X Sports News: GOT7, OUR TIME STARTS NOW

What does the year 2015 mean to the group GOT7? After their debut in 2014 the members are collecting the fruits of their labor this year. Even though it took longer than some, their hard work was not for nothing.
The new mini album ‘MAD’ achieved #1 on the Hanteo Weekly Chart, Billboard World Album Chart, Gaon Weibo Chart, YinYueTai V-Chart. In addition, on 10/6, they won 1st place on SBS MTV 'The Show’, 21 months since debut. They of course placed #1 on the Japanese Oricon Chart.
GOT7 met with X Sports News on 10/8 in their waiting room for Mnet ’M!Countdown’ to talk about their first win, and also their thoughts about their concept and future prospects.

◆ Congratulations on your first win.
(All) Thank you so much.

◆ How you felt being nominated to win.
(Mark) I was so happy.
(Yugyeom) I couldn’t stop smiling.
(BamBam) I couldn’t tell what I was feeling, if I was happy. It was the first time I’ve ever felt like that. It was such a mental breakdown. I was happy but I didn’t know what to do.

◆ If you feel directionless after achieving a long time goal.
(Jr.) We were too happy to feel directionless.
(BamBam) It wasn’t even that. I still don’t know how I feel.
(Jackson) I just can’t believe that we won.
(Yugyeom) I couldn’t stop smiling. It was ridiculous.
(Jr.) Afterwards, we all gathered and decided, 'Let’s work even harder. This is only the beginning and we will work harder’.

◆ Lots of friends and family must have contacted you.
(Yugyeom) There were a lot of SNS messages congratulating us.
(BamBam) My family in Thailand all sent messages saying, 'Congratulations. You worked hard’. That was pretty much all they said, in addition to a lot of stickers of a duck setting off fireworks. And I messaged back saying thank you, and that was that.
(Youngjae) The duck setting off fireworks.

◆ You also placed #1 on the Japanese Oricon Chart.
(Yugyeom) This was our first time getting to 1st in Japan. We were so thankful.
(Mark) We also placed 1st on Billboard World Album Chart.

◆ Your concept has completely changed, if it will stay like this.
(Jr.) I think that’s something that will be decided for our next comeback, we’re always looking to see what kind of image and style fits us best.
(BamBam) And we have to look at the trends then.
(Jr.) But we have a lot of promotion time left for this album so we’re trying to focus on what’s happening now. We’re planning to promote for a longer time. At least another month.
(JB) I think our concept will be different depending on the album. It’ll get boring if we do the same thing over and over again. Rather than picking a concept and sticking to it, we want to release good music depending on what’s happening around us.
(Yugyeom) GOT7 has shown different images so far. Because we’re able to take on such different concepts, we want to show that there isn’t an image that we can’t adopt.

◆ If you compare to the 'Boyfriend’ concept?
(Mark) This is better.
(Yugyeom) Even before debut, the dances, facial expressions that we practiced and the music we listened to regularly were more of this feel. We practiced a lot of dark concepts.
(Jr. So compared to last promotions, I was able to contribute more. I helped Yugyeom choreograph the leg part of the choreography.
(Yugyeom) Jr. contributed a lot. JYP PD suggested we choreograph a dance as an homage to Michael Jackson, and afterwards the choreographer and I made the dance. Usually Jr. or a choreographer makes the dance and the members discuss and make changes to it after learning and practicing it.

◆ If it was stressful having a comeback after only a month.
(Yugyeom) The time was definitely a stress but once choreographing started, the dance just made itself. Our choreographer was probably on the verge of the mental breakdown because of the time constraints though.
(Youngjae) We spent a lot of time refining the choreography.
(Yugyeom) We worked really hard practicing together.

◆ It took 21 months to win #1 on a music show. If there was pressure to win.
(Jackson) When we were preparing for 'If You Do’ that wasn’t really on our minds.
(Mark) Honestly when we were promoting 'Just right’ we thought about winning on a music show a lot. But this time the song is good and the choreography is good so we didn’t think about winning, we just worked hard to prepare.
(Jackson) It didn’t matter to us if we won or not.
(Mark) That’s how much we like the song and concept.

◆ But wasn’t it nice winning?
(All) Yes, it was really nice.

◆ It’s better to become successful slow and steady.
(Yugyeom) That’s right. We’re not giving up until we really make it big.

◆ Your next goal?
(JB) Just because we won 1st place doesn’t mean we’ve achieved everything. We’ve only won 1st place once. One day we want to win 1st place on all the music shows, and stay at the top of the charts for a couple weeks. That’s our next goal.

◆ Anything you want to say.
(JB) Our 1st place win is due to the staff and fans who tirelessly work with us. We are so thankful to all those people. We consider this only the beginning and we want to keep working hard until the end of promotions.
(Yugyeom) We always want to thank our fans again.

◆ Off topic, but why did Jackson write 'WANG’ on his body with a magic marker on 'Cool Kiz On The Block’?
(Jackson) Ah, it really wouldn’t come off.
(Yugyeom) He would shower and it would still stay.
(Jackson) Last time I was on the show I was still fit enough to take off my shirt. But I kept on gaining weight and then I was slated to participate in 'Cool Kiz On The Block’. I saw myself in the mirror and thought to myself, 'I can’t go out like this’ so I decided to draw on muscles. At first I used a normal pen but there was a magic marker right there so I used that to draw. I thought it looked pretty good during filming but even after filming it wouldn’t wash off. I was like, 'Why isn’t this coming off?’
(Mark) It went on for days.

Teenage boys at the peak of their spring days:

"OUR COHABITATION IS UPROARIOUS EVERYDAY!"

Sharing the same profession, sharing the same private life too. When asked about the cohabitation shared between the 7 teenage boys, their seemingly pleasant and full of fun days of living together with music and laughter despite boisterous uproars everyday was so well told.

From the reason why the living room where the boys often gather is always glittering, to the story of how the other boys keep meddling with solo-room loner Junior (laughs). The truth about their cohabitation will now be revealed!

"THIS IS WHAT WE PROUD OF OUR ROOM!"

JB: We can do well in keeping things tidy and in order. I'm a person with a very methodical living style, that's why I hate seeing little things like earphones or cellphones being scattered around the room very much. Therefore I always put them neatly in order, sometimes I even alternate their arrangement for a fresh view.

Mark: We have no particular thing to be proud of (laughs). Hmmm... (thinking hard), only our room has curtains so whenever we want to procrastinate in bed we can just create a shade by pulling the curtain. That's the privilege of our room (laughs).

Jackson: My bed is really soft and fluffy, it feels very good sleeping on it. It's a magic bed that can send me straight to dreamland right away as soon as I lie on it. Perhaps it's because all the sheets and pillows on my bed have my face printed on them that its magic works so well on me (laughs).

Junior: I'm the only one that owns a single room, so being able to spend tranquil time alone in it after a day of hard work is what I can be proud of. There I can read some books, listen to music or just reflect on the passed day.

Youngjae: There're a lot of lego blocks and toys in our room! I especially take pride in my "Avengers series" lego set. It's super adorable so I want to display the whole in our room but since the space is so small, just a mistake by one second can lead to the a falling line of domino and that would be a pain in the neck for us (laughs).

BamBam: My pride is the collection of clothes and shoes. Among them I especially take high pride in my shoes collection, which has now already reached 16 pairs. I really love the type of leather boots with pointed toes.

Yugyeom: There are two mirror balls in our room. At night we just set them up at the darkest tone and leave them revolving slowly at the foot of our beds. They create a super fantastic view in our room with a very pleasant feeling to have a calm sleep, that's why lighting them up every night has become our habit.

while chatting and playing games together!

JB: Among us who share our daily life together, the ones with longest history of cohabitation are me and Junior, almost 7 years perhaps? Because we were the firstcomers to our company.

Jackson: Every double room has a bunk bed placed inside, but our rooms are too small that there is even no vacant space to sit down, and also too hot, that's why besides sleeping time everyone always gathers in the living room (laughs).

BamBam: There're times we just let the music played in the background while chatting together, some other times we also play games. But Junior hyung who has a whole single room for himself is actually the one sticks to the living room most (laughs). He's always monopolizing the TV in the living room to watch movies on his own alone.

Jackson: Even though he even has an exclusive bathroom inside his own room, I can never understand why he only uses the bathroom next to living room to take shower (laughs).

Junior: It's because the shower in my room was broken (laughs). But it's fixed now.

Youngjae: The living room and kitchen used by everyone are always perfectly cleaned up by JB hyung, that's why they always look so tidy and neat.

JB: I just use my free time to tidy things up sometimes. But toward each member's room, I absolutely don't touch them.

Junior: Because bedroom is a place where our individuality is showed right?

BamBam: JB hyung and Youngjae hyung's shared room is a little dark and exudes a manly vibe, while Mark hyung and Jackson hyung's room is totally in chaos and disorder, by which I mean their room is manly too (laughs).

Mark: It's because there're too many clothes that it's impossible for us to put all of them away. Besides, in my room there is also a very cute puppy of Maltese bread called "Coco".

BamBam: I and Yugyeom's room is the largest yet it doesn't load much things so we can feel like it's quite spacious.

Mark: Everytime BamBam buys new clothes, he will give away all the old clothes he has had until then to the others.

Yugyeom: But the amount of BamBam's shoes has begun to increase dramatically recently, so those extra spaces now all became occupied.

Mark: Come to think of it, we also had to borrow BamBam's room to use.

Jackson: That's right! Since we’re the international line, we have to store all our clothes inside the dorm, so the space used for them keep getting more cramped.

Yugyeom: Certainly! I have loads of clothes for myself too, but at least I can leave half of them at my real home.

BamBam: But I'm also international line!

Yugyeom: Everyone always has trouble sorting their clothes in the dorm, but Junior hyung is the only one has a whole room for himself so sometimes he even uses hangers to dry his socks. That type of people, I have never seen before!

Mark: The most unfair thing is, the closet in Junior's room is also 2 times bigger!

Junior: The reason is my room was originally made as a garment storage room, therefore there is a big closet equipped in that room (laughs).

Jackson: That's why we told you didn't we? He's lucky to get a closet too large that he can even hang his socks on the hangers. Isn't it amazing? (laughs).

Junior: I told you I don't hang them like that (laughs).

Yugyeom: Junior hyung's room and our room are separated by only a glass wall, so we can grasp each other's state easily just by looking over the glass. However, Junior hyung is the type that doesn't want to get disturbed when he confines himself in his own room, so as I and BamBam kept dancing noisily or making a super bustling merry directing to his room, he finally got angry at us (laughs).

Jackson: Normally Junior is the type that doesn't get angry at all. Wasn't what you did just like a strong stimulus to trigger the wrath in him?

BamBam: No, it's just like he was so done with us so the only thing he could do is to crack a smile.

Junior: You guys were super noisy at that time it's annoying (laughs).

BamBam: From now on too let's live peacefully together okay? (laughs).

Wow, good job compiling everything, OP! This must've taken you a long time. ^^

Their interviews are always so fun and insightful. I only skimmed through since I read most of this on twitter already so idk if it's included, but I loved it when they were asked if they were girls who would be their ideal type in 2pm? And no one wanted to answer so Jackson was like, what if we were mosquitoes—whose blood out of 2pm would we want to taste? XD
