"Wonder Girls were the guests today and there was a scene where SNSD's album was stepped on and set on fire (the Wonder Girls did not do it, the SNL crew did)"

1. [+169, -12] If SNSD was on SNL and their episode had a scene where the Wonder Girls' album was trampled on and set on fire = all female community sites would start a rite. The top 4 search rankings on Daum cafes would all be about this on top of bringing up old SNSD controversies. People would blame SNSD saying "they probably saw the script and should've been able to reject it considering their seniority but the fact that they OK'd it means they agreed with it". Naver's real time search would be 'Soshi burns WG album', 'Soshi's true colors', etc. Sones defending them saying it's not Soshi's fault but the producers would get downvoted. 8 out of 10 of the top 10 posts on Pann would be hateful things about Soshi.

2. [+127, -5] WG went to America in June of 2009 while SNSD released 'Gee' in January of 2009 but the scriptwriter of the episode made it sound like WG would be the one top if they didn't go to America... (not that I'm arguing that SNSD is). SNSD was already preparing an album in 2008 that was scrapped for copyright reasons and had to resort to 'Gee'... Anyway, what fan would be happy to see their artist's face being set on fire like that on TV?... SNL producers need to apologize.

3. [+116, -9] I think this should be brought to the viewer message boards or even to the broadcast associations so that SNL gets fined.

4. [+49, -3] They crossed the line by far. Those albums are a result of SNSD's hard work and they're precious material to fans and the members. How can you set it on fire just for fun??? I'm not hating on WG, I'm calling SNL crazy for going through with this. The overall episode made it sound as if Soshi was only able to get popular because WG left for America but please keep in mind that Gee was released in January while WG left for America in June of 2009. ... After the broadcast, WG fans are actually blaming SNSD fans for overreacting to it but would WG fans be happy if their own albums and member pictures were set on fire like that??? All just for fun?? Stomp on it and ste it on fire??

5. [+43, -0] People have every right to be upset. I mean, they took pictures of people who are still alive today and not only stomped on them but set them on fire. That's way crossing the line. How can you do that to people who are still alive today? Furthermore, SNL's episode made it sound as if Soshi's entire career benefited off of WG leaving and made them sound as if they never had to work or rehearse for anything they achieved.

6. [+39, -0] Sones are saints sometimes ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ other fandoms are telling them they're overreacting. People seem to be way stricter when it comes to SNSD and Sones.

7. [+39, -0] I'm a Sone and I bet SNL did this because they can't get SNSD as guests;;; Every time WG had a skit, it was all about putting SNSD down.

8. [+36, -0] SNL's message board is abuzz right now with this, calling them out for accusing SNSD of riding on WG's fame, setting their albums on fire, etc.

9. [+30, -0] Crazy... SNL just doesn't care anymore

10. [+29, -1] Wow... to put it into perspective, imagine if SNL stepped on your oppa's pictures and set it on fire... do you get our anger now?

and b4 people say sones are overreating, any fandom would be pissed if this happened to them. Also, setting photos on fire is normally for the dead, so yeah its offensive in asian cultures.

1. [+7,116, -2,074] Why is this even a big deal for people to be making such a fuss over ㅡㅡ

2. [+6,794, -1,971] It's just a variety, laugh it off

3. [+5,370, -1,890] Not even a big deal..;;

4. [+5,126, -1,847] Oh come on, this is nothing worth causing a fuss over;;

5. [+4,009, -2,586] Of course fans are upset. Just because they're celebrities doesn't mean you can just take their pictures and set it on fire without permission. Are the best replies serious about laughing this off as a variety? How will you feel if your own picture was set on fire like that?

6. [+1,250, -346] No matter what, setting fire to someone's picture, someone who's alive, is wrong..

7. [+1,263, -363] How can you laugh this off as a variety when their album was stomped on and their pictures were set on fire ㅋㅋㅋ would you be happy if your favorite stars were treated like this?

8. [+1,135, -269] I think their fans have every right to be upset..

9. [+1,173, -326] They honestly took things too far

10. [+1,130, -347] Not only the fire but they also made Soshi a joke by talking about Soshi being popular only because WG left for America... when in fact 'Gee' was released in January and WG left in July. They need to apologize properly to SNSD... and don't turn this into another gag.

Since it's from SNL and they were like "rival groups"... I'm not offended, but I can see why people are freaking out.
IDK, maybe if they used some crappy printed pics instead of official merch it would be less awkward.

I think its hilarious, I wish they would just own what they did and tell people to suck it up.

It's not like they set fire to a picture of the leader of the country or something 10000000 times more important.

eh idt it's that bad imo, it's snl they always make fun of people and wg and snsd are good friends so I'm sure this wasn't done out of malice but I can see how this would irritate some

That's rude.
And the so called rivalry is so old, the girls already saif it makes them unconfortable, can SNL moves on?
Gee/Genie was such a wonderful combo in such a short time, SNSD would have hit jackpot nevertheless. Both groups would have been on top if WG stayed after that.
I wonder which direction WG would have go to, sound-wise, without the US. We can say anything, but it seems to have brought them a lot personnally. I would think on these terms rather than SNSD/WG rivalry

From: [identity profile] lirevous.livejournal.com
I'm a fan of both SNSD and WG. I don't understand why SNL had to do this. If it's for comedy, let's not forget that comedy is like a double edged sword; we might laugh at the things they do but it also makes us think of what makes it funny. And to be honest, burning albums isn't really funny...

"they said they understand the singers/fans getting upset with burning the photos.. &that they initially were not intending to upset anyone.."

r u serious, snl? any fan would get upset if their idol's pictures gets burned like an offering to the dead.

I hope soshi will never guest on their shit show after this mess.

that must be awkward for wg girls. and imo, with usual promotion, no song has ever beat the popularity of gee

Considering that the writers for SNL are actually Korean they knew exactly what they were doing, they know what is 'offensive in asian culture' which seems to be everyone's pearl clutching reaction to a satirical comedy show.

From: [identity profile] winegums.livejournal.com
them being Korean and knowing it's offensive doesn't negate the offence tho, if anything it makes it worse.

If it's caused widespread offence, then maybe they're failing at being funny which was the supposed intention.

this is not about WESTERENERS it's culturally offensive in asia and you're basically wishing death on 8 women for satire??? and we all know westerners don't care for cultural respect anyways so
