'Unpretty Rapstar 2' may be all about the rap, but a K-pop trainee at a top entertainment agency is using the opportunity to make a name for herself.

Moon Sua, a trainee under YG Entertainment, is currently appearing in the second season of Mnet's 'Unpretty Rapstar' and has brought up her connection to the agency several times. After several episodes, YG Entertainment stepped in to clarify that the agency's backing has not resulted in any favoritism.

YG Entertainment's clarification countered the idea that the company's trainee would be favored by the 'Unpretty Rapstar 2,' which had been tossed around in online discussion forums upon the announcement of this season's line-up of competitors.

"Moon Sua won't be debuting soon," a YG Entertainment rep told the Korean media outlet OSEN. "She can't be compared to [iKON's] B.I and Bobby or to [WINNER's] Song Min Ho, who made appearances on the show after debuting. Moon Sua is just a trainee who may or may not debut as a YG artist based solely upon how much effort she puts in."

YG Entertainment's rep also clarified that, while she is a trainee at the agency, YG isn't necessarily "in a circumstance to support or give her strength."

"Sua is fully aware of this," said YG. "That is why she is giving her all to the program."

Sua was born in 1999, and became a YG Entertainment trainee in 2010.

Throughout the course of "Unpretty Rapstar 2," Sua has competed against 11 other female Korean rappers. Three of the contestants- Gilme of Clover, Ahn Soo Min, and Ash-B- had been eliminated from the competition prior to Oct. 14.

Along with Sua, there is only one other trainee on the show. EXY, a trainee under Starship Entertainment, who joined the show in its sixth episode.

"Unpretty Rapstar 2" is the second season of Mnet's popular competition show that pits female rappers against one another. It airs every week on Sunday.

we should've suggested 'excessive mediaplay' and 'shut up yg' tags in that tag request post tbh but at least it makes a change from him waxing lyrical about his boy groups

Omg she was born in '99??! Why are they making someone so young compete on a show like this?

as a diehard 2ne1 fan i totally relate, but i just can't put any faith in YG... he keeps promising that the female artists will come out with something and yet we keep seeing him pour all of his resources and support into the male ones

she was never part of the new "girls generation" group.

why are yg trainees so mediocre tbh. i think he might let her go if she does badly like he did with jang hanna. which would honestly be cruel bc sua's way too young to be competing with seasoned performers, i dont even blame her for how bad she is (tho i still think she shouldve been eliminated and not gilme)

Was Jang Hanna officially let go? :-O

oh i misremembered. shes actually still there i guess, in the basement, just not part of the upcoming girl group(s). still, i think she'll dip out of the company like some of the other pink punk girls already did

Honestly YG was nuts for sending such a young kid into this show, but stil if YG gets rid of her after the show I can't really blame him as her voice just isn't made for rapping though it may get slightly less squeaky when she's a bit older.

guuurl run... get to an agency that actually gives a shit about their female artists. YG's too busy tending to his pepper garden.

for real. idk why he even signs women when he seems to have no faith in them (his attitude towards CL's solos, american advancement etc)

Which is sad, bc I'm almost certain YG has passed up on so many talented female performers of all kinds, in favour of some beyond mediocre male ~hep hap rapper~… grrr that annoys me to no flippin' end.

not surprised by yg now. she should have been more like jidam- humble.

honestly, getting dropped from yg would be a secret blessing. the show has given her enough of a profile to be able to join another company and possibly debut sooner rather than later, and she might learn to be less of a tryhard when she raps elsewhere.so long as she leaves right away and isn't a dick on social media, she should be fine.

i feel bad for her all she has is that shes a YG kid like she isnt that good but shes good enough to be like.... a YG kid and now that she isnt getting heat the way Bobby did hes acting like he doesnt know? they thought she would blow up and she didnt but you cant just not bet on her once u started out like she was something. how could they not know it would be humiliating for her on this show

i thought the yg rep was referring to sua's performance in the trainee program (does yg do the same kind of assessments that sm does with its trainees?) rather than her performance on UR

dang i like sua though so i hope she'll continuing to work on her rapping. idk if yg is gonna do anything for her though.

and there's another girl joining the show? well okay.

I dunno why anyone is acting like they feel bad for Sua in this post. If YG had come out dick riding her everyone would have talked shit about YG media play and how she doesn't belong on the show, and she's only going to get anywhere because now YG is backing her publicly.

He's damned if he does, damned if he doesn't, and his statement makes perfect sense. It's VERY clear there is no real plan for any girl group to debut you, and if it does it'll be that group with Jennie Kim that Sua is not rumored to be on. To say she needs to show out and put in a lot of effort as a trainee, (even if he means on this show, but I believe the statement is supposed to be meant in general) is imo totally valid. I agree that YG clearly doesn't care much about his female artists and prefers to make money by selling to the large 12-16 year old girl market and Sua might be better off on another label, but she also would be gambling away guaranteed huge success by leaving YG. It's the reason that everyone would love to go to SM or YG regardless of the shitty contracts. shitty treatment and the shitty potential wait on debut. Even a mediocre debut will net you incredible success on either of those two labels.

He speaks the truth, though. He's not going to debut some mediocre fail who can't even get pass something like this, he'd be dumb as a business man. As much as he plays up the "family" part, at the end of the day it's all business and money. He's cold as hell to anyone who don't produce/write their own songs, basically. He's still a sexist pig, but in this situation, it's not about her gender.
