'Unpretty Rapstar 2' may be all about the rap, but a K-pop trainee at a top entertainment agency is using the opportunity to make a name for herself.
Moon Sua, a trainee under YG Entertainment, is currently appearing in the second season of Mnet's 'Unpretty Rapstar' and has brought up her connection to the agency several times. After several episodes, YG Entertainment stepped in to clarify that the agency's backing has not resulted in any favoritism.
YG Entertainment's clarification countered the idea that the company's trainee would be favored by the 'Unpretty Rapstar 2,' which had been tossed around in online discussion forums upon the announcement of this season's line-up of competitors.
"Moon Sua won't be debuting soon," a YG Entertainment rep told the Korean media outlet OSEN. "She can't be compared to [iKON's] B.I and Bobby or to [WINNER's] Song Min Ho, who made appearances on the show after debuting. Moon Sua is just a trainee who may or may not debut as a YG artist based solely upon how much effort she puts in."
YG Entertainment's rep also clarified that, while she is a trainee at the agency, YG isn't necessarily "in a circumstance to support or give her strength."
"Sua is fully aware of this," said YG. "That is why she is giving her all to the program."
Sua was born in 1999, and became a YG Entertainment trainee in 2010.
Throughout the course of "Unpretty Rapstar 2," Sua has competed against 11 other female Korean rappers. Three of the contestants- Gilme of Clover, Ahn Soo Min, and Ash-B- had been eliminated from the competition prior to Oct. 14.
Along with Sua, there is only one other trainee on the show. EXY, a trainee under Starship Entertainment, who joined the show in its sixth episode.
"Unpretty Rapstar 2" is the second season of Mnet's popular competition show that pits female rappers against one another. It airs every week on Sunday.

we should've suggested 'excessive mediaplay' and 'shut up yg' tags in that tag request post tbh but at least it makes a change from him waxing lyrical about his boy groups

Date: 2015-10-19 04:05 pm (UTC)He's damned if he does, damned if he doesn't, and his statement makes perfect sense. It's VERY clear there is no real plan for any girl group to debut you, and if it does it'll be that group with Jennie Kim that Sua is not rumored to be on. To say she needs to show out and put in a lot of effort as a trainee, (even if he means on this show, but I believe the statement is supposed to be meant in general) is imo totally valid. I agree that YG clearly doesn't care much about his female artists and prefers to make money by selling to the large 12-16 year old girl market and Sua might be better off on another label, but she also would be gambling away guaranteed huge success by leaving YG. It's the reason that everyone would love to go to SM or YG regardless of the shitty contracts. shitty treatment and the shitty potential wait on debut. Even a mediocre debut will net you incredible success on either of those two labels.
