SM is a hit or miss, The Boys design is horrible but the stuff for f(x) are great, Shinee's are good too. I've read that while YG's look pretty, it's not practical? Like rusting in one of the album or its so sharp you can use it as a knife. seungri's album material also collects dust very easily

in general i adore min hee jin's work. she doesn't do every single release but when she does it's pretty much always creative and very interesting and actually makes you want to buy physical album. pink tape is everything.
but sm's packaging tends to be quite bland for my taste. like i own rv's mini album and it's just... booklet with teaser pics released by sm before. the red wasn't any better tbh.
meanwhile yg's albums are pretty much always on point. look at taeyang's album. there was so much work done and even if it may seen quite simple, once you look closely and see all those holograms and little details... damn. also winner's limited edition album is probably the best album for me in genral. it's fucking huge and has so much in it. both visually and substantially.
same for epik high's shoebox actually. ygent always adds some kind of extras that make you want to buy an album. i mean who else adds a very special second cd with commentary for each track by members or lyric book with both korean lyrics and english translation. but then i remember 2ne1's album and everything about it was just awful - a cd in plastic case with a few pics. what's the point.
this actually reminded me of b1a4's albums. i don't know who does them regulary (well judging by that controversy it was someone who worked with sm too) but solo day was beautiful and very well put together. also members had special diaries in booklet, commentary and other things.

Crush's design was so disappointing, it's the only YG album that I own that I don't love.

And IA with Winner, it's just so damn pretty, it's the only album i regularly take out and flip through

I think they really skimped on making Crush an album worth buying, but I do have a weakness for the cover image, I think it's just really clever how it has all the playing card signs hidden in it. It's really subtle.

Min Hee Jin/SME are in a league of their own, but YGE/Jang Sung Eun do great work within their branding limitations.
For example: AKMU's album was really well designed, but if it had been a SME there wouldn't have been only 1 pop-up picture.

In general kpop albums are visual masterpieces. I still remember the hype over B2st's Mastermind album design.

I adored the Hoot concept! Some of the hair was tragic, but the styling was really cool, I thought… specially with the 3 groups of 3 RIP OT9 😭 in the different rooms with different themes. That was well thought out, & visually very appealing, IMO.
