Fans have recently taken the time to discuss the question of which agency 2NE1’s Dara truly belongs in.

Although achieving a high point of fame with 2NE1 under YG Entertainment, Dara has become the point of attention for netizens to discuss.

Netizens have come to the conclusion that the idol should not have debuted under YG Entertainment. They stated that her natural freshness and immortal beauty were hidden in the early 2NE1 days by the group’s flashy concepts and overdone makeup.

A look at her photos without makeup compared to with the heavy stage makeup reveal the astonishing contrast. With this in mind, the netizens selected SM Entertainment as her ideal agency. They hypothesized that Lee Soo Man would have taken care of her and helped adjust her nasal singing tone.

I actually agree. YG hasn't done anything for her and she's pretty much a prop in 2NE1. At least SM knows how to promote and get their actors work.

I think a lot of people here aren't seeing the main point here. Netizens are saying that Dara would've benefited from SM because SM would know how to promote her as an actress, not an idol. So people here saying she would've gotten minimal lines/visual only role if she was in SM are missing the point that SM would've never put her in an idol group to begin with.

Yeah, being in 2ne1/YG saved her partialy from "useless pretty" stigma but she payed the price by not expanding solo activities/acting. She's standing out in YG in beauty department but in SM she would have a lot more "competition". Like maybe she would be more visiable publicly but I feel like her image would downgrade

well she probably would be more popular in SM, but she's the one who wants to go to YG. also, YG did want to debut her as actress, but she begged him to debut her as singer instead. although he definitely could've given her more acting jobs.

Dara was my least favorite member of 2ne1 just because I felt like their concepts were so fake on her. Like she was going through the motions of being an idol but had nothing substantial to back it up. Most idols are like this but I guess I had higher expectations for 2ne1.

As a person though she always seemed sweet. I kinda agree that she always felt more suited to be with an agency that focused on looks over talent but that doesn't nevessarily mean she would've done better. She's a little older and SM isn't too great at taking care of their older artists. >_>

yg failed her tragically when it came to getting her solo gigs outside of 2NE1, especially when the group was at their prime. it's hilarious how it took 2NE1 dying for the agency to actually start doing their job. like her brother had managed to get more solo shoots in mags than she had till then in her entire career since he changed agencies, and it's not like mandara is more in demand than Dara is lmao. it all boils down to 2NE1 being yg's guinea pig when it came to marketing strategies, with the girls being held back in order to retain that ~exclusive/mysterious/whatever vibe, and that only changed recently when the company saw it was doing more harm than good. like ppl can say "but so and so got a solo and x/y yg artist is still in the basement you should be grateful!" all they want but when you put it against what other agencies are doing for their idols it's really obvious yg is doing the least. not that there aren't stans who will settle for scraps but ok. basically thank god they merged with k-plus and lmao @ them still not having released the OST songs for We Broke Up

Hmm, I think in the long run she's better at YG. She doesn't seem like the type at all to want others her to manage her look or whatever. Her tomboy personal style is a hint of that. Plus other little things, I've noticed. She can be who she wants at YG at least 80% of the time.

Anyway, I think it's good she is getting more acting gigs now. I think rom-coms are getting better and she excels in comedy, I believe she has a remake movie lined up...the web-drama trend is picking up over there. i can't see other explanation than that bc it's unbelievable how well they did in their first three years. dara doing cf with lee minho who was the hottest shit at the time, bom slaying everybody with her singles, album sales going well. it's frustrating bc even with 2ne1 doing so well they could be so much more and it wouldn't require pretty much any work at all.

how many years dara wanted to do dramas? i just can't believe that yg wouldn't be capable of getting her any role. and bom. is that really hard and expensive to release a digital single once in a while? and the worst ridding of 2ne1 tv, which was the thing that got them so many fans.

If she had debuted in SMe, she would have been as flat, breathy and nasal as the rest of SNSD's sub-vocals, which is what she already is, cause no matter the agency, she would get one or two lines. That's not really the key solution for improvement.

Aww you think it's a shame she's "un-pretty" because of 2ne1's concepts? Well she clearly is not comfortable with overly feminine clothes, and likes their weird style, so let the girl choose for herself what is better for her. People will bring blow torch if anybody even suggest Amber "should" wear skirts or feminine clothes, but since Dara does not fit your esthetical/fashion senses, we should totally not give a fuck that it makes her uncomfortable.

Honestly I dont find Dara pretty, something abt the distance between her eyes and nose throws me off but regardless YG wasted her potential. When 2ne1 debuted there were as many people flipping out over her as Yoona, who was already trendy.

And it's not even like pushing her to fit as "edgy" or as good as the rest of the 2ne1 members has gotten anywhere bc shes still awful at singing and dancing.

I honestly disagree, maybe they might have pushed her image more under SM, but I think it would be at the expense of a lot of what Dara wants personally.
I get the feeling that Dara doesn't like to be labed as just the "visual" and it has kind of been hinted at through her personality and determination to not be that "one member" (e.g. picking up an instrument, becoming some what of a pseudo-relations manager, her whole story of begging YG to be apart 2NE1).

Bit of an aside, but are the photos up there supposed to be those without make-up? Because I hate to burst Knetz' bubble, but except for maybe the first and the last, those are not "without make-up".
