Han Seong-ho, founder and CEO of FNC Entertainment - which represents a handful of K-pop groups including FT Island, CNBLUE and AOA, and entertainers such as Yoo Jae-suk and Jung Hyung-don - said that while plastic surgery was prevalent among Korean celebrities, it was not a must.

“An artist does not necessarily have to receive plastic surgery or look perfect in order to gain popularity or possess that ‘star’ quality,” said Han at a forum for the globalization of K-pop at the Asia Music Network, which is taking place at Seoul’s Sangam-dong on Friday and Saturday. “An artist can appeal to the public with their individual charms.”

At the same time, Han added that whether or not an artist goes under the knife is a decision “to be made by a team of producers, factoring in each artist’s characteristics, target audience, and so on.”

sometimes i wonder how this guy is super good friends with jelpi's ceo when they seem so different. (or maybe it's just bec we see less of jelpi ceo, who knows what kind of nonsense he'll say if he got exposure)

It's bad enough that people feel the need to change their face to fit into society's standards, and now this guy is saying the decision isn't even left to the individual going through the procedures? smh

ok so? beauty is a way to get where u want to be.

im actually curious abt how companies deal w ps. do trainees/group members have to pay for it themselves or does the company covers it? do companies give them a choice/ultimatum? do they recommend what u should get? do companies have doctors on speed dial? i have so many more questions, i find this fascinating.

well apparently in SM they pay for it

i would assume most companies pay for it bc it's a form of investment

idk about music producers being in charge of that from an American standpoint. Maybe casting and talent agents or managers. Those people who are in charge of guiding a career or a look for a project. That doesn't take into account folks who talk shit just to get actors/models/singers to sleep with them for a role tho

im guessing they loan them the money, like how they have to pay back for all their lessons/food/board and everything else that fits under an 'investment'

FNC's artists are mostly PS free though
i'm not sure about their trainees but FNC always strive to find the best looking people to join their company

this isn't new information or shocking but this is the first time this guy has opened his mouth to say something that didn't make him sound like a dbag

Do they willingly accept the producers having control? Thats what i want to know. Because if so there is no issue. But if they are coerced into doing it well there is the issue.

trainees/idols pretty much sign their lives and bodies away to their company. this does not surprise me

I get the impression that if they don't have a no PS clause they're expected to do it.

I remember the blind item that turned out to be the beginning of Jessica's departure mentioned that she'd been put in for that drama (Wild Romance?) and someone made her get more PS because of it and she was upset and complaining because she hadn't wanted either the role or the PS to begin with and she didn't like the result. And then her "attitude" about it got her dropped from TTS.

I don't believe that all of SNSD8 hate or resent Jessica, but at the same time, kpop is a dog eat dog world and having someone's back means risking your own. Jessica had something to fall back on besides Soshi. Most of the others don't.
