Jeon Seungho, known as Shotslugger Ray, started street fashion photography in 2014. He currently publishes his photos in two Korean digital fashion magazines. He has also been featured for his own style on Hypebeast. It’s most surprising to learn that this talented photographer is a 17 year old highschool student that carries his hagwon textbooks in his bag along with his gear. Let's get to know Seungho!

To start off, please introduce yourself to our readers!
Hello! My name is Jeon Seungho and I am a street fashion photographer in Korea. I started taking pictures in Garosu-gil in March 2014. I upload my photos to my personal blog and I also contribute to Musinsa. On the weekdays, I am an ordinary highschool student!

You're a highschool student!? How did you get into street photography?
Up until middle school, I was a regular student who simply had a lot of interest in fashion. When I was a freshman, some of my friends and I hung out in Garosu-gil for my birthday and suddenly a street fashion photographer approached us to take a picture. After getting my picture taken, I just thought it would be fun to take the pictures myself. So for about a month, I started shooting in Garosu-gil every weekend. I enjoyed it a lot, so I continued to take street fashion pictures ever since!

What kind of people do you photograph?
Firstly, I choose someone with a unique style that isn’t too over the top. Second, when I see someone with a very attractive and good looking face I’ll ask to take their portrait as well. The styles that attract me the most are unique, street, and classic styles.

Can you tell us a little bit about where you shoot? Why do you chose to take photos there?
In a back alley off Garosu-gil, there’s a place with a white brick wall and great lighting. Since the background is white, the focus is fully on the model. So, when there’s a model I like or someone with a beautiful face, I enjoy taking my pictures there.

Tell us about some of your favorite shots!
Most of my favorite pictures were taken during the most recent Seoul Fashion Week! Here are my top 4:

The model, Seok Danbi, visited my blog and shared the photo by her own accord on her Instagram. I am very thankful that she did that!

The blurry one in the front is model Bae JungNam, and the one behind is Daniel Snoeks. I’m not quite sure why, but I consider this one of my best shots.

This was when Jang Kiyong was becoming very popular after he appeared on a tv series. I remember having a hard time taking his picture because of the fans crowding around him. Some photographers were tripping over because of that! I feel like this picture really shows his popularity.

I personally like fun pictures as well! These two guys are street photographers too. During Seoul Fashion Week they unintentionally wore the same Supreme cap with a Raf Simons shirt so I thought it was funny.

I love this type of photography and I would love to do something like this, because I really enjoy taking portraits and weird fashion. But I'm so shy that I could never ask a stranger if I can take a photo of them or their permission to use it afterwards. For now my friends and me have to be my models. At least my selfie game is getting really strong lol

Yes, with friends ends up being too staged and sometimes I feel more concerned to make them look good than to make an interesting photo. Now I don't have a job and I have been thinking for a time that I least should take some photos and try to convince some bars to put them in the walls to see if I sell some of them (is something kind of common where I live) to have some money. But my excessive shyness is not helping.

There ARE! I was too shy to go and talk to any when I was over there at events (omg the way they dress is on point it super intimidated me hahaha) but there is a definite female fashion photographer contingent. made in seoe (kim seoee) does some amazing work at fashion week :D

A couple of my other faves are (sorry I only know them by their street/sns handles): jhall street, iamaaronpark mad van, jdinkorea, 817street, real street. There's so much talent on the seoul scene right now :D :D

oh and alex finch for brit representation ;)

I was actually thinking of emailing you guys to write for you ahaha, I blog as it is and was thinking of doing a piece on LFW considering we get a lot of Korean fashion photographers/stylish korean kids attending. But yeah, keep up the great work :D
