According to various news reports, B1A4′s CNU has sustained a serious knee injury. The injury is serious enough to warrant surgery. However, this injury apparently happened right before releasing the group’s new album in August. Apparently, CNU didn’t want their comeback to be pushed back because of him and insisted on continuing with promotions.

According to a representative, CNU has been diagnosed with Chondromalacia Patellae (read about it here) and will be receiving surgery for it. The hospital has come to the conclusion that CNU should stop all promotions and should receive surgery as soon as possible.

As the oldest member of B1A4, CNU has been trying to promote to his fullest despite the company and members trying to make him rest, confirming CNU’s affection for B1A4.

Fans have already noticed a knee injury because he had a protection for it, but he didn’t make it obvious at all.

UPDATE: According to B1A4′s representatives, “CNU has to get surgery for his knee, the reason for his injury was because of the choreography. He plans to receive it after the concert. B1A4 has made a comeback after 1 year and 1 month, so he has this strong will to end promotions successfully. He is having treatments and focusing on his health a lot. CNU is currently talking with the doctor to decide the surgery date

I hope his surgery goes well and he gets time for his knee to heal.

This makes me suspicious? Maybe the perpetual mistreatment of idols has made me cynical, but the ignoring an injury to finish promotions reminds me of Gongchan's kidney problem and I hope that both cases really were the individuals' desire to continue and not their company coercing them in any way. If they're going to wait until after their concert CNU ought to be sitting on a stool the whole time...

i think its both? the company + idols themselves refusing to take a leave(?) but honestly just even thinking abt it just shows how shady this industry can be.

Even without direct coercion, I suspect the industry in general fosters this kind of "suck it up" attitude that drives idols to ignore injuries as long as they can. You see how much netizens praise idols for powering thru despite injury which is really kid of fucked-up. I also think it's no coincidence that the SM traitor who seems to garner the most sympathy (Luhan) was the most visibly unwell and also "stuck it out" through the tour bc heaven forbid you let down the fans. I feel like there's this general attitude that the show/the fans must be put above all else including personal health unless you literally can't perform anymore.

knee injuries can be really serious afaik and i wouldnt be surprised if many idols already suffer from chronic knee/back problems.

i hope the surgery is successful and he recovers well.. i also wish they would give him time to heal but.. eh.

I'm with everyone in that I hate that this kind of attitude of sucking it up for the fans is acceptable and even encouraged. Idols should be allowed to rest and heal without being made to feel guilty that they're letting people down. I wonder if he's pushing through with promotions because it was right when they were about to make a comeback as opposed to Baro's where they just scrapped the group's follow up promos. Either way, I hope he gets wheeled into surgery as soon as the concert ends and rests for as long as possible.

T_T I hope he makes a full recovery, knee problems are so tricky.

RME @ the agency saying they tried encouraging him to stop participating in promotions, though I doubt it's quite on the same level as the other bigger labels; at least he's able to get surgery for it. I do absolutely believe that the members are trying to convince him to stop, though.

it really worries me that hes gonna do the whole concert and then get the surgery.... they're going to the US again and i really don't understand how he's just going to do all those shows with his knee.... i dont doubt that he wanted to push through it but there was clearly a lot of pressure for him to from his company and from the members to since according to this the comeback was announced before his injury? and same with the tour.

i actually dont understand how he is still doing lives now? can someone explain this injury to me? how is he able to dance and everything... smh at him being extra with his dancing too like chill a bit shinwoo i know you're the dancer of the group but please chill.

i was feeling excited to watch AS4U with eng sub in the coming week but them i remember watching vid clip of them dancing in red heels to solo day. it was funny then cuz i didn't know he has knee injury but now i'm feeling bad for him...

i don't know how much truth it is to the official statement but i guess it could be a mixture of all those sentiments. company wants him to rest vs company can't risk losing profit, him should be resting and healing vs he feeling responsible to do well with the promotion. the most important thing is that he should get the surgery ASAP. and i think doing the concert should be the last stretch for him. i don't want to see him going to airport to finish the tour in crutches or wheelchair :(

"despite the company and the members trying to make him rest"

uh huh, ok, it's not like the company and basically the entire of kpop industry doesn't force this athlete's mentality of sucking up and powering through your injuries, because you have to be there for your fans and members. imo the company should force (well maybe 'force' isn't the correct word to use here - maybe make?) the idols to rest even the idols themselves don't want to because everyone needs someone else to be there to make sure that they don't injure themselves to the point of no recovery.

i hope he gets the treatment needed asap and gets enough time to rest and recover.

That bs story. As if CNU has the power to say no to promotions. As if any good company would hear of an injured employee and let them aggravate it. As if CNU could actually go against his company and MAKE them let him perform. Stuff like this angers me and I hope someone gets what's coming to them.

My bear :( call me naive but I kinda buy WM's statement re: members encouraging him to get treatment but he is the type of person to not let ppl down so I can see him feeling pressure to perform injured so that the others hard work is rewarded (since he does the least solo activities). However I can see WM probably encouraging him to perform while paying lip service to make him think performing was his idea.

He prob sustain it between Chess and the comeback, he worked so hard for it :( He def has athlete's mentality and pushed to, but smh@all of you who made assumptions on the company pressuring him to. It's not like they scrapped one of their previous promos for Baro and cut this one short for him right? They were so worried about people forgetting them, promoting for 4 weeks only is such a great strategy, right?

There's a week until the concert, I hope he gets some rest. The condition is a chronic one :(

My sweet bias, I wish he hadn't promoted with this injury. And I wish idols in general didn't feel like they have to soldier on through these kind of serious health problems :(

I hope his surgery goes well and he gets a nice long rest after.
