I have no idea what's supposed to be happening in that picture nor what a [chat-shire] is. But I'm hyped. (why isn't this a full length album??? It's been like 2+ years already).
i read it's supposed to be like: "chat" is the french word for cat, and she's apparently supposed to be the cheshire cat? i'm gonna take a wild guess and say that maybe they changed "chat" to "chet" because they're were trying to be all fancy and hipster and have the word imply cheshire cat without actually having to say it / totally giving it away, lmao.
besides the technical meaning of shire predating the hobbit i also think wonderland is technically beneath oxfordshire (too lazy to confirm via google). so honestly, this probably has absolutely nothing to do with tolkien and probably everything to do with alice's adventures in wonderland. they probably couldn't legally use the name "wonderland", hence "chat-shire". but it's kpop, so who really knows about these concepts anyway?
Honestly, I didn't know alice was in oxfordshire. But shire is a word to mean 'county'. Alice lived in Oxford county. The hobbit use the word 'The Shire' as a name where the hobbits lived, and there are Hobbitons and Bag End in The Shire, and it's largely removed from the rest of Middle Earth. When I see Shire, I equate it with The Hobbit and probably a lot of people do since it was pointed out more than in Alice. However, I wondered how popular The Hobbit is in SK (seemed like a niche children lit in the western world before the movies), because Alice is universally known, so it's more pointing to Alice.
They can use the word wonderland, because that's in public domain,same goes to cheshire.
Yeah, that's what I meant by the technical meaning of shire that predates the Hobbit. That's why there are many counties in the UK that end with the word "shire". I think The Hobbit and LOTR was a thing in SK, but it seems like all the clues are pointing towards Alice unless they try to fuse the two which would be....weird? IU seems to be consistent with her references (thinking about Modern Times), so I doubt they'll be any fusion.
Oh, and I see about Wonderland. Probably being cautious or trying to put their own spin to it, tbh.
