because lbh half of the songs are from sixteen. but i LOVED it (well except for "I think I'm crazy" i hated that song since sixteen). all songs sounded fun upon first listen but jfc they are such growers! the more i listen to them the more i love them. perfect album for me. title track is wonderful. it's so catchy i can't stop replaying it. i'm slightly disappointed with "do it again" because studio version... i don't know who did audio mixing but it sounds... strange. not quite lq but... i don't even know proper terms to describe it. "like a fool" is one of my favorite kpop songs now. it's so beautiful and perfect, i adore this track.
Ooh Ahh: A grower! Surprisingly quirky, I like it a lot more now 2nd song: This is really sassy and bright but it doesn't feel corny. The chorus is catchy as hell 3rd song: Decent vocals, very poppy but in a much more cutesy way, the production is the best part tbh Truth: Big pop song, I like that it's a love song but not twee or simpering, it sounds very confident, I like it Candy Boy: Punchy, fun, again really confident sounding Like A Fool: Mid-tempo, boring to me but the vocals were good
If I was a sassy cheerleader in a witty teen film this would be my soundtrack basically. It's very obviously marketed at teen girls which is great but it also doesn't feel as pandering or cringey as when boys are marketed at teen girls. It's very bouncy and kind of flippant which I like. I think for people my age (20s, I sound old I know but I'm not) it'd be fun workout music. It's really cohesive. There's something about it that lowkey might even work at really trashy campy pop clubs too tbh. Basically it's definitely for teens, a little cheesy but not unbearably so. I'm feeling it, it's not for everyday tho lol that's for damn sure.
The album artwork is TRIDASAH lmaooo, why is that the artwork?!
Oh and to answer your other question OP, my fave GOT7 songs are Tic Tic Tock, Good (such a pretty disco/pop song), I Keep Looking and ofc If You Do. Others? A(aaaayyyyyyy), Like You and Just Right. I haven't listened to many of their older songs, I'll get around to it one day lol.
Yep the whole album is as expected geared towards teens but Candy Boy and Truth are a bit more mature than the others and that's probably why I like those songs the best. Overall I'm happy with this debut effort and I'm really looking forward to seeing their sound develop as they get older and more experienced because this group can pull off more mature concepts easily but I'll give them time to get there :)
they did a really good job remixing/improving on the sixteen songs, they sound fresh and tailored but still like the same songs we came to know through the show.
WHEEEEEEEEERE IS NAYEON'S HIGH NOTE IN TRUTH? They just gave the line to Mina. I was like "oh this voice isn't very different from Chaeryeong's thank god" and then there's no high note. UGH. JYP, you RUINED what was the best part of the song (Nayeon/Chaeryeong bridge) :(((((((
OTTness aside, I love the whole thing. I'm so ready to stan the fuck out of them. I WANT PERFORMANCES, NOW.
