Girl band 2NE1's contract with YG Entertainment will end next year. Meanwhile company president Yang Hyun-suk will focus on CL's debut in the United States. Yang and 2NE1's members will then decide whether to extend their contract, he told a press conference after boy group ICON's debut performance at Olympic Park in Songpa-gu, Seoul, Saturday. CL has been preparing to release an album in the U.S. this fall, but Yang did not disclose the details. The singer made her presence felt globally when she appeared on a Skrillex track, "Dirty Vibe," last year, and released the song "Doctor Pepper" in May this year. They did awsome things post it but this is the point were things started to get rotten aka the times when YHS began the operation cryptonim new gen with coming of Lee Hi and all people that followed bc YG is shit in multitasking.
Like I know there were many diff reasons also for it but his older artists like 1TYM, Jinusean, Wheesung who left, Gummy being put on sideway - almost everybody was done/left before BB's debut, like guy actually had no experiance with managing a lot of idols acts at the same time and to 2ne1's time it was ok bc just 2 groups, Se7en barely there etc. but then the lineup expanded and for last 2 years it's like closterfuck of decisions.

I hate making assumptions and writing fiction based on social media, but there seems to be this popular thought and regarded as true story, that Minzy dislikes the other members. And people think her actions have been petty (because we live in an age where a like or a follow is so representative).
But whether this theory is true or not, I think she has a right to feeling the way she does. I mean she trained longer than her career is lasting her, the company has given her close to 0 opportunity to work with, the state of their group is based around one members success or failure (and I'm guessing if CL succeeds, 2ne1 will probably disband), and on top of that they were just reaching a height in their career.
While I don't doubt that the rest of 2NE1 have any malice against CL and genuinely may wish her luck, I do think that it is natural to have some ill-feelings knowing that scooter made that call and asked only for CL while the rest wait on the side lines waiting for results. Good on this being an opportunity for Dara to explore acting since that's hard to do while promoting, but what about the other two who never had acting on their radar?

Sorry for this long reply, but I also had hope 2ne1 may still be going somewhere, and my pessimism is full blown after recent events.

Minzy is so, so justified in feeling upset/overlooked. Even when they were active, she was always the least promoted (e.g. she's the only one who doesn't have a solo song, rarely had any activities) despite being the most talented (imo). And now, she's only 21 and her group is pretty much washed up. Not even mentioning all the sacrifices she made debuting at 15, giving up the normal school life and whatnot that the others got to have because they were older. If I were her I'd be pissed, not so much at the members but at YG and the situation as a whole.

tbh after all this cl vs. everyone else in the fandom and the press and the promotions and the infighting and yg's incessant media play i'm kind of hoping they're done. dara's got her acting, if she ditched and went to a new agency they'd probably get her a stable career but she's loyal so maybe she'll stay with yg. i don't think minzy's parents will encourage her to re-sign, she still does her dancing on the side but she's been doing appearances with her sister and she loves her religion so maybe she'll just go join minyoung and start putting out gospel albums. who knows, i'm sure her mum has plans even if minzy doesn't. god knows what bom is going to do. god knows where she even is. dara and minzy at least took pictures together at that wedding they were both at recently.
bigbang will start their army service soon so that means we'll get solo activities from them (which is how i prefer my bigbang) and then after that it'll be all about the new generation, which i'm simultaneously looking forward to and bitter about because yg is already neglecting half of them.

As much as I love these girls, there's a very small chance they'll all extend. CL and maybe Dara are the only two people I see extending their contract. Minzy will most likely peace out. As for Bom, I just hope she's doing well and that she's happy even though it pains me to think her career is over. She doesn't deserve all the shit k netizens give her anyway.

I don't understand how you had one of the biggest girl groups in Kpop and then proceeded to bench them. I get Bom had a scandal but if YG had put out a proper statement and continued to promote them like they've done with Big Bang's scandals then the public would have been over it by now. Keeping her in hiding is just giving the public the impression that she indeed did something worth ending her career. And no matter what the scandal, that's not the impression you want to give off.

Also, now that CL's eyeing the US in solo mode I don't see 2NE1 coming back together as group anymore.

all about 2ne1's current situation is melancholic. I had never believed they would be together forever, but at least a proper goodbye (like big bang is doing now).

and it's bizarre because we're talking about one of the most relevant kpop groups, esp for people who don't follow kpop closely. yg simply gave up on them and you can't even say that it's because the group didn't meet expectations or was a failure.

if cl fails on the us, there won't be a future for 2ne1, according to yg. if she succeeds, why would she go back to the group, right?!
