K-pop girl band Brown Eyed Girls are set to release a repackaged album later this month, according to their agency on Tuesday.
The album "Sound G: Repackage" will contain their title song "Sign", ballad "Drunk in Sleep" and a remix version of the group's recent chart topper "Abracadabra", said Nega-Network in a press release.
"Sign" was written by lyricist Kim Yi-na and songwriter Lee Min-soo, who also penned the group's hit song "Abracadabra" and "L.O.V.E."
"Sleep", a slow-tempo ballad written by Go Hyun-gi, also known as G.Gorilla, contains monologues by each of the members.
The remix track of "Abracadabra" will be sung in two different versions.
The four-member girl band are made up of leader Jea, rapper Miryo and vocals Narsha and Gain. They debuted in 2006 with album "Your Story".

TBH I wish Korea stopped with this repackage stuff and released new songs as new albums or as EPs or even as singles.

Date: 2009-10-13 02:01 pm (UTC)It's an easier way to make money sadly. You don't have to hire new songwriters, composers, or use any equipment. You just remix, reedited and ship it out to the fans who you know are going to buy it.

Date: 2009-10-13 03:53 pm (UTC)while yes, artistes in mainstream korea pop music repackage their albums, if you actually follow different korean genres such as rock - whether indie rock or alternative rock, you'll find that artistes like seo taiji, nell, trax don't do stuff like that. artistes in the ballad genre, i.e., jo sungmo, don't do it too.
a few artistes in western countries repackage albums as well.
besides, releasing a new album would normally/most of the time mean a total change in style and concept. it'll actually be pretty dumb to do that just for like... one or two new songs, imho. artistes aren't superhumans.
plus i don't see what's the big deal about repackaged albums anyway. you either want to buy it or you don't, and most people just download it off the net anyway. the cost of the single would probably be really little. companies won't stand to gain from it at all, due to production and printing costs.

Date: 2009-10-13 04:19 pm (UTC)Sometimes I just feel it's a bit unfair to keep releasing repackaged albums. This is why, as a casual listener, I try to wait before buying an album of an artist who is prone to this practice.
