JYJ Junsu to come back as solo in October, will he be seen on a music program?



There is interest focusing on whether group JYJ’s Junsu will appear on the 3 terrestrial broadcasters’ music programs, amid him making a comeback as a solo artist next month.

According to the business industry on September 14, Junsu will release his solo album in only 7 months after his 3rd album ‘FLOWER’ last March. In the album this time, there contains songs well-matched for autumn and winter, like ballads and dance songs filled with vocal colors unique to Junsu. He is planning on going on an Asia Tour –i.e. to Japan and more– after the album release.

In the business industry, they are paying attention at Junsu being able to appear on the 3 terrestrial broadcasters’ music-airing programs this time. Junsu was a member of TVXQ but is active together with Yuchun and Jaejoong as JYJ after they split from SM Entertainment in 2009 and shifted their affiliation to C-JeS Entertainment. However, Yuchun and Jaejoong, including Junsu, even have not made an appearance on the 3 terrestrial broadcast channels’ music programs after their split from TVXQ. JYJ’s terrestrial music program appearance is unique only to Junsu’s EBS ‘Space Empathy’ last April, and this is also an appearance achieved 6 years after his withdrawal from TVXQ.

In the business industry, it is reported that JYJ has not appeared on a music program since splitting from SM, and yet their legal battle has made an impact. They are artists who started a legal battle with and withdrew from the ‘pop culture power’ SM –that’s commonly known as the country’s biggest entertainment–. Because of that, they were left off of appearing on terrestrial music programs. We will point out that couldn’t be the only ones a burden on broadcasters themselves.

Last April Choi Min Hee, an Assemblywoman of the New Politics Alliance for Democracy, brought up an observation where she tried to solve JYJ’s implicit ‘appearance ban’ on music-airing programs by proposing the purported ‘JYJ Law’. The JYJ Law contains contents that prohibits actions and such by broadcasters in preventing an artist from appearing on music broadcasts for no reason.

Still, it is an uncertain situation whether there’s be a terrestrial music program appearance by Junsu. Whether he’ll make an appearance on a program will be due to a producer or someone else’s authority. Even if he is an applicable singer, he has to rise to the No.1 nomination of a music-ranking program, or they might not be able to fit him in a broadcast if he doesn’t climb up onto the performer list.



SM is drawing a line decisively about speculations in the public eye that any influences from SM toward JYJ –i.e. Junsu– having not made an appearance on a music program, did not happen. A representative from SM said, “We do not want SM and JYJ to be mentioned together”.

Meanwhile we tried contacting by phone calls and other ways several times but terrestrial music programs’ PDs’ stances about whether Junsu will make an appearance, were not heard.

I'm curious why you say that? (Not attacking you or anything, just curious).

Because for example, when Pann people (who are mostly little kids) barely post about TVXQ it is to reminisce TVXQ5 days from what I've seen in the translated comments/articles on kpopkfans. In those posts too there are a lot of people commenting things like 'I recently became a fan of TVXQ5 and wish they still existed' etc.
Also, even in the army people are calling Jaejoong 'TVXQ's Hero Jaejoong' or 'Hero Jaejoong' when he is just 'Kim Jaejoong' now, meaning the public still thinks of him as TVXQ.
Also, the rare moments when Jaejoong is mentioned on broadcast he is mentioned by the name 'Hero Jaejoong' which was his title in TVXQ5.
The reason I am focusing on people mostly from the public still calling him 'Hero Jaejoong' is because if some random non-fan didn't know him and heard the name 'Hero Jaejoong' and then googled it, it would mostly bring up results from the TVXQ5 days.

Of course, new fans of TVXQ would only know them as a duo though, but they would still know that TVXQ used to be five once upon a time.

Anyways, I am happy with JYJ so it doesn't really matter. I was just curious if it was actually fact the most only know them as a duo or if it was just an assumption.

Ah I see. I don't really follow tumblr, but I do understand that it is the 'new' major source for kpop fans. For music or idol fans in Korea I doubt that they don't know TVXQ used to be five once upon a time. But, honestly drama fans usually don't care about an actors musical career. For example, Lee Minho is a major drama star in Asia and he sometimes releases music too but most of that barely sells well. Drama fans only care about what dramas their bias is acting in.

I think the lack of presence of 'JYJ' in the media is the dumbest move on SME's part tbh. JYJ still have active careers but the public do not know JYJ thanks to SME. This means that that when the individual members of JYJ are seen by the public the first thing the public will think is 'DBSK' because they don't even know JYJ exist lol. By allowing JYJ to exist in the media is the way that SME can make people forget that they used to be a part of TVXQ lol.

SME is not letting go of JYJ therefore JYJ members will always remain stagnantly as a 'member of TVXQ' even if they have left the group. To allow JYJ and TVXQ to move on and have good healthy careers basically SME needs to let go. By not letting JYJ go SME is hindering TVXQ's career too, unless their only aim this whole time was to convert the remaining OT5 to OT2 for profit.
