Netizens discuss whether angled jawlines are a beautiful feature with various photos of female celebrities accompanying.

Jawline and facial shape have been a hot topic of discussion amongst Korean women. Originally both men and women used to rave over the notorious V-line faces in women, leading to many cosmetic procedures to achieve such traits. But did the preferences for facial shape and jawline change over the years?
Originally titled “Women Look Elegant With Slightly Angled Jawline,” netizens discuss whether angled jawlines make women beautiful or not.

Here is the direct translation of the post and comments below.

Song Hye Kyo

Liu Yi Fei

Moon Chae Won

Nana

“!!!! Of course other features such as eyes nose and mouth are important too but assuming those features are above-average!!!!

“When I was younger, I only thought V-line faces were the only pretty type
“But as I get older, angled jawline seems more elegant and noble than sharp V-line faces..

“I am jealous because you can’t make these faces with plastic surgery”

[+107, -4] Angled jawlines can’t be the focus of women’s beauty looking at Kim Jin Soon and Park Gyung Lim because it may give a strong appeal to the face but… We are not talking about that… Their angled jawlines give a more elegant feel.. If I were to choose the top two, it would be Grace Kelly and Monica Bellucci… There is also Kate Middleton who can be compared to Moon Chae Won, Song Hye Kyo and Han Ga In of Korea… The generation before, they can be compared to Kim Hee Sun and Lee Young Ae?? They all have slim and pretty face shapes but their apparent jawline makes them more elegant… But Korea only prefers women with no jawline but women with good features above the jawline… They think that they look like dolls or something… Saying eyes are important for women….. But to be honest, eyes and nose are basic features but the bottom jawline must be pretty hahahaha T_T_T

[+104, -5] Regarding physiognomy, V-line faces do not get rich nor do they accomplish something big. A slightly angled jawline is more boutique-like.

[+89, -1] The slightly angled jawline that is pretty gives a unique appeal?? Yeah

I'm always confused when they talk about v-lines and stuff bc it's always hard to reconcile it with the western sort of...shape ideology? Like the oval/heart/diamond etc., so I never know if v-lines are exclusive to one shape bc to me these also all look like v-lines.

i really hate the way the first person looks in the 'after' pic. i can't explain why. it's like... unnatural? like their chin is way too sharp, even compared to the 2nd 'after' picture. i don't think they're ugly. i just really dislike the shape idk :/

v-lines make a v up to the ears, while angled jawlines (in my understanding) are bit v-shaped but they feature some sort of angle before the v reaches their ears?
angled jawline looks less heavy than the square one too, in square jaw chin is less prominent. v line can make one looks kinda... frail? also usually when people are getting their jaws done, their face fat gets more "squished", resulting in more youthful appearance as the fat is more noticeable.

I once researcjed face reading cause it's fascinating and I have this one friend who always sends me pics of the guys she likes so I can read their face... Some of that stuff is rather spot on? To me it's just a weird activity, I don't believe in it.
There are many ways to read from face, depending on what you focus on. Some readers focus on features like nose, lips etc while other interpret lines on your face. Like certain line somewhere indicates some kind of life experience in particular year of someone's life. One of my friends has this deep line on forhead that indicates something that happened in her 20s (dunno which year exactly, sorry) and she underwent major surgery then.
It's fascinating tbvh but in general it feels more like a hoax XD also ps doesn't change your "fate", I read that face readers in SK even refuse to read face after PS cause they can't say anything.

Henry was being a tool on Crime Scene once and used it as a joke, but ended up getting the criminal right. It's nuts.

Oh! My family's Chinese and in my upbringing sharp jaws is associated with bad things like having a temper, mean to others etc. A lot of villains are portrayed as V type faces...oval and round face shapes are supposed to bring you fortune. So I was surprised when I watched Asian pop culture and it was V faces everywhere lol

I never even thought about the v-line before I started being interested in k-ent. I naturally have a v-shaped jaw anyway so it's never mattered to me. I guess it's because of that that I actually prefer more angular, square-shaped jaws to V-shape. Nana's face shape is ideal to me because her jaw isn't very V-shaped but more square.
I also prefer males with a classic square jaw and that's why I think Kai and Chen are the best looking members in EXO.

same, I also like people with high or prominent cheek bones because I have a very soft looking face and in korea, they like soft looking faces because they don't like prominent cheekbones/angular faces

Yep same here I have soft looking features too with big cheeks and yep that's why I like faces that are opposite to mine haha.

me too, also hate protruding chins like kris' post-EXO pre-massive chinese fame chin lol

I love Kris now but it took me a long time to find him attractive because his face shape is the complete antithesis of what I usually find attractive. I like men with square jaw and a small but defined chin. Like Chen. But then I fell for Kris's goofy personality on Showtime and now I like his face a lot :))

i like guys with a soft jaw and soft chin closer to like...chanyeol? i'm not really a fan of strong facial features, unique yes but not too angular or protruding

ah we're opposites then but your preference is a bit closer to Korea's where they prefer softer features and that's why they find Baekhyun/ Chanyeol/ Xiumin so attractive

lol new ps trend? plant something around your jaw to make it looks more angled and elegant?

i find it amazing still how people categorize faces, i never see these v things or apple shaped and what not. part of me wishes i had eyes for this, other part of me is happy i don't.
all of the above look really pretty, my personal faves are moon chaewon and nana.

same, I still get confused even with eyelid folds and stuff
I'll be like that person has monolids and someone will say no, they have inner-double eyelids~
the bodylines are the ones I get confused with the most tho
I'll identify someone as an s-line and it turns out they're an x-line or something like that

I read part of a detailed post on features considered beautiful by Korean standards the other day and I feel like a worse person for knowing it (but I'm still going to link it http://chichibanban.blogspot.kr/2014/08/the-korean-standard-of-beautyunabridged.html?m=1)

I actually wonder if ppl not having an angle to their jaw is natural?? I always thought ppl with natural V lines still has a bit of angle to their jaws....

Also I think the V line look occurs more frequently in non-Asians, like a lot of western celebs like Kim k, Ariana grande, Beyoncé, K Stew etc all have v-shaped faces to me. But at any rate ppl in the west don't seem particularly preoccupied with jaw shape and there's a lot of stars with square jaws too... But I see Chinese netizens saying things like why does XX have a square jaw? Doesn't square jaw make XX look not pretty?
