Reason why Big Bang opted for no-broadcast for Dream Concert

Many fans were curious as to why group Big Bang decided to have their performances edited out from the broadcast of Dream Concert 2009.

Dream Concert 2009 took place on 10th October in Seoul World Cup Stadium, and Big Bang full team was there performing. But during the concert broadcast on 11th October at 3.3opm, their performances were edited out and not broadcasted. Fans were looking forward to seeing the whole team perform with DaeSung joining the team.

So what was the real reason for the no-broadcast?



It was explained that YG Entertainment has requested for the no-broadcast. Back in August when they signed the contract to perform at the concert, YG Entertainment had already requested for no-broadcast.

A Dream Concert staff said, “Every year, there will be entertainment companies who will request for no-broadcast. There is no problem to that.” And YG Entertainment also clarified, “Because it’s the participation in such concert that is an important thing, we did not put our mind for broadcast of the performances.”

They also added, “It is a rule in YG Entertainment for no-broadcast if it is not the official promotion period for Big Bang.”

But this was said to be ambiguous since Big Bang members went on broadcast show ‘Strong Heart’ during the chuseok week, and their performance as ‘Asian Song Festival’ in September was also aired. It was only for Dream Concert where there was no broadcast of their performance.

YG Entertainment then clarified, “Because it was DaeSung’s first performance after his car accident, and he couldn’t dance well – Big Bang was not at their normal or optimal condition. Because Big Bang could not show their best features, we decided that there will be no broadcast of their performance.”

Another group 2PM’s performances were also not broadcasted as their leader member JaeBum left the group about a month back due to his MySpace messages controversy.

I'm glad they didn't broadcast, if something were to happen then there would be videos of it and it would never die down 'oh remember that time when daesung etc. etc.'
Also, it would've put a lot more pressure on him if they were broadcast, and that's unfair on him.

It doesn't really make sense - 2NE1's performance was broadcast and they're not promoting anything, GD performed on his own, is promoting, and was not broadcast. Even if one gives credence to the excuse that YG was afraid something might have happened with Daesung not being in good enough shape (which it doesn't, because BB doesn't have strong dances and they performed one of the songs sitting down), fact remains that it seems more like a publicity stunt than a legitimate fear that they could screw up. They performed songs they know in their sleep and it wasn't the first time they performed as a group since GD took time off to do his solo debut. So what gives?

As disappointed as I am that it wasn't broadcast, it was probably a good thing that it wasn't broadcast, for Daesung's sake. He probably really wanted to perform with the other members at such a big event, for the fans. But since he isn't at his optimal condition, isn't it better that he doesn't get closeups and stuff aired on tv for haters to make fun of later? Just sayin'.

That was bullshit as some people already pointed out. That is a bad start, telling lies. How not to be suspicions?

Back then let assume it was after Dae’s accident, it was not clear if Dae would perform, that make sense. He could say he didn’t want to broadcasting without Daesung. Still make sense.

But that is not a good reason, since they already did it, in the Asian Song Festival.

As I remember they where going to perform as 4 until a few days before, as they did in the Asian Song Festiva which was aired.

Now, they tell us that it was a decision because “it was DaeSung’s first performance after his car accident, and he couldn’t dance well” … he decided to perform a few days before the concert, when the decision was already taken. Does it make sense?

To me, it makes sense. YG wants to control Big Bang's image. There was a lot of risk showing Daesung to the public before YG's official release of Daesung's return to entertainment. His appearance probably arose out of differences in wants between the talent and the management.

Also, it's my personal opinion that Dream Concert was SM town without JYP's agreement to the broadcasting. If I were YG? I wouldn't want my baby to be broadcasted singly against most of SM. And 2ne1 is different because of their latent success. Big Bang hasn't had an official release since... Remember? Yeah. I bet they're worried about that.
